Canada takes no clear position on ICJ interim ruling in Gaza genocide case

Canada will continue to closely follow the case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said Friday following an interim ruling that ordered Israel to do all it can to prevent death, destruction and any acts of genocide in Gaza.

The ruling did not order a ceasefire. It also called on Hamas to release hostages taken in its deadly Oct. 7 attack on Israel and represents a closely watched step in a legal process that could take years to fully play out.

Germany’s new rifle ‘inaccurate in battle’

The German army’s new assault rifle is not accurate enough and cannot be relied upon to work properly in battle, according to a classified report.

The Bundeswehr was forced to lower testing standards for its G95A1 after it failed to pass trials using military-standard ammunition, said the report, which was sent to the Bundestag by Germany’s national audit office.

“Current testing by the army in laboratory conditions shows that the weapon doesn’t meet army standards when loaded with combat ammunition,” said the review, which was first revealed by Der Spiegel news magazine.

How Russia is arming itself faster than Nato

Once upon a time, the Itlamas shopping mall in Izhevsk represented the arrival of the modest middle-class dream in Russia’s provinces.

Its steel and glass facade advertised H&M, McDonalds, and Destsky Mir, Russia’s most famous chain of toy shops – symbols of the social contract Vladimir Putin cut with the Russian public more than 20 years ago.

Today, both Western and Russian brands have vanished. The Italmas Mall is now the Italmas Scientific Research Centre, producing Lancet attack drones for the war in Ukraine.

The Liberal government must stop using tax policy as a behavioural-influence tool

The current federal government has embraced an activist approach to tax policy, using it as a social engineering tool to influence behaviour and advance the Liberals’ progressive agenda. But the downsides of this interventionist strategy to our tax system are becoming increasingly apparent.

Ottawa’s approach has resulted in confounding complexity, rising compliance and administrative burdens, and a global view that Canada is not a very welcoming place to do business. We should instead pursue tax reforms that improve our business climate and make this country a more compelling destination for investment.

Lethal Exports: Why Canada is a ‘global refuge’ for Hells Angels, other crime networks

Almost eight tonnes of methamphetamine were seized by Canadian border agents in the Pacific Region last year — nearly four times all the illicit meth seizures combined from 2018 to 2022.

Despite the record finds by the Canada Border Services Agency, no one has been charged in B.C. for any of the massive loads, which were mostly destined for Australia and New Zealand and linked to transnational organized crime.

Critics say the lack of consequences is just one of the reasons B.C. — and Canada — has become a safe place to do business for some of the biggest international criminals.

Boy, 4, allowed to join Church of England school as a girl

Ministers pledge to intervene after parents claim the child’s sex was hidden from classmates, who were traumatised to learn the truth

A Church of England primary school allowed a four-year-old boy to join as a girl, The Telegraph can reveal.
The child’s sex was hidden from classmates, who were described by parents as traumatised when they found out.

One of the parents of a child who was friends with the “trans” girl, told The Telegraph that the school has “robbed” her daughter of her childhood, as she struggled to come to terms with learning her friend is not a girl and that teachers “lied” to her about it.

White Skin Privilege

A weapon of war.

On December 26, 1969, in Flint Michigan, roughly 300 college students – almost exclusively white – gathered in a run-down dance hall called the Giant Ballroom. The ballroom was located in the heart of one of Flint’s black neighborhoods, and also one of its most violent. A bullet hole in the front door marked the spot where, the night before, a disgruntled patron had fired a shotgun into the hall inadvertently killing a black customer who was there to celebrate Christmas, and was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The attendees were members or alumni of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), the largest radical movement on university campuses during the 1960s. They had come to attend the last “National Council” meeting of SDS.

Take it from a copper – two-tier policing is real

My senior colleagues are more interested in appealing to the chattering classes than in tackling crime.

Yet another senior police officer has decided to prostrate himself at the feet of identity politics. This time it’s Gavin Stephens, chair of the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC), which oversees the national collaboration between British police chiefs.

Meet Donald Trump’s ruthless campaign team

The former president’s formidable inner circle of advisers is a far cry from the chaos of 2016 and provides a counterweight to their erratic boss

The front cabin of Trump Force One, Donald Trump’s gleaming Boeing 757, has space for eight or nine advisers on its sofa and white leather chairs, with 24-carat gold-plated belt buckles, grouped around a highly polished wooden table.

Just the right amount of room for the former president and his inner circle to plan the latest moves of an election campaign that is far removed from the chaos of his 2016 run and could carry him back to the White House.

Illegal Migration Forcing U.S. Constitutional Crisis

From Eagle Pass to Lampedusa: As goes the Rio Grande, so goes the Mediterranean?

You wouldn’t know it from the lack of attention in the European and American media, but the United States is moving quickly toward a major constitutional crisis. The cause? The massive number of illegal migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, which Washington is doing virtually nothing to stop.

Since 2021, the U.S. Government has caught 6 million illegal migrants have crossing illegally into America from Mexico, which shares a border with Texas. In December alone, a record high of 302,000 migrants crossed the Rio Grande—more than the number of migrants who entered Europe illegally in all of 2023.

What are they trying to tell us? Internal Pentagon report warns America is unequipped to defend itself from an ALIEN invasion

US officials do not have the capabilities to defend America against a hypothetical alien invasion, internal Pentagon watchdogs have determined.

A newly declassified document found the Department of Defense (DoD) lacks comprehensive or coordinated effort to track and analyze UFOs – which have been rebranded Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) in recent years.

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) made the eerie conclusion that this blindspot in the DoD’s defensive capabilities ‘poses a threat to military forces and national security.’

Israel’s War With Hamas Has No End in Sight

Israel’s conflict with Hamas is set to be a long one—with both sides struggling to accomplish their fundamental aims and no clear path to any kind of enduring peace.

Israel has sworn to destroy Hamas as a significant military and political force. Hamas is committed to the long-term goal of erasing the Israeli state.

The irreconcilable stakes are existential for both. And that means that even if a cease-fire halts the current round of fighting in Gaza, the struggle between Israel and Hamas will continue.
