Why Do 1,000 Refugees Get Free Wimbledon Tickets While Long Suffering Locals Get None?

Glancing upwards only to spot a drone hovering over their gardens last week was the last straw for residents of Welford Place SW19, whose homes overlook the much lauded All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC). While the eye in the sky probably belongs to an accredited broadcaster scouting out local colour ahead of the annual championships, the intrusion felt all too typical of the approach that the Wimbledon high command itself takes to its near neighbours. The annual championships may charm a world audience with its cultivated celebration of grass court tennis, strawberries and a nostalgic evocation of English fair play, but for neighbours this image, as carefully manicured as its famous lawns, is virtually shredded. From a highly controversial planning application to a woke offer of 1,000 free tickets for refugees, local Wimbledonians feel excluded as never before from the international spectacle on their doorsteps.

Tasha Kheiriddin: Carney will have no choice but to kill supply management

For a while there, things were going so well. Prime Minister Mark Carney — aka “the Trump whisperer” — had morphed from critic to texting buddy of the U.S. President. Over the past three months, Carney had been chatting with Donald Trump, building backchannel goodwill. After the successful G7 summit in Kananaskis, Alta., hopes were high that Ottawa would strike a deal with Washington in 30 days, and that the rhetoric of making us the “51st state” had finally been retired.

Until last Friday, when everything fell apart.

Silencing the Opposition: Germany’s SPD Approves Plan To Ban AfD

Germany’s ruling Social Democrats have launched a push to ban the AfD, the country’s main opposition party and the second most popular in February’s election. The move follows a key resolution passed at the SPD’s party congress in Berlin on Sunday, which calls for setting up a legal task force to lay the groundwork for the ban.

What looks like just another attack on the so-called “far right” actually reveals a troubling trend in German politics: parts of the establishment are trying to rewrite the rules of democracy when a political party—backed by millions—dares to stand up to them.

ROBSON: Foreign terror threat blind spot is Canada’s gift to our enemies

Canada is dangerously unprepared to identify and counter foreign extremist threats operating just outside — or increasingly within — our borders.

As Western allies sharpen their legal tools to confront modern paramilitary networks, Canada remains behind. For example, a bipartisan bill introduced June 23 in the U.S. House of Representatives calls for the designation of the Polisario Front as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO,) citing its alleged ties to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hezbollah, and the PKK. That debate may seem uniquely American — but the question it raises is not.

Can Canada Offset Trump’s Tariff War With More Domestic Trade?

Prime Minister Mark Carney will meet his pledge to eliminate the country’s internal trade barriers by July 1. But economists say it’s not a substitute for lost U.S. trade.

When Mark Carney became Canada’s prime minister in the spring, he offered a seemingly simple and obvious answer to the economic threat posed by President Trump’s tariffs on Canadian exports: Trade more within Canada.

To that end, Mr. Carney, the leader of the Liberal Party, promised to eliminate rules and laws that stifle the movement of goods and many workers inside the country by July 1, Canada Day, after decades of national hand-wringing over the issue.

Kill Trump if he threatens the Ayatollah, says new fatwa

Donald Trump and anyone else who threatens to kill Iran’s supreme leader are “waging war against God” and should be punished by death, according to a new religious fatwa.

Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi said “any person or regime that threatens the leadership and religious authority” is considered a “mohareb” – one who wages war against God – under Islamic law.

The cleric, speaking in Iran, declared that any co-operation with such individuals or regimes by Muslims or Islamic governments was religiously forbidden and the crime punishable by death.

Why some Canadians are choosing Trump over their country … or… Ignore my TDS brainwashed daughter

His immigration rhetoric and nationalism are luring some “far-right” conservatives in Canada.

While getting my Ontario driver’s license in 2023, I was asked to write a description of the vehicle and then wait in my car for the examiner to find me. I had to use my mother’s car, so, red-faced, I wrote “Chevy SUV, ‘WWG1WGA’ bumper sticker.” The acronym stood for “Where We Go One, We Go All,” the far-right, QAnon-inspired slogan that became a battle cry of the Jan. 6, 2021, riots.

In mainstream Canada, these slogans were virtually unheard of, and the examiner didn’t seem to notice the sticker’s connotations. My mother and other conservative pro-Donald Trump Canadians, however, were parroting these slogans from online conspiracy-fueled echo chambers and what they saw as enviable nationalism. With a brewing trade war between the United States and Canada, pro-Trump Canadians, like my family, are now being forced to choose between the president or their country — and, disturbingly, some are choosing Trump. In his latest volley, the president on Friday abruptly ended trade talks with Canada, saying he would issue new tariffs soon.

Jamie Sarkonak: Canadians right to favour melting pot model of assimilation

Below the swell of goose-vs-eagle elbows-up patriotism that continues to gush through the nation lies an undercurrent of worry: half of Canadians feel that we’re losing a collective sense of what it means to be Canadian.

The finding was made by a new Postmedia-Leger poll released in advance of Canada Day, which asked respondents whether they feel, in the last four to five years, that “Canada has been losing a shared, collective identity of what it means to be Canadian.” Fifty-two per cent of replies were “yes,” while only 30 per cent were “no.”

In eastern Germany, youths embrace nationalism, extremism

Right-wing extremism and racism have spread significantly in the city of Dessau, in the eastern German state of Saxony-Anhalt. This has also become visible as graffiti: swastikas, pro-Hitler images and Nazi slogans are a common sight on the streets.

It’s become a trend across cities and regions in Germany — especially in the east. Holger Münch, head of the Federal Criminal Police Office, warned in May that authorities have increasingly seen a “radicalization of very young people with far-right views,” some of whom are organizing to “commit serious crimes.”

DW manufactures state propaganda.

The German establishment are so panicked by the success of the AfD they have begun arresting people for insulting politicians.

The Great Replacement will have great consequences.

Zohran Mamdani’s selective scrutiny

He doesn’t treat his religion or community with the scrutiny he reserves for others

Within weeks of launching his campaign to be mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani declared that he was also running to be the first South Asian mayor. He began aggressively courting this demographic, which accounts for around five percent of the city’s population, as well as the seizable total Asian population of almost 15 percent.

Mamdani reached out to the desi community with the help of the Indian subcontinent’s great unifier, Bollywood. The Hindi film industry that even those who don’t speak the language in South Asia can relate to. He used a 1980 Bollywood song “Meri Umar Ke Naujawano”, roughly translating to “my fellow youngsters”, to explain the NYC’s ranked choice voting system using popular desi drink, the lassi, as prop.

‘Obliterating’ Iran’s Nuclear Sites Is Not Enough

The United States and Israel have, according to reliable sources, “obliterated” or “severely damaged” Iran’s nuclear installations, but so long as the regime and its terror proxies continue to exist, the mission remains unaccomplished.

“The conventional army loses if it does not win. The guerrilla wins if he does not lose,” Henry Kissinger observed in 1969.

The continuing rule of Iran and its terror proxies remains a major threat to security and stability in the Middle East. Let us not forget that their main goal is to destroy not only Israel (the “Little Satan”), but also the US (the “Great Satan”).
