One of the figures agitating for cinemas to cancel a film accused of “blasphemy” is the Government’s adviser on Islamophobia, The Telegraph can reveal.

Cinema chain Cineworld was forced to cancel screenings of The Lady of Heaven, about the Prophet Mohammed’s daughter, after venues showing the historical epic were picketed by hundreds of Muslim demonstrators.

It has emerged that one of the figures lobbying for screenings to be cancelled is Imam Qari Asim, an independent government advisor on Islamophobia, who has branded the film “derogatory”.

Ukraine’s deputy head of military intelligence has said Ukraine is losing against Russia on the frontlines and is now almost solely reliant on weapons from the west to keep Russia at bay.

“This is an artillery war now,” said Vadym Skibitsky, deputy head of Ukraine’s military intelligence. The frontlines were now where the future would be decided, he told the Guardian, “and we are losing in terms of artillery”.

Vladimir Putin has compared himself to the 18th-century Russian tsar Peter the Great, drawing a parallel between what he portrayed as their twin historic quests to win back Russian lands.

“Peter the Great waged the great northern war for 21 years. It would seem that he was at war with Sweden, he took something from them. He did not take anything from them, he returned [what was Russia’s],” the Russian president said on Thursday after a visiting an exhibition dedicated to the tsar.

Putin: West unlikely to reject Russian energy for years

Russian President Vladimir Putin says the West will not be able to cut itself off from Russian oil and gas for several years.

He added that nobody knows what might happen in that time, so Russian companies would not be “concreting over their oil-wells”.

It comes as a US official admitted that Russian profits on energy may be higher now than they were before the war.

Brown says he won’t run for the Conservatives if Poilievre wins the leadership

Brampton, Ont. Mayor Patrick Brown said Thursday he won’t run for the federal Conservatives if his main rival for the leadership, Pierre Poilievre, wins the party’s top job in the September leadership election.

In an interview with CBC’s Power & Politics, Brown said he’s confident he can win the leadership but, if he falls short, he’d also consider running under the party banner in the next election if former Quebec premier Jean Charest or MP Leslyn Lewis wins the leadership.

Animal shelter to NRA and gun restriction foes: No pets for you

If you want to adopt a dog or cat from this Southern California animal shelter, you have to be 25, prove you can provide a pet with a good home — and support gun restrictions.

Membership in the NRA is a deal breaker, said Shelter Hope Pet Shop owner Kim Sill.

“We do not support those who believe that the 2nd amendment gives them the right to buy assault weapons,” Sill wrote on a website for the shelter in Thousand Oaks, California, about 40 miles northwest of Los Angeles. “If your beliefs are not in line with ours, we will not adopt a pet to you.”

Sill added, “If you lie about being a NRA supporter, make no mistake, we will sue you for fraud.”

Leslyn Lewis vows to defund the CBC and restore the media’s ‘independence’ if elected PM

Dr. Leslyn Lewis, Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) MP and leadership candidate says she will “restore” Canada’s media “independence” and stop media bailouts at the hands of the federal government should she one day become prime minister.

“Everyone has the right to free speech and to their own views, but the government shouldn’t be paying for the ability of journalists to amplify their opinions,” wrote Lewis in a campaign platform update posted Tuesday titled “Defunding the CBC.”

35-40% of Under-50 Respondents Endorse “Assassinating a Politician Who Is Harming the Country or Our Democracy”

This is according to a Southern Poverty Law Center poll, conducted by Tulchin Research (warning: FiveThirtyEight.com gives Tulchin mediocre marks, at least as to its campaign polls). The poll was “a nationwide survey of 1,500 adults ages 18+ which was conducted via online panel,” so I expect there were likely only about 150 respondents in each of the demographic categories (such as “Younger Republican Men”) which would mean a margin of error of about 8%, so I’d be hesitant to make much of (say) Younger Republican Women seeming to support assassination more than Younger Republican Men, Younger Republican Women more than Younger Democratic Women, or Younger Democratic Men more than Younger Republican Men.

But it does seem that among the under-50-year-olds, there is about 35-40% support, with no detectable aggregate difference between Democrats (averaging 38-54%) and Republicans (37%-56%).

We’re Fundamentally Transforming Our Society Because Of A Generation Desperate For Attention

A recent study by the Center for the Study of Partisanship and Ideology (CSPI) found that the number of young people who identify as LGBT has skyrocketed over the last five years.

While the sexual identification of older generations remained static, the percentage of Millennials, Americans born between 1981 and 1996, who identified as LGBT increased from a little over five percent in 2012 to 10.5% in 2021. The percent of Americans in Generation Z, born between 1997 and 2012, who also claimed to be LGBT soared from an already suspiciously high 10.5% in 2017 to an unfathomable 20.8% — one out of five — in 2021.

However, the study critically found that this rapid growth in LGBT identification is caused by people who are exclusively heterosexual in practice. In the 1990s, 96% of Americans under 30 reported that they exclusively had heterosexual partners. By 2021, that had dipped to 92%. That’s a significant increase, but it doesn’t jive with the reported astronomic growth in the young LGBT population over the last half-decade.

Jagmeet Singh’s Political Career Is Falling Apart

Jagmeet Singh’s political career seems to be on the rocks these days. Singh may still be the leader of a major federal party that is polling around 20 percent but it is clear that anything the NDP currently has going for it is all in spite of his leadership.

Back in the 2021 election, it was clear that Singh’s strategy to try and monopolize the youth vote by streaming himself playing video games on Twitch with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and shooting TikTok videos did not pay off at all. Despite Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s deep unpopularity and O’Toole’s limp campaign Singh could only pick up a single seat for the NDP, after a 2019 election where he lost 15 seats.

And somehow things only got worse after the last federal election.
