Political slogans can create a powerful movement, that can also backfire. Mark Carney be warned

Carney speaks at a Muslim Brotherhood function

In today’s political landscape, policies and politics alike are increasingly shaped and simplified by slogans. Prime Minister Mark Carney has introduced “Build, Baby, Build” as a rallying cry for his government’s infrastructure agenda, signalling urgency and determination.

While Carney is relatively new to the art of sloganeering, his adoption of this catchier vernacular shows an understanding of how powerfully these formulas land in modern politics.

AI Is Wrecking an Already Fragile Job Market for College Graduates

What do you hire a 22-year-old college graduate for these days?

For a growing number of bosses, the answer is not much—AI can do the work instead.

At Chicago recruiting firm Hirewell, marketing agency clients have all but stopped requesting entry-level staff—young grads once in high demand but whose work is now a “home run” for AI, the firm’s chief growth officer said. Dating app Grindr is hiring more seasoned engineers, forgoing some junior coders straight out of school, and CEO George Arison said companies are “going to need less and less people at the bottom.”

Bill Balderaz, CEO of Columbus-based consulting firm Futurety, said he decided not to hire a summer intern this year, opting to run social-media copy through ChatGPT instead.

Trump’s Golden Dome missile-defence push on Canada leaves Ottawa with few good options

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. President Donald Trump wants a Golden Dome of missile defence over the United States, and if you’re thinking this sounds familiar, you’d be right. Back in the 1980s, Ronald Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative, aka Star Wars, also aimed to develop a space-based and layered defence system to knock out any incoming strikes.

It didn’t work out.

Jamie Lee Curtis, a ‘Gender Affirming‘ Surgery Proponent Accuses Cosmetic Surgery Industry of ‘Genocide‘ Against Women

Jamie Lee Curtis and wierdo son

Jamie Lee Curtis, a “gender affirming” surgery proponent, is accusing the cosmetic surgery industry of committing “genocide” against women, hitting back against the trend that has turned so many into the garden variety influencer-esque woman loaded with lip filler. “Generations of women have been disfigured,” the actress said.

“I’ve been very vocal about the genocide of a generation of women by the cosmeceutical industrial complex, who’ve disfigured themselves,” Curtis told the Guardian in a recent interview for which she wore a pair of fake, obnoxiously large lips on the cover in order to drive her point home.

Stephen Harper says he advised Mark Carney’s government to move away from the U.S.

Speaking before a room full of policymakers from midwestern Canada and the United States, former prime minister Stephen Harper said the ongoing trade war with the U.S. is a “wake-up call” for Canada to diversify its trade and export markets.

“I was — I think it’s fair to say — probably the most pro-American prime minister in Canadian history,” Harper said of his tenure from 2006 to 2015.

If the current government asked him a year ago for advice on U.S. President Donald Trump being re-elected and wanting to renegotiate trade, he says he would have thought it was a real opportunity for Canada to deepen its economic and security partnership with the United States.

Police officers ‘also abused’ Rotherham victims

Five women who were exploited by grooming gangs in Rotherham as children say they were also abused by police officers in the town at the time.

One says she was raped from the age of 12 by a serving South Yorkshire Police (SYP) officer in a marked police car. He would threaten to hand her back to the gang if she did not comply, she says.

“In a world where you were being abused so much, being raped once [by a police officer] was a lot easier than multiple rapes [by the gang] and I think he knew that,” she tells the BBC.

Wife of Tamil Tiger terror group ‘member’ backed by public safety minister does not live in his riding: documents

Lying Liberal DEI MP

Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree’s claim that he was helping a constituent when he lobbied federal officials to let a terrorist group “member” resettle in Canada is contradicted by documents on the case, a Global News investigation has found.

In defending letters he wrote before he joined cabinet that urged border security officials to approve the immigration application of a suspected member of the Tamil Tigers, Anandasangaree has said he assisted the man’s Canadian wife as an MP.

Cat’s and hearing aids

X has a great desire to bat my Rexton Reach hearing aids around. I think he resents that I can now hear his out of sight escapades.

While it’s only been a few days the aids are becoming a welcome part of my routine, they pair easily with my phone.

They fit the ear well and I am told have a robust design so that perilously thin wire that connects the ear bud to the aid body could tow a trailer.

Still experimenting with balance and sound levels though the default set up is pretty good.

Sound level, directional hearing and balance are easily controlled through the Rexton app.

My risk of being run over by a truck is lower as I now can hear them coming again.

The only drawback so far is that no equivalent of a windsock exists so in a stiff breeze you get that irritating crackling wind whoosh. 1st world problem I know.

I barely notice them otherwise as they sit well on the ear without need for adjustment once placed.

I am still hoping to reduce the “tinniness” of my own voice, some of that comes with time, some just from finding that volume/balance sweet-spot and ear bud placement.

At any rate it is not that big a deal as it’s minor and only a sometimes thing.

As it stands I am manually adjusting volume settings etc. from the default each morning when I put the aids in.

However once I find something I like the “Rexton Assist Robot” can make it an automatic setting always with a discard option.

Oh and Mask Mode is a ray gun setting that allows you to fry anyone wearing a mask.

Kidding.

It just helps un-mumble mask wearers.

So far so good.  I am happy with the aids so far.

Almost 600 foreign nationals with criminal records due to be deported are missing, CBSA says

Canadian border agents are trying to track down almost 600 foreigners with criminal records who are due to be deported but have gone missing – 431 of whom have been found guilty of serious crimes such as sexual assault.

Figures from the Canada Border Services Agency show that 1,635 foreign nationals guilty of committing crimes in Canada are currently facing deportation, but 599 of them have failed to attend deportation proceedings and have been placed on the agency’s “wanted” list.

Of those 599, 315 have been evading deportation for more than three years. Another 46, according to CBSA figures obtained by The Globe and Mail, have been evading the authorities for more than two years.

Why weren’t they in Jail until deported? Polar Bear Alcatraz anyone?
