Teachers to be trained to spot early signs of misogyny in boys

Teachers are not the role models you are looking for.

Teachers will be given training to spot the signs of misogyny and tackle it in the classroom as part of the government’s long-awaited strategy to halve violence against women and girls within the next decade.

The plans – which focus on preventing the radicalisation of young men – are due to be unveiled on Thursday, after being pushed back three times this year.

Pupils will be taught about issues such as consent, the dangers of sharing intimate images, how to identify positive role models and to challenge unhealthy myths about women and relationships.

Canada couldn’t treat a sick woman. So it offered her assisted suicide

Canada’s healthcare system used to be a source of pride for my country. It was regarded as one of the world’s best examples of a publicly-funded insurance system, free at the point of use, ranking highly for accessibility, care, compassion and the treatment of major and minor illnesses.

No longer. In 2024, the influential Commonwealth Fund survey placed Canada in seventh place out of ten developed countries, with a particularly poor score for access to care. In January, the Canada-based CD Howe Institute gave the country’s healthcare system an even gloomier diagnosis: it was placed ninth out of 10 countries, with all provinces and territories falling below the international average for overall healthcare performance.

Useless Australian PM announces useless crackdown on hate speech after Bondi shooting

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says his government will crack down on hate speech following Sunday’s deadly shooting at Bondi Beach that targeted a Jewish festival.

Fifteen people were killed when two gunmen opened fire at an event to mark the first day of Hanukkah.

New laws will target “those who spread hate, division and radicalisation”, Albanese told reporters in Canberra.

“Mark Carney says Trump wants Canada to be dependent on the U.S.” … Psst … Marky we already are and I prefer them to your pals the CCP

OTTAWA — U.S. President Donald Trump wants the relationship with Canada to be one of “dependence” on the United States, and is not talking about ripping up the trilateral free trade pact but renegotiating it, says Prime Minister Mark Carney.

In a pair of French-language interviews marking the year’s end, Carney revealed for the first time details of his private conversation earlier this month with Trump and Mexican President Claudia

Sheinbaum on the sidelines of the World Cup soccer draw in Washington — which came following a stormy six-week hiatus after Trump cut off bilateral trade talks on sectoral tariffs.

Zelensky gives stark warning as EU leaders start crunch talks on Russia’s frozen cash

Volodymyr Zelensky is urging European Union leaders gathered at a crunch summit in Brussels to loan billions of euros in frozen Russian money to fund Ukraine’s military and economic needs.

Most of Russia’s €210bn (£185bn; $245bn) worth of assets in the EU are held by Belgium-based organisation Euroclear, and so far Belgium and some other members of the bloc have said they are opposed to using the cash as a “reparations loan”.

Russia has warned the EU not to use its money, but without a boost in funding Ukraine’s finances are set to run dry in a matter of months.

“I hope we will be able to get a positive decision,” Zelensky told reporters. “Without this there will be a big problem for Ukraine”.

U.S. trade rep says access to Canada’s dairy market key to CUSMA review

Canada will have to increase access to the United States when it comes to dairy products as part of a renegotiated U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement.

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer told members of the U.S. Congress on Thursday that concerns related to dairy market access in Canada and its exports of certain dairy products are part of a “non-exhaustive” list of issues that need to be addressed as part of the six-year joint review of the trade agreement.

Greer said that while several stakeholders expressed support and explicitly called for the agreement to be extended, “virtually all stakeholders also called for some sort of improvement to the Agreement.”

Canada records first population drop since pandemic: StatCan

Canada’s population dropped by about 76,000 from July to October, according to federal estimates, in a decrease largely attributed to immigration policy.

Statistics Canada published its preliminary Q3 report Wednesday morning, which estimated Canada’s population to be 41,575,585 as of Oct. 1.

The main factor was a sharp reduction in non-permanent residents, whose numbers dropped by 176,479 – the largest drop since comparable records began, wrote the agency.

Woke authorities release illegal immigrant after his truck crash killed hardworking dad-of-two

Woke Washington state authorities were slammed after releasing an illegal immigrant truck driver accused of killing a father-of-two in a horror crash.

Indian national Kamalpreet Singh, 25, allegedly drove his semi-truck into the stopped car of Robert Pearson, 29, on December 11, killing the beloved father.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) issued a detainer for Singh following his arrest after it was found he was in the country illegally, but Washington authorities refused to honor the order.

Jamie Sarkonak: He was caught with child porn. An immigration discount helped him stay in Canada

When permanent resident Navinder Singh was caught with child pornography on his phone in 2018, he didn’t understand what was so wrong about it. He thought that his 19 videos of sexual abuse were “funny” and told a forensic psychologist afterward that things “were different in India.”

Without any details — it gets worse — this alone would tell any regular Canadian that Singh was incompatible with our society. But at every step of the way, the system has fought hard to keep him in Canada. By 2024, he was still here, fighting deportation, and it’s very possible that he remains. His case highlights the many failure points at which the immigration system fails to keep criminal perverts out of the country.

‘First black Briton’ honoured by BBC was actually white

The “first black Briton” honoured by BBC was actually white, a new genetic study has shown.

In 2016, the series Black and British: A Forgotten History, suggested that the Roman skeleton of a woman found at Beachy Head was from sub-Saharan Africa.

A plaque was erected to commemorate her heritage, which was later removed when a study suggested the woman was more likely to be from Cyprus, with a Mediterranean complexion.
