Transgender fighter Alana McLaughlin wins MMA debut
Alana McLaughlin, the second openly transgender woman to compete in MMA in the United States, won her debut Friday night via submission at the Combate Global prelims in Miami, Fla.
The 38-year-old used a rear-naked choke against Celine Provost to end the match 3 minutes, 32 seconds into the second round.
McLaughlin, who began her gender transition after leaving the U.S. Army Special Forces in 2010, said she hopes to be a pioneer for transgender athletes in combat sports.

Taliban raise flag over presidential palace on 9/11 anniversary as brother of resistance leader slain
The Taliban raised their flag over the Afghan presidential palace on the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, as news emerged that the regime’s fighters had killed the brother of the country’s former vice-president at a checkpoint in Panjshir province.
Rohullah Azizi, the brother of former vice-president and anti-Taliban resistance leader Amrullah Saleh, was travelling in his car on Thursday when he and his driver were shot dead at a Taliban checkpoint, his nephew said on Saturday.
Shuresh Saleh said on Saturday that it was unclear where his uncle, an anti-Taliban fighter, was headed when the Taliban caught him. He said phones were not working in the area.

“Return to the nuclear talks!” This is the advice that China, France and Russia have been publicly giving to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s new team in Tehran since they assumed power last month. Other powers, notably Germany, have echoed that advice in private. There are signs that the new Raisi team may be listening to that advice or, at least, trying to prepare public opinion for a return to Vienna with its flag in its pocket.
Raisi, who had once dismissed any negotiations with big powers as “out of the question,” now says he always regarded negotiations as “one instrument of policy.”
Several developments have contributed to what seems a less belligerent stance by Tehran.

The shadowy Zawahiri, a 70-year-old native of Egypt, is believed to be hiding out in Afghanistan or Pakistan. But he may not even be alive.

Annamie Paul says some of her candidates don’t want her to visit their ridings
TORONTO — Green Party Leader Annamie Paul said on Friday that she’s staying out of other ridings in part to avoid being a distraction and to honour her candidates’ wishes.
At a press conference on Friday, Paul addressed why she hasn’t been travelling to various ridings around the country, acknowledging that some candidates might not want her to visit.
“I still want to make sure that if I travel somewhere first, that I’m wanted, and that’s not a given, and then secondly, that it is going to help our local candidates and that’s also unfortunately, not a given,” she said a press conference on Friday.

There is not much of the Rapture here, little indication of the new Jerusalem prophesied in Revelation.
