Premier Wab Kinew announced Friday that Manitoba will spend $20 million to help build a permanent home for the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR) at the University of Manitoba.
Kinew, who is also minister responsible for indigenous reconciliation, said the centre will provide a place for Manitobans to honour survivors of residential schools and support ongoing healing.
One of the weirder aspects of the Justin Trudeau-Pierre Poilievre dynamic that dominated the previous Parliament is that a pair of adversaries who looked like opposites in every way were in fact mirror images.
Political lifers of a sort; charismatic; leaders of a movement version of their parties in a moment that sang out for it; susceptible to hubris and insularity that could feed bad political judgment; prone to dividing the world into people who agree with them and people who are wrong and bad.
Reactions to the conservative activist’s killing have become a litmus test for employers’ tolerance for political speech by employees, in public and private.
Within 24 hours of Charlie Kirk’s killing, an assistant dean at a Tennessee college, a communications staffer for an NFL team, a Next Door employee in Milwaukee, and the co-owner of a Cincinnati barbecue restaurant were fired after posting about it.
They had all used language or memes their employers deemed offensive or insensitive about the 31-year-old conservative firebrand. Kirk evoked strong feelings along party lines, and the fatal shooting in Utah on Wednesday unleashed parallel outpourings: On the right, there were mostly mournful expressions and demands for retribution; on the left, there was mostly condemnation of political violence and suggestions that he had it coming.
The @Panthers are a sh*t organization and should be boycotted. Their communications coordinator, Charlie Rock, mocked the assassination of Charlie Kirk. While he's been fired, owner David Tepper can't hire good people on or off the field. pic.twitter.com/h55x4tSguv
But it’s the prime minister’s migration of Trudeau’s centre-left Liberal party to the political centre — and beyond — that delivers the Conservative leader his primary challenge as he enters a new parliamentary session, armed with a domestic agenda his party insists it was right to focus on all along.
This calm, rational woman is exploding with anger over the fact that conservatives are mentally ill people who are disgusting and hateful. pic.twitter.com/UvBvgOzDpN
When Prime Minister Mark Carney unveiled his government’s first five “nation-building” projects this week, the focus was on scale and ambition. The LNG expansion in Kitimat, a small modular reactor at Darlington, the Contrecoeur container terminal in Montreal, and critical mineral developments in British Columbia and Saskatchewan demonstrate that Ottawa is ready to fast-track major projects that strengthen the country’s competitiveness. Energy, infrastructure, and mining are the building blocks of growth, and Carney is signalling he intends to put them at the centre of his economic strategy.
Toronto police arrest 10 people at Christie Pits during duelling rallies
Toronto police say they arrested six people at Christie Pits Park where a large anti-immigration rally and counter demonstration took place Saturday afternoon.
Police said one man was arrested for assault at an ongoing demonstration in the Bloor Street West and Christie Street area at around 12:40 p.m. in a social media post. In an update posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, shortly after 3 p.m., Toronto Police Service said six people were arrested at the demonstration
The MSM version of today’s anti-immigration protest would have you believe that the pro-immigration counter rally was a spontaneous grass-roots assembly. It wasn’t & you can rest assured your tax dollars funded the so called counter protesters.
Check out Caryma Sa’d’s channel, she has more rally video and also provides excellent insight into the political connections of the astro-turfed protesters.

I am at the Canada First, Remigration rally in Toronto with chants of “end mass immigration”, and “rest in peace Charlie Kirk”. Chants against mass immigration led by a black guy. pic.twitter.com/1aVzEgMmUN
Transgenderism and anti-Catholicism drove the recent killing in Minneapolis.
Last month in Minneapolis, Robin Westman, a 23-year-old man who had identified as a transgender woman, drove to the Annunciation Catholic Church with a rifle, a shotgun, and a pistol. He fired more than 100 rounds through the windows during the back-to-school Mass, leaving two children dead and nearly 20 people injured.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre says Canadians deserve a “tearful apology” from former Liberal immigration ministers for wrecking the immigration system and driving up pressure on housing, jobs and social services.
“Sean Fraser and Marc Miller, they should give a tearful apology,” Poilievre told reporters. “That’s the only thing they have left to do on the immigration file.”
The spectacle that unfolded in Beijing recently was unlike any other military parade the world has seen. China, to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, staged its most elaborate display of military might, showcasing hypersonic missiles, advanced drones, cyberwarfare divisions, and an arsenal that left no doubt about its ambitions to be seen as a global military superpower.
The union representing Canada’s 55,000 postal workers says it wants Canada Post to return to the bargaining table and commit to a “fair, ratifiable” contract with its employees or the union will “consider stronger actions” to move labour negotiations along.
“We ask when will it end? When will Canada Post stop stalling, ignoring results of the votes and start bargaining?” Jan Simpson, Canada Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) national president, asked on Friday.
I have cued the above to the moment with Erika Kirk starts speaking. Please sit down and watch it. The courage of this woman is off the charts. Her message is an important one to hear. If you can get through the part at the end where she recounts their three year old daughter running up to her yesterday asking, “Where’s Daddy?” without weeping, you are a stronger person than I.
Ontario corrections officials have denied a request to transfer registered child sex offender Daniel Senecal to a women’s jail as the 25-year-old awaits a bail hearing in another case, this one involving an attack on a girl in Welland.
Senecal was released earlier this year after serving time for the sexual assault of a 12-year-old in the Niagara Region city. The latest charges involve a three-year-old over the Labour Day weekend. Niagara police said the girl was sexually assaulted after someone broke into the family home.
Whenever a crime hits the national headlines, the left seems to leap straight to politicizing it. A mass shooting? Must be a white Christian nationalist. When Trayvon Martin attacked George Zimmerman and was shot, the media literally called Zimmerman a “white Hispanic.” Why? Because the narrative demanded it. The left is always obsessed with the race, gender, religion, and ideology of both the victim and the perpetrator—and if the facts don’t fit their preferred narrative, the incident gets buried or twisted.
