Ontario Turf Wars: Why Police Are Cracking Down on Violence in Towing Industry

Toronto-area police have been working to dismantle a push by organized crime groups to take control of the local tow truck industry, leading to multiple arrests and hundreds of charges laid this month.

The Toronto Police Service this week announced the arrests of 20 suspects linked to a group known as “The Union,” an alleged crime syndicate suspected of engaging in criminal activities and violence to gain control over the towing industry.

The announcement comes two days after a separate investigation by the Peel Regional Police resulted in the arrests of 18 people linked to a suspected tow truck organized crime group engaged in violent extortions and insurance fraud schemes.

How woke doomed Dems on the border

Any restriction was forbidden

The Biden-era explosion in illegal immigration was a direct consequence of Peak Woke: Democrats, overly responsive to fringe activists, advocated for loosening immigration restrictions to avoid cancel-culture mobs and countersignal Donald Trump. Now, amid Trump’s historic crackdown, it feels like the fever is broken. Weeks before Kamala Harris’s loss, a massive Economist survey of data found censorship attempts were declining and “woke” language had dropped in print and broadcast media. In tandem, the politics of immigration shifted sharply to the Right.

It just goes to show that the Biden-era policies dogging the country now were shaped by a sort of temporary insanity, where even moderate Democrats abandoned long-held beliefs to avoid charges of bigotry or associations with Trumpism.

Burlington Vermont Renames Church Street to Canada Street in Anti-Trump Snub

Woke Vermonters attempt to entice Canadians with a feeble overture meant to whitewash years of poor, Marxist management that increased crime and decreased economic vitality.

In a virtue-signaling display of institutional Trump Derangement Syndrome, the city of Burlington, Vermont, passed a resolution to spend $3,000 to rename its main shopping corridor from Church Street to Canada Street. The silly effort is premised on the goal of attracting more shoppers to the progressive Gotham’s dying commercial sector in a spiteful swipe at President Trump. Burlington is cutting off its nose on its path to self-destruction.

CRIME SHOWDOWN: Fed-up cities (not Toronto) cracking down

Summers in the big cities of North America have traditionally been sweat-soaked bloodbaths – particularly among the young.

Hot weather, booze, youthful exuberance and white-hot tempers contribute to busy days for the coroner.

Chicago, London and Montreal are all trying to enact measures aimed at tempering summer crime waves.

Toronto? Not so much.

Gavin Newsom Sipped Cabernet While Los Angeles Burned

As riots engulfed Los Angeles and mobs vandalized public buildings, incinerated vehicles, and assaulted law enforcement officers, California governor Gavin Newsom was enjoying a swanky wine-tasting party in Napa Valley.

The wine-tasting was held on the afternoon of June 7, 2025, at the Odette Estate Winery, which Newsom co-founded in 2011. Dubbed “Vineyard Vibes,” the event was a fundraiser for the PlumpJack Foundation, founded by Newsom’s sister, and featured “contemporary yet sophisticated” wines, live jazz music, and locally made pizza and smash burgers. “It’s the perfect kick-off to summer fun,” read promotional language. “The fete will take place on the Winery Crushpad, where we’ll gather for music, food, conversation, and delicious wine!”

How Canada’s dairy cartel keeps fumbling our foreign trade negotiations

As Canada is actively trying to expand its trade with the non-U.S. world, Parliament has just entrenched the one thing that has scuppered more trade negotiations than anything else.

This week, the first bill passed by the 45th Parliament ended up being a Bloc Québécois-championed proposal to shield the Canadian supply management system from any foreign trade negotiations.

Iran’s supreme leader mocked mercilessly after bizarre social media posts resurface

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is being mocked mercilessly over a slew of bizarre social media posts that resurfaced as the Israel-Iran war broke out — including his musings about treating a woman right and even being “naughty & playful” as a school kid.

The odd posts — most of which are typed out in SMS-style abbreviations — date back at least a decade and are in stark contrast to the anti-Israel and war rhetoric that now fills the social media feed of the 86-year-old leader and most senior cleric in the extremist Islamic Republic.

CHARLEBOIS: The fall of artificial colours in food

This week, General Mills announced it will remove all artificial colours from its U.S. products, just hours after Kraft Heinz made a similar commitment. Both companies are giving themselves two years to complete the transition — a realistic timeline, given that reformulating food products can be as complex as redesigning a vehicle. It typically takes two to three years to test, approve and scale up new ingredients.

Foreign ministry criticizes CBC for changing Taiwan reference from country to ‘self-ruled island’

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday criticized CBC News for changing its description of Taiwan from a country to a “self-ruled island.”

On June 14, Canada’s largest news broadcaster posted an article on the alleged ties between Bliss and Wisdom, a Buddhist group with operations on Prince Edward Island, and the CCP. The piece originally described a high-ranking monk from Taiwan as traveling “between his home country, Prince Edward Island, and China” in 2023 at the invitation of a Buddhist group that reports to the United Front Work Department.
