CHARLEBOIS: Why liquor boards shouldn’t play tariff games

It was reported recently that Quebec’s liquor board, the SAQ, will be giving away about $300,000 worth of American alcoholic beverages that are nearing expiry. The initial plan was to discard the stock, but public pressure forced a reversal.

In a province long associated with milk dumping due to supply management, rescuing American booze from the same fate is nothing short of ironic.

Poilievre’s idea to amend Criminal Code wouldn’t help Canadians acting in self-defence, CBC law experts say

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s proposed Criminal Code amendment to strengthen legal protections for Canadians defending their homes would offer no real benefit, criminal law experts say.

His demands come in light of a 44-year-old man from Lindsay, Ont., being charged for allegedly attacking a home intruder. On Friday, Poilievre pounced on the moment to suggest amending the Criminal Code so use of force against a person who illegally enters a home and poses a threat to those inside is presumed reasonable.

But criminal law experts say Canadian law already favours homeowners in home invasion cases, so Poilievre’s idea does nothing to enhance their protection from criminal charges.

You break into someone’s home you should expect to be dead.

Turkish trans drag queens among foreign ‘talent’ handed British visas

Britain has welcomed Turkish transgender drag queens on special visas for “global talent”, The Telegraph can reveal.

The “Global Talent visa” permits recipients to stay in the UK for five years along with their dependents, and is intended to bring the very best creatives to the country.

Applicants must have their claimed artist merit endorsed by the Arts Council before visas are ultimately signed off by the Home Office.

‘Line in the sand’: Calls mount to strip Canadian restaurateur of Order of Canada over anti-Israel post

Members of the Jewish community and former parliamentarians are calling for Ontario restaurateur Mohamad Fakih to lose his Order of Canada honour after he wrote that Canadian supporters of Israel “do not have basic human values.”

“Three parties. Three regions. One shared belief: the Order of Canada must reflect the values that unite us,” reads a letter from former Progressive Conservative of Ontario MPP Lisa MacLeod, former B.C. NDP MLA and cabinet minister Selina Robinson and former Liberal MP Kevin Vuong, that was published on social media Friday afternoon.

The guy is a pretty big Liberal Donor is he not? He’ll get to keep his bauble. And really who cares? It’s so degraded it no longer holds any significance.

It’s the elite version of the participation ribbon awarded by the same people to the same people who poisoned Canada with multiculturalism, diversity, and mass immigration from incompatible cultures.

Tesla said it didn’t have key data in a fatal crash. Then a hacker found it.

Years after a Tesla driver using Autopilot plowed into a young Florida couple in 2019, crucial electronic data detailing how the fatal wreck unfolded was missing. The information was key for a wrongful death case the survivor and the victim’s family were building against Tesla, but the company said it didn’t have the data.

Then a self-described hacker, enlisted by the plaintiffs to decode the contents of a chip they recovered from the vehicle, found it while sipping a Venti-size hot chocolate at a South Florida Starbucks. Tesla later said in court that it had the data on its own servers all along.

There is a growing list of unsafe places for the Jewish community in Canada

Ottawa Hamas rally

In my family, it was always the “kosher Loblaws.” Featuring Ottawa’s only large kosher food section, the Loblaws location at College Square in the west end of the city is our destination several times per week for everything from groceries, to prescription refills, to challah bread for Shabbat. As the only such store in Ottawa, it serves as both a place to see familiar faces and a reminder of the small size of the Jewish community here.

This is a column by Michael Geist a TDS sufferer who I suspect still doesn’t regret his support for Muslim immigration and open borders in general: Never Again – A Comment on U.S. Immigration and The Need for a Canadian Response

Photo accompanying Geist column

Not once does he use the words Islam or Muslims in his column instead his focus is on a 71 year old nutter because he’s somehow the backbone of antisemitism in Canada.

Does he get that his high minded virtue signaling for Muslim immigration, his imagined moral superiority has put not just the Jewish community but all of us in danger?

How is it that university professors can be so arrogant and so stupid?

Will young Ukrainians return with borders open again?

This week, new regulations on the departure of young Ukrainian men, who might be subject to military conscription, came into force in Ukraine.

If they are under 22, they can now cross the border unhindered. “We want Ukrainians to maintain as many ties with Ukraine as possible,” Ukraine’s Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said about the rule change.

Previously men aged between 18 and 60 had not been allowed to leave Ukraine. That’s because they might eventually be drafted into the army and the grinding fight against Russia, which invaded Ukraine in 2022.

It’s Called Two Tiered Policing: After Two Years Of Complaints Police Still Can’t Catch Muskoka Gunmen

I suspect we’ll be told that Illegal firearms usage is a cultural thing protected under the charter on grounds of religious belief

WARMINGTON: Catching wild shooters in Muskoka should be as easy as shooting fish in a barrel

The MacTier shooters have showed up every weekend this summer and left behind thousands of bullet holes and spent shell casings to highlight that.

It’s something many in the Georgian Bay and Muskoka region are wondering. It would not surprise members of a local snowmobile club who have been complaining about these reckless gunmen for two years.

Police just can’t catch these guys! They must be like super criminals!

US court rules many of Trump’s global tariffs are illegal

A US appeals court has ruled that most tariffs issued by US President Donald Trump are illegal, setting up a potential legal showdown that could upend his foreign policy agenda.

The ruling affects Trump’s so-called “reciprocal” tariffs, imposed on most countries around the world, as well as other tariffs slapped on China, Mexico and Canada.

In a 7-4 decision, the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit rejected Trump’s argument that the tariffs were permitted under an emergency economic powers act, calling them “invalid as contrary to law”.

The ruling will not take effect until 14 October, to give the administration time to ask the US Supreme Court to take up the case.

Man sues grocery store after he tried to steal car, was ‘punched, kicked and hit’ by staffers

A chronic thief who was beaten up after he was caught trying to steal a car outside an inner-city grocery store is suing staff, arguing he was left with life-altering injuries.

“The amount of force used against him was far in excess of what was necessary to execute a citizen’s arrest or detain him pending the arrival of law enforcement personnel,” 36-year-old Michael Prince alleged in a statement of claim filed earlier this month by his lawyer in the Manitoba Court of King’s Bench.

Council offers support to staff who feel ‘unsettled’ by St George’s flags as it may ‘evoke feelings of discomfort’

A council has offered support to staff who feel ‘unsettled’ by St George’s flags as it may ‘evoke feelings of discomfort and be associated with anti-immigration rhetoric’.

Essex county council bosses sent out an email to workers addressing the increasing number of England flags being raised across the country as part of an online campaign called Operation Raise the Colours.

The email encouraged staff to ‘reach out’ to their managers, adding: ‘We stand firmly against all forms of racism and discrimination, and we are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for everyone.’
