Canada doesn’t have a gun-control problem. And Mark Carney should stop pretending it does.
We do have a problem with gun crime, particularly in some of our larger cities. And we also have a problem with intimate-partner violence. These problems need attention and, critically, more resources. What they don’t need is more gun-control laws: everything that should be illegal already is, often several times over.

So, Ed Miliband has relented, and decided that after all it is not a good idea to build his green energy revolution on the back of slave labour in the Uighur region of China. Miliband had refused to back a Lords amendment to the Great British Energy Bill, first reported by Steerpike, which would have forced the putative government-owned green energy company to address the use of slave labour in its supply chains – Labour MPs were ordered to vote against it. Now the Energy and Climate Change Secretary has produced his own amendment to much the same effect.
CBS News entered a new period of turmoil on Tuesday after the executive producer of “60 Minutes,” Bill Owens, said that he would resign from the long-running Sunday news program because he had lost his journalistic independence.
In an extraordinary declaration, Mr. Owens — only the third person to run the program in its 57-year history — told his staff in a memo that “over the past months, it has become clear that I would not be allowed to run the show as I have always run it, to make independent decisions based on what was right for ‘60 Minutes,’ right for the audience.”

Their only crime was being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Is there any political schtick more tedious now than comparing President Trump to Hitler? Politico posted an article noting Al Gore did this at a Climate Week event in San Francisco, and Real Clear Politics co-founder Tom Bevan tweeted with a smirk, “Gore says the same thing Democrats have been saying for a decade.”
The Democrats campaigned heavily in 2024 claiming Trump represented an end to democracy, and they lost the election. But it hasn’t slowed them down in the slightest.
Canadians are exasperated with the crime, violence and drug use that has swept through their cities over the past decade. While the Liberals have promised to fix these issues should they be reelected, it is clear from their platform that they aren’t taking this file seriously.
The Trudeau government’s failures here cannot be understated. The country is awash with fentanyl and over 50,000 Canadians have lost their lives to opioids since 2016. Organized gangs are running amok and violent crime has exploded to levels unseen since the pre-Harper era, reversing what had previously been a 20-year downward trend.
David Hogg, the name synonymous with gun control theatrics, now holds a position of power as vice chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). But does he have any idea what he’s doing? His latest move suggests that the answer is a resounding “no.” Instead of building the party, Hogg decided to launch a $20 million campaign to primary sitting Democrats in blue districts.
