Federal budget 2025: Foreigners living in Canada will get permanent residence priority, Immigration Minister says
Immigration Minister Lena Diab says her department will prioritize foreigners living in Canada for permanent residency over people applying to settle here from abroad, as she published more details of the number of immigrants who will be allowed to settle here over the next three years.
Tuesday’s budget set out plans to freeze the number of permanent residents at 380,000 a year for three years.
But figures published by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada on Wednesday showed that an additional 148,000 permanent residents will be added to the official targets over the next two years through one-off initiatives.
Meanwhile the Globe continues to platform Century Initiative Mass Immigration Gaslighting. Carney’s pal and advisor Wiseman likely has his hands all over this duplicity.
Ottawa’s new immigration plan risks lowering Canada’s quality of life
Lisa Lalande is chief executive of the Century Initiative.
It doesn’t take much to decode how the Liberals want Canadians to understand their new immigration strategy, unveiled in Tuesday’s budget.
The message is clear: quality over quantity. As Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne put it in his prebudget news conference, “On one hand [we’re] saying, ‘Yes, we’re getting back to sustainable levels.’ On the other hand, we’re really focusing on attracting the best and brightest.”

They’re not here to reform. They’re here to replace. And in the end, what matters is demography.
“Submission is like a hand grenade that activates slowly,” says novelist Michel Houellebecq to the Danish magazine Information. “In France, we’re not there yet, but the situation is like the beginning of the novel. It’s a slow process, but that’s the way things are going.”
What process is he referring to? “A clear movement of adaptation to Islam. Sure, it’s hard to predict what and when it will happen. But the direction is clear.”
That process is now evident in the United States as well.
New York is now about to have its first Muslim mayor, Zohran Mamdani.

In 1918, V.I. Lenin renamed the Bolshevik Party the Russian Communist Party. Western scholars and policymakers soon began studying communism and the threat it posed to free nations.
In 1920, the German Workers’ Party adopted a new name: the National Socialist German Workers’ Party, better known as the Nazi Party. Western scholars and policymakers soon began studying Nazism and the threat it posed to free nations.

Many readers will be aware of a recent spate of activist rulings from federal judges in Canada, like the July ruling by a Toronto judge that there exists a heretofore unknown Charter right to bike lanes. Justice Paul Schabas created this right out of thin air because he wanted to prevent Ontario’s Conservative government from ordering the removal of bike lanes from major streets.

Is Hamas planning to thwart US efforts to deploy an international force in the Gaza Strip?
On November 4, Musa Abu Marzouk, a senior Hamas official, told Qatar’s Al-Jazeera TV network that “a military force that could replace the [Israeli] occupation is unacceptable.”

WASHINGTON – Most Americans — including Republicans — continue to view Canada positively in economic and trade matters even as U.S. President Donald Trump directs anger at their northern neighbour.
That finding comes from new polling by Leger, Maintenant Media and Canada 338 that also says Americans trust that Canada is negotiating in good faith as the countries face an uncertain trade relationship.
“In the American general public, there’s still some general goodwill towards Canada,” said Andrew Enns, Leger’s executive vice-president for Central Canada.
The statement sought by CBS News and provided by the Department of Homeland Security completely undermined the report on a Chicago ICE arrest that ran on the Evening News. But the network ran the report nonetheless, burying the DHS’s statement at the end of the report.

A Portuguese immigrant ordered deported six years ago for his role in the killing of a McMaster University mechanical engineering student has won a chance to restore his status as a permanent resident.

Two men have been arrested following a fire at a building housing people applying for international protection in Drogheda, County Louth last Friday night.
In total, five people were rescued from the top floor of the building, according to Irish broadcaster RTÉ, and a number were taken to hospital for medical assessment. Those rescued included four children.
Gardaí commenced an investigation into the alleged attempted arson of the property.
Some “Authorities” are claiming “racism” as that suits the narrative. Others point out criminal gang activity is the likely cause.

There’s a spectrum of terms used to describe MPs who cross the floor. But history shows us there’s one word that doesn’t always stick when Canadian politicians shed one party affiliation for another: re-electable.
Jaws dropped in Ottawa following the revelation that longtime Conservative Chris d’Entremont is joining the federal Liberal caucus — with Prime Minister Mark Carney hinting others could follow.
Floor-crossing is a political phenomenon dating back to Confederation. But a dive into the record books shows it has increasingly come at an electoral price.

This story could have been ripped straight out of a political thriller. But it’s not fiction; it’s one of the strangest, most revealing twists yet in the never-ending saga of how far some corners of the government were evidently willing to go to weaponize their authority against Donald Trump.
If these First Nation land title claims are approved in Kamloops & Richmond it will be the end of democracy in Canada because we will be ruled by people who are not elected by us.
I am sure that was the intended end result all along.

While Torontonians are evenly split on their mayor’s handling of the job, the proportion who strongly disapprove of Olivia Chow’s performance is rising, according to a new Leger poll.
Older Torontonians also feel differently than younger ones about Chow’s performance.
