Attack from space would trigger collective defence, say US and Japan, amid China fears

The US and Japan have said that an attack in space would trigger their security treaty, as senior officials from both countries warned that China represents the “greatest strategic challenge” to regional security.

“We agree that [China] is the greatest shared strategic challenge that we, our allies and partners face,” the US secretary of state, Antony Blinken, said on Thursday after meeting his Japanese counterpart, Yoshimasa Hayashi, in Washington.

US and Japanese defence chiefs agreed that attacks “to, from and within” space could invoke article five of their security treaty, which states that an attack on one of the allies is an attack on both.

The first broadcast took place yesterday, where journalist Josh Baker promised a no-holds barred examination over coming weeks into what motivated a teenager from Bethnal Green to throw her lot in with a gang of theological fascists.

Those who are expecting the Disneyfication of her story may well be disappointed. In a previous series, Baker forensically examined and challenged the assertions of another – much more unlikely – Isis convert, the US Indiana soccer mom Samantha Sally. Sally, who was jailed in the US in 2020 for financing terrorism, took her children with her to Syria, ending up with her terrorist husband in the Caliphate stronghold of Raqqa. Baker spent much of that series carefully exposing the inconsistencies in her story built around a narrative that she was hapless, helpless and exploited.

Garland appoints Robert Hur as special counsel to investigate classified Biden documents

Attorney General Merrick Garland announced Thursday he is appointing former U.S. attorney Robert Hur to serve as special counsel to investigate President Joe Biden’s mishandling of classified documents.

Hur will investigate the way classified documents were handled and if any criminal charges should be filed against Biden.

A pickup truck decorated with a Confederate flag at the “Freedom Convoy” in Ottawa early last year was driven by a local roofer who supported the protests, not by Liberal government “provocateurs” as convoy organizers alleged at the public inquiry into the invoking of the Emergencies Act.

Maurice Landriault told CTV National News that it was his Dodge Ram 2500 seen on Elgin Street and at a protest site at Confederation Square, but he denies the flag he mounted on the tailgate next to a Canadian flag was offensive.

“It’s a sign of independence,” he said. “I look at it as a rebel sign. In the biker community, a lot of people have the Confederate flag because we’re rebels.”

Boy aren’t you glad this has been cleared up? What’s that? You say it was all MSM Hysteria designed to tar all the protesters and criminalize dissent? Yea, you’re right but that’s what they’re paid to do.

‘A raw nerve’: Alberta professor to assess level of white supremacy in military

The Department of National Defence has awarded a grant to a University of Alberta professor to conduct a deep dive into the extent of white supremacy in the Canadian Armed Forces.

Andy Knight, a professor of international relations and the school’s first provost fellow in Black excellence and leadership, made a proposal to the federal department last fall in which he drew attention to racism in the military.

Over the next year, he is to assess just how entrenched radicalization, anti-Semitism, xenophobia and anti-Black sentiments are in the Forces and come up with a suggested policy to respond.

… Knight said he decided to pursue the research after noting that there were a number of active Canadian soldiers participating in last year’s “Freedom Convoy” protest in Ottawa, which began with anger over COVID-19 vaccine mandates for cross-border truckers, but attracted some more radical elements as it grew.

Weapons makers say Ottawa is leaving them in the dark on its plans to aid Ukraine

The association representing Canada’s defence contractors says it’s going to take a lot more than talk to put the industry on a so-called “war footing.”

In a bluntly-worded opinion piece published online Wednesday, Christyn Cianfarani, executive director of the Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries, said that Canada — unlike its allies — has not put in place a framework to ramp up production to meet the demand triggered by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Instead, Cianfarani wrote, the industry has heard “vague pleas” from the Liberal government “for companies to get with the program,” without any clear sense of which items of equipment are needed and what the long-term expectations might be.

Was it all just Liberal Bullshit or are they waiting for palms to be greased?

Pollara Strategic Insights’ annual economic outlook is bleak — even though Canada is not technically in recession, defined as two consecutive quarters of the economy shrinking instead of growing.

Canada’s cities see immigration-driven population surge after pandemic lull

Canada’s urban areas experienced their strongest population growth in at least two decades, rebounding from a weak expansion during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over the year ending July 1, 2022, the country’s census metropolitan areas (CMAs) grew 2.1 per cent or by 574,000 people, according to Statistics Canada estimates published on Wednesday. That was the strongest pace of growth in figures that go back to the early 2000s.

It was a comeback of sorts for urban regions, which had grown just 0.5 per cent the previous year, lagging the increase in rural areas. The pandemic and accompanying border restrictions led to a dramatic decline in immigration, while others decamped to smaller communities.

This is nothing to be happy about.

The head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards has warned France and the editors of Charlie Hebdo they may face the same fate as Salman Rushdie after more cartoons were published by the satirical magazine mocking Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the country’s supreme leader.

“I advise the French and directors of the Charlie Hebdo magazine to take a look at the fate of Salman Rushdie,” Major-General Hossein Salami said according to the Mehr news agency on Tuesday.
