How likely is regime change in Iran now?

The Israeli hope is for ordinary Iranians to rise up against a regime in disarray and free the Iranian people once and for all

The clue is in the name of Israel’s operation. “Operation Rising Lion” is a direct reference to the Pahlavi flag which shows a lion standing proud against the backdrop of a glowing orb, the sun. In Persian this is called the “Shir-e Khorshid.” For many years now, Netanyahu has sought to speak directly to Iranians, attempting to transcend the Islamic Republic, and to present himself as the savior of the Iranian people. These ongoing strikes are simply a continuation of this policy, and Israel’s determination to avoid civilian casualties (something we’ve not seen in Gaza) feeds into its desire for an anti-regime uprising caused by elite splits and popular rage.

Wishful thinking? Iranians are likely gun-shy. Obama turned a blind eye to previous anti-regime efforts.

Why more Canadians are landing in emergency departments with cannabis-induced vomiting

The commercialization of cannabis and higher potency of THC is driving increases in cannabis hyperemesis syndrome, research suggests

Emergency departments are seeing a spike in visits owing to a once unusual, highly unpleasant and, in rare cases, potentially life-threatening side effect of chronic cannabis use: severe bouts of vomiting lasting hours, even days.

As pot becomes more potent and more convenient to purchase, emergency doctors are reporting more cases of cannabis hyperemesis syndrome, or CHS, a gastrointestinal condition that can affect people who use cannabis frequently (several times a week, if not daily) over months or years.

Vance Warns Trump May ‘Take Further Action To End Iranian Enrichment’

The Trump administration has begun sending warning flares to Iran that might equal some in Tehran’s skyline these days about their future if they do not give up their nuclear ambitions. First, Donald Trump himself took a cease-fire off the table while Iran refuses to concede. Now J.D. Vance has followed that up with a stark warning of American intervention.

Social media now main source of news in US, research suggests

Social media and video networks have become the main source of news in the US, overtaking traditional TV channels and news websites, research suggests.

More than half (54%) of people get news from networks like Facebook, X and YouTube – overtaking TV (50%) and news sites and apps (48%), according to the Reuters Institute.

“The rise of social media and personality-based news is not unique to the United States, but changes seem to be happening faster – and with more impact – than in other countries,” a report found.

Lucky Us: Interview With TDS Infected Prof Fearing Imminent, Absolutely, No Doubts About It, This Time Fer Sure US Fascism Who Fled to Canada

You are Hitler – Fess Up!

Why a professor of fascism left the US: ‘The lesson of 1933 is – you get out’

She finds the whole idea absurd. To Prof Marci Shore, the notion that the Guardian, or anyone else, should want to interview her about the future of the US is ridiculous. She’s an academic specialising in the history and culture of eastern Europe and describes herself as a “Slavicist”, yet here she is, suddenly besieged by international journalists keen to ask about the country in which she insists she has no expertise: her own. “It’s kind of baffling,” she says.

In fact, the explanation is simple enough. Last month, Shore, together with her husband and fellow scholar of European history, Timothy Snyder, and the academic Jason Stanley, made news around the world when they announced that they were moving from Yale University in the US to the University of Toronto in Canada. It was not the move itself so much as their motive that garnered attention. As the headline of a short video op-ed the trio made for the New York Times put it, “We Study Fascism, and We’re Leaving the US”.

As if U of T’s reputation hasn’t suffered enough being a prime training ground for latter day Storm Troopers.

Kash Patel Drops 2020 Election Interference Evidence Bombshell

FBI Director Kash Patel dropped a bombshell Monday evening, handing Congress an intelligence report that raises serious questions about China’s role in the 2020 election. According to the report, Chinese operatives mass-produced counterfeit U.S. driver’s licenses as part of a broader scheme to flood the system with fake mail-in ballots—benefiting… you guessed it… Joe Biden.

WARMINGTON: TPS chasing stolen Rolls-Royce and suspect jumping from Gardiner not movie

That was not a Gone in 60 Seconds movie being filmed in Toronto overnight.

But with a pursuit on the Don Valley Parkway and an alleged car robber jumping from the Gardiner Expressway to try to get away, it sure looked like it.

After Decades of Atrophy, Canada Vows to Beef Up Its Military. Can It Deliver?

To help shift the country away from its dependence on the United States, Canada’s prime minister plans to spend billions to revitalize its military and meet a NATO spending goal.

At the end of World War II, Canada boasted one of the world’s largest navies, with 95,000 uniformed members and 434 ships.

The current Royal Canadian Navy is far less impressive — about 11,500 members and 40 vessels.

Only one of its four diesel submarines, which were bought secondhand from Britain in the 1990s, is operational. And Canada’s armed forces as a whole are about 16,000 people short of an approved head count of 101,500, including reserves.

Nope.

Young people are taking out loans to buy pizzas

The film of Michael Lewis’s book The Big Short is a magnificent piece of storytelling that made the 2008 financial crash comprehensible.

In the movie, a renegade hedge fund boss discovers that the financial system contains an unexploded bomb. Huge amounts of poorly secured credit are floating around that are far riskier than the holders realise, or want to admit.

It’s a collective hallucination of trust, and he bets that it must eventually collapse.

The stars are aligned: now Canada must deliver on its natural resources

For too long, Canada has been a modest contributor on the global economic stage. But modesty is no longer a virtue in a world demanding bold leadership. While on the campaign trail, Prime Minister Mark Carney promised to make Canada both the strongest economy in the G7 and an energy superpower. That ambitious goal is not only necessary, it is also within reach—if we are willing to unleash the full potential of Canada’s natural resources sector, including responsibly expanding our energy and critical minerals industries.

Not if Net-Zero Carney has his way.

‘Gents’ is an unacceptable term in modern workplace, judge says

A female employee who sued an insurance company for discrimination still lost her case — as her boss was guilty of incompetence rather than sexism

A judge has branded the word “gents” as “old-fashioned”, describing the term as unsuitable for the modern workplace.

Dawn Shotter said the shortening of “gentlemen” — often used to describe men’s lavatories — was inappropriate in a ruling involving a claim against one of the Britain’s biggest insurance companies.

A female employee at Royal & Sun Alliance sued for sex discrimination after she was included in group emails from her boss that was addressed to “gents”.

Trump, Carney Agree to Reach Deal Within 30 Days

BANFF, Alta.—Prime Minister Mark Carney and U.S. President Donald Trump have committed to reaching a deal within 30 days, following a meeting on the first day of the G7 leaders’ summit in Kananaskis, Alta.

The new commitment came during discussions on a new economic and security relationship between both countries, along with talks on trade pressures and each side’s priorities, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a readout of the June 16 meeting.

Trump left rendering the G7 meaningless.

Paris Train Staff Fine Teen Pilgrim Singing Hymn—But Ignore Football Rioters

On returning from the pilgrimage to Chartres on Whit Monday last week, a young pilgrim was fined for ‘disturbing the peace’ because he was singing with his friends in the corridors of a Paris train station. A few days after the chaos caused by supporters of the Paris Saint-Germain football team, the sentence seems somewhat disproportionate. The reason is simple: when imposing fines, the transport authorities deliberately target passengers who are convenient for them—who are obviously not the real troublemakers.
