Dr. Robin MacGregor Murray, professor of psychiatric research at King’s College London, is sitting in his living room in Wimbledon, London. Up­stairs, his wife and colleague, Dr. Marta Di Forti, is talking with a patient over Zoom. The husband-and-wife team are two of the world’s leading researchers on cannabis and psychosis.

In 2004, the pair launched the Genetics and Psychotic Disorder study, examining the genetic and environmental causes of psychosis. Since 2019, Di Forti has been running the National Health Service’s first clinic for cannabis-induced psychosis. The initial pilot scheme had 20 patients. Demand for the service is only growing, with 30 or more patients participating by Zoom each week. Di Forti told the London Times that she gets “emails from parents and young people across the country asking to come to the clinic,” but they do not yet have the capacity. At present the staff are mostly operating virtually, on account of the pandemic, but they also admit roughly 200 patients to the hospital per year with florid cannabis-induced psychosis. In England, cannabis-related hospitalizations are on the rise, with a 57 percent in­crease between 2013 and 2018, from 19,765 to 31,130 patients.

Recently, Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau essentially called Melissa Lantsman, a conservative member of the Canadian Parliament, a swastika-waving Nazi.  This wasn’t just the usual disgusting and preposterously hysterical hyperbole employed by leftists.  This was particularly egregious, as Lantsman is a descendant of Holocaust survivors.  But in what passes for the mind of the prime minister, she had to be savaged because she dared to defend the truckers who are protesting his draconian mandates and increasingly brutal police-state actions.

I was afraid of witches as a child. Indeed, I was convinced that there was an old crone hanging out in my bedroom closet just waiting to pounce. Not sure where or how it began, but it ended when I decided to take every bit of clothing and assorted junk out of my closet to convince myself that there was no witch stirring her cauldron there. Tragically, kids today have so much more than one imaginary hag scaring the living daylights out of them. In fact, there are enough witches these days to make a sizable coven.

To solve a “national emergency,” banks in Canada can now deprive anyone remotely connected to the Ottawa protest the ability to pay for the following: food, childcare, transportation, phone services, internet, heating, electricity, medication, legal services, and more. I’m no public safety expert, but it’s common sense that people need money to survive daily life. And yet, the federal government has set up a system to deny potentially thousands of people the ability to pay for basic necessities.

Last summer, I warned readers of Common Sense that financial deplatforming would be the next wave of online censorship. Big Tech companies like PayPal were already working with left-wing groups like the ADL and SPLC to define lists of individuals and groups who should be denied service. As more and more similarly minded tech companies followed suit (as happened with social media censorship), these deplorables would be deplatformed, debanked, and eventually denied access to the modern economy altogether, as punishment for their unacceptable views.

That prediction has become reality.
