‘Anti-woke’ general and his wife to endorse Poilievre, talk ‘common sense’ values at CPC convention

OTTAWA – Retired Lt.-Gen. Michel Maisonneuve and his wife, retired Maj. Barbara Maisonneuve, are once again hoping for a standing ovation when they take the stage during the Conservative party convention in Quebec City on Thursday night.

In an interview, the military couple, lifelong Conservatives and supporters of leader Pierre Poilievre, said they were already expecting to attend the convention as delegates when the party asked them to deliver the opening speech together as a “tag team.”

Sask. immigration draws based primarily on European countries of origin could be ‘problematic’ says Multicult grifter

Saskatchewan’s shift to drawing immigrants from specific, mostly-European nations, could be “problematic,” according to the head of an organization that works with newcomers to the province.

On Aug. 16, the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) announced six draws for 642 applicants from eight countries – seven of which are located in Europe. Typically the program’s draws have not been targeted at specific countries and only weighed a candidate’s credentials.

“We need to make sure that we are not selecting people based on who’s already here,” said Rhonda Rosenberg, Executive Director of the Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan.

“I think that this is where it could be perhaps problematic. In our communities, we value everybody’s contributions and not just those who are of European heritage.”

The minute someone says “problematic” start hurling rocks.

It will be the least problematic of all approaches that’s how they designed it.

College-town blues

Why is academia so rife with lefties?

College towns are “decimating the GOP,” reported Politico in July, the reason being, in part, that “more college students and more faculty tend to be a recipe for more Democratic votes.”

The college-town blues are a phenomenon with which I’m quite familiar. I live in Philipsburg, an old lumber and coal-mining town about twenty-five miles from State College, home to Pennsylvania State University. Though we’re in the same county, “the mountain” separates us physically, and as for politics… well, at last month’s Rush Township supervisors meeting, an old-timer floated the idea of seceding from Centre County (his main concern being that Centre County requires emissions testing on vehicles, and neighboring red counties don’t). The township solicitor told the man that this concept had been tried some twenty years ago, but it would take an act of the state legislature to change the county boundaries, and “they don’t give a rat’s hindquarter about this part of the world.”

Chicago Fire

Brandon Johnson is on course to be the Windy City’s most damaging leader in living memory.

Brandon Johnson – Looting Enthusiast

Brandon Johnson has reached the 100-day mark as mayor of Chicago. His actions and statements in that time suggest that the city will face continued decline. He remains beholden to the group most responsible for his election: the Chicago Teachers Union. And when it comes to the twin dangers shadowing Chicago’s future—crime and fiscal irresponsibility—he has set the stage to make them even worse.

This is Toronto’s fate.

The videos ISIS didn’t want you to see: How grainy security footage could help hold abusers to account

The footage is mundane and revelatory all at once.

The hallway, filmed from an unmoving closed-circuit camera, appears unremarkable. It’s the point in time, and the people in the former children’s hospital, that make the hours and hours of video from this and other cameras on site extraordinary.

ISIS fighters roamed the hallways of this building complex in the Syrian city of Aleppo, which they had claimed as a headquarters. They moved blindfolded prisoners. They struck them with sticks. They walked past a man being tortured – straining to stand, arms tied aloft behind his back.

China: Preparing for War

Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leader Xi Jinping is rapidly militarizing his country and has instructed its army to “prepare for war” and “fight and win” it. Just a few weeks ago, China expert (full disclosure: and Gatestone Senior Fellow) Gordon Chang warned:

“Chinese ruler Xi Jinping replaced the senior leadership of China’s Rocket Force, which is responsible for almost all of China’s 400 or so nuclear warheads. These personnel changes are part of what is almost certainly the most ominous development of this time. It looks like Xi is contemplating using or at least threatening to use his most destructive weapons. In other words, China is planning to go to war.

“Xi sacked Rocket Force commander, Li Yuchao, and its political commissar, Xu Zhongbo. Neither has been seen in public since. Li’s deputy, Liu Guangbin, has also disappeared, along with Zhang Zhenzhong, a former deputy. At about the same time, Wu Guohua, deputy commander of the Rocket Force, reportedly took his own life in early July.”

Xi is doubtless weighing the risk-reward ratio of launching an aggressive operation against Taiwan during US President Joe Biden’s term of office. Xi is doubtless aware that his “window of opportunity” may be closing in 18 months, accompanied by a felicitously distracting US presidential election.

PBS Weeps Over Denial of ‘Gender-affirming Medical Care’ for TX Transgender Kids

Role Model

Friday’s edition of the tax-supported PBS NewsHour reacted with alarm about the news that what the left calls “gender-affirming medical care” for children (i.e., puberty blockers, hormone treatments, and irrevocable surgeries) has been outlawed in Texas. It featured reporter Laura Barron-Lopez, surely busy between her fixation on teenage gender dysphoria and her official job as NewsHour’s White House correspondent.

Missing million temporary residents in figures casts doubt on how many have jobs: report

A discrepancy of around a million temporary residents between official figures from two federal bodies is leaving Canada in the dark about how many of those residents actually have jobs, an economist is warning.

“I want to know the truth,” he said. “What’s the true number here? The reality is that nobody knows what the truth is – nobody. And that’s a problem.”

The report says undercounting of temporary residents in labour force figures could have a serious impact on planning to alleviate labour shortages, and could also affect wages.

Incompetence or a deliberate scam? Either way Canadian citizens have their prosperity undermined by mass immigration.

Titless Teacher A Big Bust

HUNTER: With police escort, teacher ZZZ top is queen for a day

The two protesters showed up but left before brandishing their placards.

Tuesday was not the first day of classes at Nora Frances Henderson Secondary School in Hamilton. That honour would go to Wednesday.

Nonetheless, a quartet of photographers showed up to capture Woman of the Year, Kayla Lemieux. They were from the Daily Mail, New York Post and the Toronto Sun.

Nolte: 6 Biggest Disasters Hitting Woke Walt Disney

The news that Disney’s stock price target has just been downgraded to a still optimistic $110 offers a perfect jumping-off point to look at why.

Disney was once one of the most bulletproof brands on the planet. For almost a hundred years, Disney meant magic, family, innocence, fun, and fairy tales. But thanks to the corporation’s current obsession with identity politics and sexual perversion, the brand is not only tarnished, these dual obsessions have sucked all the creative spirit and energy out of a company that once seemed infallible.

FIRST READING: First Nations never said there were mass graves at residential schools

In the last week, some international news outlets published claims that Canada has fallen for one of the biggest hoaxes in its history.

“Alleged mass grave of Indigenous children at Catholic schools across Canada contains NO BODIES,” declared Britain’s Daily Mail last Thursday. “No human remains found two years after claims of ‘mass graves’ in Canada,” headlined the New York Post. The American Conservative claimed Canada has perpetrated an “anti-Catholic blood libel.”
