A protester in Nantes was being treated on Monday after reportedly having his hand blown off by a stun grenade amid the largest May Day protests in 30 years.
The incident occurred in an atmosphere described as “electric” in several big cities, including Paris, Lyon and Nantes, where protesters threw stones and set fire to the local council building. Police riposted with tear gas, stun grenades and riot guns.
