ABC, NBC Barely Touch Minnesota Fraud, While CBS Delivers the Goods

While all three big three broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC) have covered the widespread cases of social services fraud among Minnesota’s Somali community, the frequency and thoroughness of the coverage has varied widely depending on the network. Before December 29, CBS was the only network to have aired even a single full-length report about the scandal, and as of this study’s publishing, ABC hasn’t touched the story outside of a single offhand mention on December 3.

Toronto sees 35 per cent spike in holiday overdose calls over previous years

Toronto Public Health is warning that this holiday season saw a sharp uptick in opioid overdose calls compared to previous years.

The organization said Monday that there have been 122 reports of suspected opioid overdoses between Dec. 20 and Dec. 28, a 35 per cent increase over similar periods in the last two years. However, this surge in calls has not resulted in a corresponding rise in fatalities; officials reported fewer than five opioid-related deaths, a figure consistent with last year.

Clooney Says ‘Au Revoir’ to Hollywood, Goes French With Wife and Twins

Actor and hardcore liberal George Clooney has packed up his wife and their 8-year-old twins and headed off to France, where they have become French citizens. Why? To escape Hollywood culture. The irony is that the very same liberal ideology and policies Clooney has long championed helped create the culture he is now fleeing. And yet he appears to have learned absolutely nothing from the experience, clinging to those same beliefs.

Elbows up in 2025: How a year of Canadian boycotts on U.S. products played out

It became a rallying cry, a cultural touchstone, a marketing strategy and — our favourite — often described in international media as “a hockey term” or “a Canadian phrase.”

We are, of course, referring to “Elbows Up,” Gordie Howe’s signature move to ward off opponents.

The 2025 #ElbowsUp movement may have started as a response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats to annex Canada, but it also came to symbolize the boycott of U.S. products as Trump’s tariffs launched a cross-border trade war.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — ‘Tis the season for renaming – everything from a cultural hub dedicated to a beloved slain president to new destroyers to 2025 itself. No, President Donald Trump hasn’t labeled the year with his name, but his U.S. Trade Representative, in a new op-ed, just dubbed it the “year of the tariff.”

Jamie Sarkonak: Liberals admit their own plastics ban is a disastrous sham

We’re never going to get an apology from the Liberals for their failed single-use plastics ban — but on Dec. 20, we got the next best thing: an admission that it was all a costly mistake.

It’s buried in the government’s proposal to cancel the export ban on plastic straws, cutlery, grocery bags, ring carriers, stir sticks and other food packaging, which took effect earlier this month. A draft amendment to the federal plastics regulations to that effect is open for public comment until Feb. 28, and will likely become law soon afterward.

Asylum seekers should be tagged, says policing chief

Asylum seekers should be required to wear electronic tags so their movements can be tracked, a policing chief has proposed.

Government plans to house 540 asylum seekers temporarily at Crowborough training camp, an Army barracks in Sussex, has caused concern in the community. The first people to be be transferred there are expected in the new year.
