What the hell happened to NFTs?

The mad gold rush of the digital art world has come to an abrupt end – and people are losing money fast

“Everyone during this time, everyone I knew, was saying, ‘You gotta make an NFT,’” says the painter Max Denison-Pender, recalling the tulip fever that spread through the art world at the beginning of the 2020s. Its peak was marked by one seismic event. In March 2021, the venerable auction house Christie’s sold its first wholly digital artwork, Everydays: the First 5000 Days, by the artist known as Beeple, for $69.3 million (about £50m) in cryptocurrency, making it one of the most expensive works ever sold by a living artist; by contrast, Jeff Koons’s stainless steel sculpture Rabbit (1986) sold for $91.07 million in 2019 at the same auction house.

Unbelievable? Hardly. NFT’s were pimped like all art is pimped.

Canadians would be wise to listen to what the U.S. ambassador has to say

Ambassador Pete Hoekstra, the United States’ top diplomat to Canada, has come under fire for being undiplomatic. But this criticism is misguided. At a time when Canadian workers and business leaders face unprecedented uncertainty, we need more candour, not less.

Since arriving in Canada, Mr. Hoekstra has taken part in multiple panels, podcasts, and press interviews, and has been unfailingly frank in explaining U.S. President Donald Trump’s thinking. That’s his job. His role as ambassador is to faithfully reflect his government’s positions.

White Muslim convert arrested after Manchester terror attack

A white Muslim convert widow was among three people arrested on suspicion of terrorism in relation to the Manchester synagogue attack.

Officers raided a house in Bolton on Thursday night, hours after Jihad al-Shamie had attacked the Heaton Park Synagogue in Crumpsall, killing two people and injuring several others.

Police arrested a 43-year-old man, a 46-year-old woman and an 18-year-old girl at the address in Bolton “in connection” with the knife attack, which ended when armed officers shot and killed al-Shamie.

Canada needs co-ordinated action plan to combat antisemitism, says former envoy

The federal government “has yet to appreciate the gravity of the threat” of antisemitism today and there needs to be a co-ordinated action plan to counter the problem, says former special envoy Irwin Cotler.

“We can’t continue to work in silos here or say it’s the others’ responsibility,” Cotler said in an interview with CBC’s The House that aired Saturday morning. “No, this is an integrated and collective responsibility.”

Too late. Unless you’re ready to ban islamist migration and carry out mass deportations, purge the universities and teacher colleges, the public service unions and of course the mainstream political parties.

The way things are going it will soon be an islamophobic hate crime to speak against antisemitism.

Why Conservatives Are Attacking ‘Wokepedia’

Winners may write history. But Elon Musk has often complained that losers author the Wikipedia entry.

Now conservatives are trying to change that, putting their focus on the unflashy website that gets more eyeballs than the largest U.S. media outlets, making it the latest institution to feel such pressure.

For those not chronically online, however, this past week’s tempest over Wikipedia can be jolting—especially given the site’s objective to remain trustworthy. For many, it is the modern-day encyclopedia—a site written and edited by volunteers that aims to offer, as Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales once said, free access to “the sum of all human knowledge.”

Don’t envy the winner of the federal NDP’s leadership contest

Hamish Telford doesn’t envy whoever is elected next leader of the federal NDP.

The University of Fraser Valley political scientist is likely not the only one who feels for the next person to head the flagging left-wing party.

The two front-running candidates, Telford said, are “idealistic” former journalist Avi Lewis, who is based in Metro Vancouver, and “pragmatic” Edmonton MP Heather McPherson. Montreal activist Yves Engler and Rob Ashton, a Vancouver union leader, are also throwing in their hats.

The NDP hate the working class, in particular the white working class. They will not win them back. (Incognito)

Oh The Humanity! Celebrity activist Greta Thunberg gets sore bum sitting in Israeli jail!

Celebrity activist Greta Thunberg being held in bedbug-infested cell in Israel: ‘Sitting for long periods on hard surfaces’

Celebrity Climate activist Greta Thunberg claims she’s been subjected to heinous conditions inside a bedbug-infested Israeli holding cell following her detention as part of an aid flotilla bound for Gaza.

Sweden’s Foreign Ministry notified Thunberg’s parents via email, which was shared with The Guardian, that they had met with the outspoken 22-year-old in Israel.

In the email, officials said Thunberg has complained of dehydration, claiming she hasn’t been given enough food or water.

Nothing will be easy for Mark Carney moving forward

Mark Carney was presented back in June with two “emotional support chickens” — the creation of an Edmonton Oilers fan and crochet artist to help fans of the hockey team deal with playoff stress.

“They give you something to hold onto while you’re trying to make it through overtime without having a heart attack,” said Ashley Sinclair, the creator, who admitted to being “gobsmacked” when she saw photos of Carney tossing around the chickens.

UK Jewish leadership criticizes Tommy Robinson invite to Israel describing him as a bully representing the worst in Britain

The Board of Deputies of British Jews condemned comments by Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli, who announced his intention to host right-wing activist Tommy Robinson in Israel later this month.

According to the Board, “Tommy Robinson is a bully representing the worst of Britain. His presence undermines the sincere efforts of those genuinely working to combat Islamic extremism and foster community cohesion.”

The ‘Board of Deputies of British Jews’ seems akin to the ADL suicidally left wing at heart.

I am not sure what allies the ‘Board’ expects to gain by ostracizing Tommy Robinson.

The ‘Board’s’ opposition is to my view dismissive of working class concerns regarding the toll population replacement scale migration has wrought on their lives.

Tommy has many well documented faults but he remains immensely popular especially among the white working class.

Condemning him will be perceived by many as identical to the ADL’s vicious smear of Charlie Kirk.

They best tread carefully or the silence will roar as never before.

Ford says PM Carney ‘better fight like hell’ during meeting with Trump next week

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says Prime Minister Mark Carney “better fight like hell” during his trip to Washington, D.C., next week.

“You’re going down there Tuesday. You better fight like hell. Don’t roll over and keep fighting,” Ford said during a rally in front of the Stellantis Assembly Plant in Brampton on Saturday afternoon.

Carney is set to travel to the U.S. capital for a “working visit and meeting” with President Trump, the Prime Minister’s Office said.

I get the feeling Ford is now living in the past.

Netanyahu says he hopes to announce hostage release in the ‘coming days’

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said he hopes to announce the release of hostages being held in Gaza “in the coming days”.

In a televised statement, he also said “Hamas will be disarmed and Gaza will be demilitarised – either the easy way or the hard way, but it will be achieved.”

The comments came after Hamas released a statement on Friday in which it agreed to free the hostages under a US peace plan, but did not mention disarmament and sought negotiations on other issues.

Hamas? No one can trust them.

‘Backed into a Corner,’ Gun buyback pilot program faces criticism

The federal government’s gun buyback pilot project to compensate legal owners who turn in prohibited firearms is facing opposition in Cape Breton, N.S., where it’s being rolled out.

“They got us backed into a corner,” says John Campbell, owner of The Bullet Box, a gun store and indoor range in Sydney, Cape Breton.

Campbell started his business six years ago out of a passion for sport shooting.

Now, he says his six-year-old business faces closure.
