30 MPs accepted $230K in free travel last year, mostly for trips to Taiwan

Members of Parliament accepted more than $230,000 in flights, hotels and gifts from foreign governments, advocacy groups and private companies last year according to an annual report from the conflict of interest and ethics commissioner.

Konrad von Finckenstein’s report on the sponsored travel accepted by MPs for 2024 reveals that 30 MPs accepted trips to locations around the world including Colombia, the Ivory Coast, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, France and Germany.

But more than half of the $230,000 in travel accepted by federal legislators was paid for by Taiwan, which spent just over $126,000 bringing MPs to their country.

Pierre Poilievre can’t ‘Bring It Home,’ alone

When the Conservative party adopted the slogan “Bring it Home,” it was a catchy phrase reportedly inspired by Leader Pierre Poilievre’s wife. It signalled a return to fundamentals, to a familiar place of security and prosperity. It’s now clear that the promise of bringing it home has not fully materialized.

Despite the slogan’s apparent simplicity, it was so diluted by multiple meanings that it took a four-minute video from Pierre Poilievre to explain what it actually meant. One of those meanings has become even more relevant now that the party has failed to form the government and its leader has lost his seat: “You know, when a sportscaster is broadcasting a game and the home team is up two points and there’s five minutes left, they might say ‘they’re up two but can they bring it home?’ So it really means getting it done.”

Always take Star advice to conservatives with a truck load of salt.

SCOTUS Sides With Trump, Revokes Protected Status for Half a Million Aliens

The U.S. Supreme Court has just ruled to allow the Trump administration to move forward with revoking the protected status of over 500,000 illegal aliens.

The ruling, according to Fox News, was issued Friday, and rightly upholds — for now — the executive branch’s ability to revoke unconstitutional protected status for illegal aliens. Radical Justices Ketanji Brown Jackson and Sonia Sotomayor reportedly dissented.

Frankie Champers: We need to build new ways to avoid military spending

Canada rethinks military spending as Trump turns up the pressure

OTTAWA — Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne is signaling a bold shift in Canadian defense spending — one where the military is a national priority.

“We need to rebuild our armed forces. We need to rebuild infrastructure. We need to build new defense systems, but we need to do that where we support Canadian industry, Canadian workers and Canadian autonomy,” Champagne told POLITICO in a wide-ranging interview in his 18th-floor corner office.

US Border Towns Are Being Ravaged by Canada’s Furious Boycott

Canada’s boycott of all things American has caused the US measurable pain. Airline bookings from Canada to its southern neighbor have dipped significantly from last year, and the Federal Reserve’s latest snapshot of the US economy noted widespread declines in Canadian spending.

But few places in the US are hurting more than the border towns of Washington state, where local economies are almost entirely dependent on the other side. “We do not survive without Canada. We just don’t,” Ali Hayton, owner of the main grocery store in Point Roberts, Washington, said at a roundtable meeting about the crisis on April 24.

I took a (very quiet) flight in the first certified electric plane

We are sitting at the end of the runway waiting for clearance to depart from the air traffic control tower. Permission granted, Adam Twidell pushes some buttons, and the propeller starts to spin.

Twidell is a former RAF pilot and today he is at the rather cramped controls of a Pipistrel Velis Electro, the world’s first type-certified electric aircraft.

Hamas wanted Kamala Harris to be president, a freed Israeli hostage has claimed.

Omer Shem Tov, has said his captors had hoped the Democrat would win the election and credits Donald Trump for helping to secure his freedom.

Trudeau flunkies halted active CSIS operation in 2022 putting team at risk, watchdog says

A federal watchdog agency says an active overseas clandestine spy service operation was abruptly halted by a top adviser to former prime minister Justin Trudeau, a decision it says needlessly put CSIS officers in danger.

In a report released Thursday, the National Security and Intelligence Review Agency, or NSIRA, said it had investigated a 2022 Canadian Security Intelligence Service operation that was suspended before later being authorized to proceed.

I’m guessing Beijing or some other ne’er do well nation got in touch with Junior.

Students or spies? The young Chinese caught in Trump’s crosshairs

Xiao Chen turned up at the US Consulate in Shanghai on Thursday morning, hours after Washington announced that it would “aggressively” revoke the visas of Chinese students.

The 22-year-old had a visa appointment: she was headed to Michigan in the autumn to study communications.

After a “pleasant” conversation, she was told her application had been rejected. She was not given a reason.

She doesn’t have to be given a reason she is foreign national from a hostile nation.

Why is sovereign nation status only allowed when it advances a left wing agenda?

Most Canadians want feds to focus on gun crime, not confiscation: Poll

OTTAWA — As Canada continues to battle high crime rates, most Canadians want the federal government to focus on criminals rather than law-abiding firearms owners, according to a survey.

In a Leger survey commissioned by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, 55% of those polled say Canadian gun policy should focus on introducing tougher measures to stop illegal firearms from being smuggled into Canada from the United States.

Pickering boy, 13, in custody after ‘sadistic’ random slaying of elderly woman

A 13-year-old boy is in custody and a shelter-in-place has been lifted in north Pickering after what police believe was a “sadistic and cowardly” random slaying of an elderly woman.

The Durham Regional Police tactical support unit made the arrest Thursday evening “without incident” and cops said charges are pending after an hours-long manhunt in the Fairport Rd.-Lynn Heights Dr. area, north of Finch Ave., where officers had been called at about 3 p.m. to respond to an unknown trouble call.

Note the perp’s identity is unsubstantiated at this time, the “internet” is saying he has been peer identified on social media.

I suspect this whole episode will be hushed up, just like the authorities denied the Danforth shooter’s motive was Islamist Jihad.
