Conrad Black: Ottawa should give CUPE the Convoy treatment and shut it down

Last week was a busy one in the increasingly intense struggle of sensible Canadians to slough off, cast down, and ultimately trample into threadbare fragments, incinerate, and scatter the ashes, of woke authoritarianism. On the positive side, Federal Judge Richard Mosley’s finding that there was inadequate justification for the imposition of the Emergencies Act against the trans-Canada truckers protest in February 2022, was a stirring resurrection of the official recognition of the liberties of the citizen against the capricious and heavy-handed whims of the state. The judge contradicted Appeal Court Justice Paul Rouleau’s finding in the inquiry that the Emergencies Act requires in the event of its imposition, that conditions created by the actions of the truckers justified the use of the draconian legislation. Justice Mosley wasn’t so declarative on the legality of recourse to the Emergencies Act as he was in his finding that it was unjustified: it did not meet the Canadian Security and Intelligence Service’s definition of a “threat to the security of Canada,” and the government could not just fabricate its own criteria.

Israel’s War on Hamas is the Least Deadly War in the Region

The Associated Press recently made headlines by falsely claiming that the Israeli campaign against Hamas “sits among the deadliest and most destructive in recent history” and was even worse than “the Allied bombing of Germany in World War II”.

The Washington Post argued that “Israel has waged one of this century’s most destructive wars in Gaza” while The Wall Street Journal contended that it was “generating destruction comparable in scale to the most devastating urban warfare in the modern record.”

CSIS director’s brief to Trudeau Cabinet says 117 Canadian Politicians warned of interference since May 2021

Last February, while Justin Trudeau pushed back against media investigations into Chinese election interference, citing anti-Asian racism, a brief for Trudeau’s Cabinet confirmed China’s clandestine influence in the 2019 and 2021 federal contests, and that current Members of Parliament were targeted in hostile state activity, and China leverages a “vast range of tools” to undermine “Canadian values, electoral processes, and Charter Rights.”

This definitive confirmation of Ottawa’s awareness of China’s deep attacks in recent Canadian elections comes from a newly released “Canadian Eyes Only” CSIS document called “Briefing to the Minister of Democratic Institutions on Foreign Interference.”

The Night They Shot Old Nando Down!

German police shoot aggressive ’emu’

Nando – free spirited illegal alien

Police in the German state of Thuringia say they shot a flightless bird after it became aggressive. Initially identified as an Australian emu, the bird appears to have been a South American wild rhea.

… The German wild population is descended from a few breeding pairs that escaped from an exotic meat farm near Lübeck, a city in northern Germany, in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Sudbury nurse launches court battle after losing job over her struggles speaking English

A nurse who failed to pass her probationary period in Sudbury largely because of her struggle to communicate in English has filed a labour grievance against her employer.

The Ontario Nurses’ Association filed the grievance motion on her behalf claiming that her firing was discriminatory and violated the Ontario Human Rights Code. In a recent decision, an arbitrator rejected efforts by Health Sciences North to dismiss the case on the basis of jurisdiction in a preliminary motion.

The nurse worked in Saudi Arabia and the Philippines before coming to Canada and working as a PSW for two years. She received her Canadian nursing credentials and worked in homecare in Sault Ste. Marie

I have dealt with nurses who barely speak English or speak in so heavily accented a manner it is near impossible to understand them.

Royal Navy aircraft carrier cancels Nato sailing after propeller issue

The departure of the Royal Navy aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth to lead the largest Nato exercise since the Cold War has been cancelled at the last minute after an “issue” with a propeller shaft was spotted during final checks.

The setback comes 18 months after sister ship HMS Prince of Wales broke down off the Isle of Wight after a similar malfunction with a coupling on the starboard propeller which meant she could not take part in exercises with the US Navy and a delay of nine months to operational service.

NHL Reveals Itself To Be On Team Hamas

WARMINGTON: Anthem singer dons pro-Palestinian attire at NHL All-Star Game

The NHL has yet to comment on how a singer wearing pro-Palestinian colours, and with a history of anti-Israel rants, performed the American national anthem at the All-Star Game in Toronto Saturday.

But that hasn’t stopped others from commenting on how American pop star Kiana Lede used the NHL game to show her support for the Palestine side of the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

I wish I could boycott the NHL but I haven’t paid attention in years.

Canada’s Ukrainian refugee crisis is about to get much worse, Gen. Rick Hillier says

Already some displaced families that came to Canada are living in tents. And another 90,000 people are expected in the next 60 days

What’s the plan?

Feb. 24 marks the second anniversary of Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine. Gen. Rick Hillier, irrepressible even in quasi-retirement, is sounding the alarm on Canada’s lack of preparedness to absorb yet more displaced Ukrainians. He’s particularly galled by stories of newcomers — at-risk families we invited to our country — living in tents in downtown Toronto.

Pushing electric vehicles is virtue-signalling and fighting the free market

The problem with government mandates aimed at manipulating free markets is they are typically based in political expediency, not commercial reality.

As more potholes appear on the road to electric-vehicle nirvana, edicts by lawmakers in Canada and states such as California and New York to require all new-car sales be EVs by 2035 are proving the point: Politically motivated virtue signals rarely withstand pressure testing from real-world market forces.

Trump Opens Largest General Election Lead Yet As Biden’s Unfavorable Rating Climbs to Record High: Poll

In a sign of how imperiled his reelection may be, President Biden — despite winning South Carolina’s Democratic primary by a landslide Saturday — is trailing President Trump by the largest margin in the history of the NBC News poll, which now shows the incumbent’s disapproval rating at a record high.

The poll shows Mr. Trump leading Mr. Biden in a general election 47 percent to 42 percent — outside of the margin of error of 3.1 percent. Mr. Trump led Mr. Biden for the first time in the NBC poll in November of last year, but that two-point lead was within the poll’s margin of error.

Amy Hamm: The gender activists are the ones spreading division

Last November, the Post ran a column by transwoman Julia Malott who allegedly supports my right to free expression but simultaneously believes that my “persona” has devolved and that I’ve become divisive and resentful. The devolution, she wrote, occurred during my three-year-and-counting legal battle with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives over my political speech on women’s rights and the binary nature of human sex.

Get a load of this melodramatic loon.

Illegal Immigration: Violence vs Votes

The left is playing the long game.

A video of New York City Police officers being assaulted by a group of illegal immigrants was making the rounds earlier this week, and it wasn’t pretty. Two of the Big Apple’s finest were shown on West 42nd Street near Times Square wrestling someone to the ground while others piled on with kicks and punches. It looked to all the world like a mob was about to form and overwhelm the officers.

Liberals say Pierre Poilievre is feeding you Rage Krispies, but they want you to eat your veggies

The Conservatives screeched triumphantly through the finish line of 2023, while the Liberals seemed to be dragging their own inert carcasses to the end. This week, everyone returned to the House of Commons after regrouping over a languorous holiday break, and the government tried to regain its footing with a new line of attack for a new year.

Everyone from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on down the roster has been advancing some form of the same argument: They, the governing Liberals, are grown-ups engaged in the heavy work of running a country in difficult times, while the opposition Conservatives are having themselves a time lobbing spitballs from the cheap seats.
