Smash hit Barbie came away with a glittering trove of Oscar nominations on Tuesday morning but fans claimed one thing – or maybe a pair of things – were missing.

Star Margot Robbie together with director Greta Gerwig were both snubbed by the Academy in two areas.

I have not seen Barbie and may only watch if I am up at 2 am and can’t sleep.

How a Toronto highway bridge became the centre of Middle East tensions in the city

As the conflict between Israel and Hamas continues in the Middle East, one highway overpass in Toronto has become the centre of local tension and conflict.

The Avenue Road bridge over Highway 401, located in North York, has been the site of several pro-Palestinian demonstrations and, more recently, three arrests.

The location of the bridge rallies has been blasted by Toronto Jewish groups, who allege it has been selected because it is in a neighbourhood with a significant local Jewish population.

They spoke to all 3 members of the fictional “Eglinton-Lawrence and Don Valley For Palestine”  Hamas forgivers club.

Electric cars will never dominate market, says Toyota

Electric cars will never account for more than a third of the market and consumers should not be forced to buy them, the boss of Toyota has said.

Akio Toyoda, chairman of the world’s biggest carmaker by sales, said that electric vehicles (EVs) should not be developed to the exclusion of other technologies such as the hybrid and hydrogen-powered cars that his company has focused on.

Speaking to employees in a question and answer session, Mr Toyoda called for a “multi-pathway approach”, adding: “The enemy is CO2.”

B.C., Ontario vow to crack down on diploma mill schools exploiting Trudeau’s mass immigration scam

B.C. and Ontario are vowing to crack down on private post-secondary institutions that are accused of exploiting international students, after the federal government announced Monday it will cap the number of student permits issued in the next two years.

Federal Immigration Minister Marc Miller announced the government will reduce the number of student visas by 35 per cent for 2024, stating the goal is in part to target private institutions he described as “the diploma equivalent of puppy mills.”

I don’t believe this for a minute.

A very good explanation of the housing crisis and why the Liberals can’t fix it doing what they’re doing.

Federal government’s decision to invoke Emergencies Act against convoy protests was unreasonable, court rules

A federal judge says the Liberal government’s use of the Emergencies Act in early 2022 to clear convoy protesters was unreasonable.

The case was brought forward by the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and the Canadian Constitution Foundation and individuals who argued Ottawa did not meet the legal threshold when it invoked the legislation, which had never been used before.

The two groups shared copies of the decision online.

Trudeau still got away with it.

CDU State Minister-President: It’s “Democratic” to Ban the AfD

“We must not tolerate” millions of Germans voting for the AfD, the CDU party leader said.

Daniel Guenther -CDU Communist

The comments, from the executive who has governed Germany’s northernmost state since 2017 alongside the left-liberal Green party, came during an interview with Cicero, a Berlin-based political and cultural magazine, that was published over the weekend.

A Border Wall to the North? Republicans Want to Discuss.

Former President Donald J. Trump paved a path to the presidency in 2016 by calling for a “big, beautiful wall” along the United States border with Mexico.

His 2024 rivals in the Republican primary election, scrapping for every advantage against him, looked north.

Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina, has frequently told voters that it’s not just the southern border that needs stepped-up enforcement — “it’s the northern border, too.”

The problem is us, not him, Trudeau patiently explains

It has been two months since the Prime Minister’s Office announced branding guru Max Valiquette would become executive director of communications, bringing with him his expertise in “understanding millennials and generation Z.” Early in the new year, the PMO also added broadcaster, strategist and pundit Supriya Dwivedi as a senior adviser. In a Toronto Star op-ed, Dwivedi said she signed on in hopes of tackling online misinformation that’s being algorithmically forced down our throats by “giant, for-profit, foreign companies.”

Israel-Gaza war: IDF says 24 soldiers killed in Gaza in one day

The Israeli army says 24 of its soldiers were killed in Gaza on Monday – the deadliest day for its forces since their ground operation began.

That includes 21 reservists who died in an explosion likely caused by mines that Israeli forces had placed in two buildings to demolish them, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said.

It is thought a missile fired by Palestinian armed fighters hit a tank guarding the troops just beforehand.

John Robson: The Feds’ Green Dreams Touted at WEF Are Detached From Reality

Many people are deeply worried about Canada’s weak economic performance. But in Davos for the World Economic Forum our Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said don’t worry, be happy, we’re an investment magnet because: “Canada is absolutely determined that decarbonization for us, will mean more jobs, more growth, more manufacturing and we recognize, government needs to play a role to make that happen.”

Green dreams are made of these. But what actual evidence exists for this rosy view?
