Muslims affiliated with Boko Haram killed at least 60 in overnight attack on Nigerian village

The jihadist group Boko Haram has killed more than 60 people in an overnight attack in Nigeria’s north-eastern Borno State, local officials say.

On Friday night militants struck the village of Darul Jamal, home to a military base on the Nigeria-Cameroon border, killing at least five soldiers.

The Nigerian Air Force said it killed 30 militants in strikes after receiving reports of the raid on the village, where residents had recently returned following years of displacement.

THOMSON: NDP are going to poison their own well

The 2025 federal election for the NDP was an unmitigated disaster. They lost all but seven of their twenty-four MP’s, they lost their leader, Jagmeet Singh, and they lost official party status in Parliament. Unsatisfied with those results, the NDP will now try to reduce that number from seven MP’s to zero, or so it seems.

Having faced an extinction-level event and just barely survived, the NDP desperately needed the summer recess to reevaluate their strategy and come up with a plan to reconnect with voters, pick a new leader, and chart a course to rebuild their party.

UK: Teenagers more patriotic than their parents

British 16 and 17-year-olds are more patriotic than the public overall, but are indifferent about the monarchy, according to a new poll.

The research for The Sunday Times found that 49 per cent say they are proud of their national identity, while 10 per cent say they are ashamed, a net positive score of 39. Across the population as a whole, 45 per cent are proud while 15 per cent are ashamed, a net score of 30.

There is a stark gender divide. Almost six in ten boys (57 per cent) say they are proud to be British, compared with almost four in ten girls (39 per cent).

Canadians might be surprised at just how low U.S. tariffs on Canada’s exports really are

Economists estimate over 90% of Canadian goods are entering the U.S. tariff free, pushing down the overall rate

The average effective tariff that was being charged on Canadian goods going to the United States was possibly as low as 2.4 per cent to 2.5 per cent, two economic houses suggest.

New reports by Oxford Economics Ltd. and Capital Economics Ltd. suggest the average tariffs being charged on Canadian exports to the U.S. in June were as low as 2.4 per cent and 2.5 per cent, well off a previously forecasted rate from Capital of nine per cent for the month.

This can’t sit well with the Elbow People.

Is the zero-emission vehicle mandate dead or merely sleeping?

Mark Carney’s announcement on Friday that implementation of the federal government’s zero-emission vehicle mandate will be delayed by at least a year can be read as another retreat on climate policy from the new prime minister.

It can also be read as a small victory for Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, who had been calling on the government to abandon the policy.

That was certainly Poilievre’s own reading of events.

It’s not just Poilievre. The auto industry itself has been begging to have the ZEV cancelled entirely.

If a pause is simply a way to save face before full blown cancellation then so be it but Carney is a fanatic with many “friends” expecting to profit from the EV scam.

Chicago is a crime-ridden hellhole. It deserves a dose of Trump’s military medicine

“Chicago is the murder capital of the world,” Donald Trump declared on his Truth Social platform on Tuesday. Over the Labor Day holiday weekend alone, 58 people were shot in the city – eight of them fatally – in 37 separate incidents. Those grim statistics contribute to the total of 278 murders in the Windy City so far this year.

According to the Chicago’s mayor’s office, that should be counted as some sort of success. Yes, it’s a reduction on 2024’s even bloodier homicide figure, but it remains high enough to put the city on track to be one of the most dangerous in the United States for yet another year. Crime rates in other categories also remain high in Chicago. Motor vehicle theft rates, for example, are almost double what they were in 2019.
