China’s announcement this week of a 75.8% tariff on Canadian canola seed, effective Thursday, is not an isolated policy shift — it’s the latest escalation in a trade conflict that Ottawa itself helped set in motion.
Earlier this year, on March 20, Beijing imposed 100% tariffs on Canadian canola oil, canola meal, and peas, along with an additional 25% on lobster and pork. These measures were already weighing on our agri-food exports.

Rep. Randy Fine (R-FL) wants radical left protesters engaged in the “terrorist practice of blocking roads as a form of political speech” to face the same repercussions they do in Florida.
The freshman congressman has introduced the Reinstating Orderly Access for Drivers (ROAD) Act, but Fine simply refers to the bill as “thump thump” – the sound of a two-axeled vehicle cruising over a protestoer-sized bump.

Canada’s prohibition on U.S. alcohol is creating a headache for American liquor and winemakers.
On the shelves of many Canadian liquor stores, bottles of Jack Daniel’s, Maker’s Mark and Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum are nowhere to be found. Thousands of bottles of U.S. wine and spirits sit in storage across the country. At tastings, Canadian drinkers are turning their noses up at American alcohol.
After President Trump initiated a series of trade battles with Canada earlier this year, Canadian provinces, which largely handle alcohol imports and distribution in the country, stopped placing orders for American-made spirits, beer and wine. In liquor stores, clerks pulled U.S. brands off shelves, replacing them with Canadian products.

Russian hackers took control of a Norwegian dam this year, opening a floodgate and allowing water to flow unnoticed for four hours, Norway’s intelligence service has said.
The admission, by the Norwegian Police Security Service (PST), marks the first time that Oslo has formally attributed the cyber-attack in April on Bremanger, western Norway, to Moscow.
The attack on the hydropower dam, which produces electricity, released 500 litres (132 gallons) of water a second for four hours until the incident was detected and stopped.

The introduction by a council of a so-called “fat tax” for wider burial plots at one of its cemeteries has been criticised by residents and a funeral director.
At Danescourt cemetery in Tettenhall, Wolverhampton, it will cost families £2,700 if they need to buy a 6ft wide plot, a 20% increase on the cost of a standard 5ft grave.
Funeral director Ross Hickton said the decision was “not really acceptable or fair” and labelled it a “fat tax”.

The number of violent incidents in Ontario’s classrooms has skyrocketed in recent years, according to new data obtained by Global News, leading to calls for the Ford government to spend more on the education system.
Years’ worth of data shows the level of violence reported by school boards to the Ministry of Education has risen by 77 per cent since the Progressive Conservatives took office, with more than 4,400 incidents reported in the 2023-24 year alone.
Hmmm … Peel and the TDSB report the highest levels of violent incidents.
No doubt these are acts of rebellion against colonial repression, slavery and the White man’s racism.
Or it could be the result of bad parenting, the mass import of unsuitable cultures and or other causes that will never be discussed because it’s easier to make shit up rather than face the harsh consequences of population replacement.

Authorities arrested 56 people and seized 3,500 birds, as well as firearms and drug paraphernalia, during a multi-week cockfighting investigation in San Bernardino County, officials said.
The operation, dubbed “Crowing Rooster,” ran from June 14 to Aug. 1 and entailed 26 search warrants served at locations throughout the county, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
Sic them on their captors.

Mississauga obtains court injunction to crack down nuisance gatherings at Ridgeway Plaza
The City of Mississauga has obtained a temporary court injunction in an attempt to crack down on a problem spot at a west-end plaza.
The injunction, which was granted on August 13, orders the condominium corporations that own Ridgeway Plaza to do what it can to prohibit nuisance gatherings at the plaza, which has been the scene of fights, street racing, loud music, and illegal fireworks, which have attracted crowds of more than 3,000 people.
The condo corporations and business owners are required under the order to install parking gate arms/barriers, employ sufficient security and paid duty officers to control and regulate pedestrian and vehicular traffic, and control or prohibit any pedestrian or vehicular traffic in the parking lot that may lead to nuisance gatherings.

First Lady Melania Trump has threatened to sue Hunter Biden for more than $1bn after he claimed she was introduced to her husband by sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Lawyers acting on behalf of the first lady, who married US President Donald Trump in 2005, described the claim as “false, disparaging, defamatory and inflammatory”.
Biden, son of former US President Joe Biden, made the comments during an interview earlier this month, in which he strongly criticised the president’s former ties to Epstein.
Update: Hunter Biden delivers profane 2-word response to Melania’s whopping $1B defamation threat over Epstein remarks

Prime Minister Mark Carney has seen a whirlwind of activity in his first few months in the role, from dealing with U.S. President Donald Trump to announcing huge spending increases for the military, as well as implementing tax cuts and passing legislation to expedite the construction of major projects, while fielding criticism from Opposition and some provinces for maintaining some of the energy-related legislation.
Here’s a look at some of the most important happenings since Carney’s April 28 election victory.
Interesting comments on CUSMA. Makes sense if Carney’s goal is to strip mine Canada for his WEF buddies, a theory looking more substantial every day.
