Estimated 2,500 undeclared foreign agents operate in Canada: Ottawa

OTTAWA — The federal government estimates there are nearly 2,500 businesses or people in Canada working surreptitiously on behalf of foreign states to influence local politics and governments who will need to register publicly.

That’s according to proposed regulations for Canada’s long-awaited foreign agent registry published on Saturday.

‘Black drug dealer who had it coming’: Family concerned alleged comments by Ontario SIU manager prejudiced case

A legal dispute is providing a window into allegations of workplace harassment at the office of Ontario’s police watchdog, and showcasing controversial comments about a police shooting death alleged to have been made by someone who’s now a top manager there.

The alleged comments, including labelling one victim shot by police as a “Black drug dealer who had it coming,” are signs of prejudice that need to be dealt with at the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), say family members of the man who died.

On the other hand it may have been an accurate observation.

Cuba Is Already on the Brink. Maduro’s Ouster Brings It Closer to Collapse.

Cubans are speculating about whether their government will be the next to fall, with crucial Venezuelan oil imports now in jeopardy

Elderly Cubans are digging through garbage for scraps of food in Havana. In the country’s second city, Santiago, crowds have gathered, blaring music by Cuban exiles such as Gloria Estefan and Willy Chirino, who sings “Our day is coming soon.”

The U.S. ouster of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro has jolted this country of fewer than 10 million people, which has long relied on Venezuela for oil imports that have barely kept its tiny economy from collapsing.

It opens a new and perilous chapter for the island’s Communist regime during an economic implosion that already rivals the crisis suffered by Cuba after the collapse of the Soviet Union more than three decades ago.

Pilot phase of Liberal gun buyback program collects 25 firearms

The Liberal government says it’s learned some lessons after a pilot project to buy outlawed assault-style firearms from owners yielded a low uptake.

Since 2020, Ottawa has banned some 2,500 makes and models of assault-style firearms, arguing they are designed for warfare — not hunters and sport shooters.

The decision saw backlash from the Opposition Conservatives and firearms-rights groups. The government has pointed to its plan to buy back those guns as a way to fairly compensate owners.

UK’s Metropolitan Police employed child rapists as officers ‘to improve diversity’

The UK’s Metropolitan Police is facing fierce criticism after a damning review revealed it allowed highly problematic and serious dangerous criminals to enter its ranks due to a combination of extremely poor vetting and diversity goals.

More than 130 officers and staff within the London force, including two convicted serial rapists, were taken on when they should not have been.

The trouble with Carney

The trouble with Carney

“Thucydides warned that “the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must.” Carney’s tragedy is that he quotes the rules‑based order while presiding over a country whose economic structure is colonial and whose security ultimately depends on the very power he is theatrically chastising. Posturing without power is not prudence. It is provocation without a plan. And yes it’s dangerous.”

The China Class sent Chretien in advance of Carney’s arrival. The Liberal Party should have to register as foreign agents.

Carney may not be working with Trump but he certainly isn’t working for us.

Iran’s Army Chief Must Have Lost His Damn Mind

Iran’s army chief threatened military action against the United States after President Donald Trump warned the regime against using lethal force against protesters amid widespread demonstrations.

Tens of thousands of Iranians took to the streets about a week ago, expressing their anger over inflation and the devaluation of their currency. But the movement quickly morphed into calls for the end of the Islamic regime.

Canada’s armed forces are planning for threats from America

Canada never had an equivalent of Uncle Sam, sternly exhorting its citizens to sign up to fight for their country. That is changing. Jennie Carignan, Canada’s top soldier, is looking for Canadians—whether they are 16 or 65—who will come to their country’s aid in the event of a military attack or calamitous natural disaster. “We’re going to need heavy-equipment operators,” says General Carignan. “We’re going to need drone operators. We’re going to potentially need cyber operators as well.” Call her Aunt Jennie.

There is no direct line between her plan for a 400,000-strong civilian-defence force and Donald Trump plucking Venezuela’s dictator, Nicolás Maduro, from his safe house in Caracas, Venezuela’s capital, on January 3rd. But nor is the timing entirely coincidental. In the past year Mr Trump has repeatedly asserted that it would be in Canada’s interest to become America’s 51st state. No one in a position of responsibility really believes the United States would ever invade. Even Mr Trump himself, when asked whether he would use military force to annex Canada, has said “no”, or that it is “very unlikely”.

Trump pulls US out of ‘racist’ UN forum that pushed ‘global reparations agenda’

WASHINGTON — President Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday to pull the US out of a UN coalition that State Department officials claim has been pushing unconstitutional and racist policies — including a push for global reparations.

The UN Permanent Forum on People of African Descent promoted racial grievances and “victim based social policies” within the world’s governing body that ran afoul of the US Constitution’s 14th Amendment and Equal Protection clause, according to Trump administration officials.

Alberta’s independence movement is a global rarity: right-wing separatists

OTTAWA — Referendum talk is heating up in both Quebec and Alberta to start the year, but the pro-independence talk is coming from opposite sides of the political spectrum.

While the (mostly) centre-left Parti Québécois and democratic socialist Québec Solidaire have long fronted Quebec’s separatist movement, Alberta separatism is an almost entirely right-wing phenomenon.

Denmark ‘will shoot first and ask questions later’ over Greenland

Danish soldiers will be required to shoot first and ask questions later if the United States invades Greenland, under the army’s rules of engagement.

On Wednesday, the Danish defence ministry confirmed the existence of a 1952 rule requiring soldiers to “immediately” counter-attack invading forces without awaiting orders.

The defence ministry also said that the rule “remains in force” when asked about its status by Berlingske, a centre-Right Danish newspaper.
