Germany: How safe is it for women at Munich’s Oktoberfest?

Germany’s famous festival, Oktoberfest, attracts plenty of dirndl- and lederhosen-wearing merrymakers to Munich, Bavaria. This year, it runs from September 16 until October 3.

Yet unpleasant incidents can occur with millions of people gathering at the Wiesn, the area in Munich where the festival takes place, and beer flowing. The “Sichere Wiesn,” or “Safer Oktoberfest,” campaign supported by Munich’s city health department assists female visitors in cases of harassment. This year, the campaign has helped 143 women and girls who felt unsafe during the festival’s first week, including seven suspected cases of drink spiking.

These women sought help at Sichere Wiesn’s so-called Safe Space, located on the Oktoberfest grounds behind the Schottenhamel beer tent. It is open daily during the week.

Where Are the Palestinian Concessions for Peace?

During the past three decades, Israel has made countless concessions to the Palestinians as part of an effort to advance peace and coexistence. In 1993-95, Israel signed the Oslo Accords with the Palestinians, giving them full security and civilian control over large parts of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Thousands of PLO members stationed in different Arab countries were allowed to move to the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Israel released thousands of Palestinian security prisoners, including many who were involved in terrorist attacks against Israelis.

The woes of Justin Trudeau

“… Canada may be the worst country in the oecd when it comes to the disconnect between home prices and incomes,” says Mike Moffat, an economist who has briefed Mr Trudeau’s cabinet on the housing crisis. Canada has the lowest housing supply per person of any g7 country. Mr Moffat thinks a “wartime effort” is needed to build almost 5.8m homes over the next decade, more than double the rate achieved in any previous decade.

Migration is also hurting the prime minister. This year Canada’s population surpassed 40m people for the first time. Nearly all of the rise was caused by migration: Canada welcomed 432,000 newcomers in 2022, the largest number ever. Mr Trudeau wants to boost this number more. The government has a target of an additional 465,000 immigrants this year, increasing to half a million in 2025. Although most Canadians remain pro-migrant, they are less sure of Mr Trudeau’s plans, particularly in light of the housing crunch. Some 61% of those asked in a recent poll think the migrant target is too high.

Another person died on Thursday morning after a bomb blast.

The country has been rocked by a deadly wave of shootings and explosions in recent weeks – many suspected to be linked to a split within the Foxtrot gang.

Trudeau doubles down on disparaging Muslim Canadians … Will Islamophobia Tsar Amira Elghawaby demand his resignation?

Things somehow managed to go from bad to worse for the flailing Justin Trudeau on Monday when he was slapped with a stinging rebuke from the Muslim Association of Canada.

In a sharply worded statement, the 55,000-member faith-based organization condemned the prime minister (among other politicians and groups) for making statements that it claimed mischaracterized last week’s 1 Million March 4 Children and, implicitly, the involvement of members of the Muslim community in the protests. (Muslim organizers like Calgary’s Mahmood Mourra were highly visible in the protest’s leadership).

Ukrainian vet debacle reignites call to remove controversial Oakville monument

An Oakville cemetery is once again facing calls to remove a monument that pays tribute to a Ukrainian unit that was recently thrust into the spotlight when controversy erupted over a decision to honour one of its veterans in the House of Commons.

The monument in question is located within West Oak Memorial Gardens, a 100-acre cemetery at 1280 Dundas St. W. that is owned and operated by St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Cemetery. In 1988, a large statue commemorating what is known as the First Ukrainian Division of the Ukrainian National Army was erected at the burial ground, which is the largest Ukrainian cemetery in Canada.

You remove the monument you had better ensure Freeland is gone as well as her background is looking sketchier than Hunka’s.

‘I’m afraid at times.’ Teachers speak out on how anti-2SLGBTQ+ protests have shaken their classrooms

In his seven years teaching at a high school in North York, Kevin Doe has taken pride in making his classroom a sanctuary for students in ways they might not feel comfortable expressing elsewhere. He is open with his students about his experience as an openly gay educator through his work in the district’s Gay-Straight Alliance network.

He offers the kind of representation he wished existed when he was in high school two decades earlier.

Inclusive education practices by Doe and other Canadian educators have drawn criticism and harassment from anti-2SLGBTQ+ rights protests outside Toronto area high schools and across the country. Although these protests have been met with overwhelming numbers of counterprotesters, some educators say it has sparked fear and distress in their classrooms.

Overwhelming numbers of counter-protesters? I have seen this alleged “fact” propagated elsewhere yet no proof is ever offered. Video from Twitter, from both sides, clearly indicated parents carried the day. Typically overwrought Star piece lying to favour of the Groomers.

David Krayden: New Poll Suggests ‘Million March For Children’ Parents Are the Majority

… The protest was met by a counter-protest in Ottawa and at other sites across Canada. These groups were significantly smaller in number, and were at least in part the result of a now infamous video conference call on Sept. 15 that brought a variety of Ontario union leaders together on company time to work for the LGBTQ forces.

The counter-protesters accused the parents of being hateful and labelled them as fascists, as if caring about what your child is taught in the classroom can ever be described as hatred. And apparently not knowing that it is fascist, Nazi, and communist regimes that insist upon the state—and not parents—rearing and educating children.
