Trudeau’s Canada: Canadian food banks feel the squeeze amid holiday spike, rising year-round demand

Increasing demand for food assistance this year, coupled with a regular spike in users during the holiday season, has strained Canadian food banks this month, the directors of multiple Canadian food bank associations say.

“Christmas is always a busy time for our food banks but particularly when you add Christmas … plus the regular need throughout the month of December has been increased, it just puts even more pressure on the food banks,” said Shawna Bissell, executive director of Food Banks Alberta, a network of over 100 local organizations in the province.

Organizations across the country have reported an increase in users this year. National network Food Banks Canada counted 1,935,911 visits to food banks in March — the latest data available — a 32.1 per cent increase from March 2022 and a 78.5 per cent jump from March 2019.

Where Was Israel’s Military on Oct. 7?

Far beneath the Israeli military headquarters in Tel Aviv, in a bunker known as The Pit, commanders were trying to make sense of reports of Hamas rocket fire in southern Israel early on the morning of Oct. 7, when the call came in.

It was a commander from the division that oversees military operations along the border with Gaza. Their base was under attack. The commander could not describe the scope of the attack or provide more details, according to a military official with knowledge of the call. But he asked that all available reinforcements be sent.

David Krayden: PM Says Military in ‘Big Trouble.’ It’s Been That Way for Decades

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has found another means of keeping the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) on oxygen. He said that because Canada and other NATO countries have shipped so much military aid to Ukraine in their fight against Russia that “everyone is in big trouble” when it comes to defence readiness.

“We have stayed strong at a time where bigger countries and countries that play by different rules have tried really hard to impact us. And we’re continuing to defend ourselves in all the right ways,” Trudeau told Global News.

London Mayor Won’t Reveal the Cost of ULEZ Protection ‘Bullies’

London Mayor Sadiq Khan believes it is not “appropriate” to reveal the cost of the security personnel hired to defend London’s controversial Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) because doing so “risks encouraging those intent on carrying out … criminal activity.”

This evasive claim—which follows a 100-word ULEZ sales pitch ignoring a very direct question on the scheme’s cost—likely indicates such high security costs that they are seen as capable of  provoking “criminal activity”.

What will it take to end copper theft — and the havoc it wreaks?

Copper may no longer be used to make Canadian coins, but thieves who target the valuable metal still cost British Columbians a pretty penny.

The rose-coloured hardware is found in electrical wiring, transformers and pipes, and can be sold for anywhere from $2 to $4 per pound — making homes, construction sites and public infrastructure a prime target for thieves.

The safety risks theft carries were made painfully clear earlier this year, when RCMP said theft-weakened copper gas lines in downtown Prince George caused an explosion that sent three people to hospital, one of whom sustained severe burns all over her body.

Pennsylvania residents terrorized after finding notes about JFK, terror-riots, SS and Lord of the Rings in packets of Lucky Charms, Lindt Chocolate and chai tea

Pennsylvania residents have been left petrified after finding terrifying notes inside sealed food packages that reference JFK, terror-riots, SS and Lord of the Rings.

The cryptic notes have been discovered in ordinary grocery items, including Lucky Charms, Lindt Chocolate and Chai tea, bought from multiple stores in Northeastern Pennsylvania and across the state.

Joe Miller, from Sugarloaf Township, couldn’t believe his eyes when he found a folded piece of paper containing secret society messages in a box of Lucky Charm’s S’mores cereal that he purchased last week.

Cargo ship carrying burning lithium-ion batteries reaches Alaska, but kept offshore for safety

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A large cargo ship with a fire in its hold is being kept 2 miles (3.22 kilometers) offshore of an Alaska port as a precaution while efforts are undertaken to extinguish the flames, the U.S. Coast Guard said Saturday.

There were no injuries to the 19 crew members aboard the Genius Star XI, which was carrying a load of lithium-ion batteries across the Pacific Ocean, from Vietnam to San Diego, the guard’s Alaska district said in a release.

Jamie Sarkonak: It’s up to voters to silence Ontario MPP Sarah Jama — not the government

Sarah Jama is a diversity-equity-inclusionist fully versed in the lexicon of the post-worker New Democratic Party: she condemns “stolen land” and believes in liberation “from the river to the sea.” She was, at one point, a star candidate for the provincial party in Ontario. But since October, she’s been kicked out of the caucus and silenced in the provincial legislature, and there’s no end in sight. It’s less a victory for us on the outside than a lose-lose situation.

New Democrats have their eye on the labour vote — but so does Pierre Poilievre

OTTAWA — Alexandre Boulerice can picture his campaign pamphlets already.

Although the New Democrat MP might not be on the stump until 2025, he and his party will be able to campaign not just on fights had in Parliament, but on fights won.

Among the many things that marked politics in 2023, it was the year of the Liberal-NDP deal.

Jaggies deal with Junior cost working folk bigly. I bet the lose seats.

The nightmare scenario we are now facing

Not since Gavrilo Princips assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914 has the politically-motivated action of a single individual threatened to plunge an entire nation into strife and crisis like the decision by Maine’s Democrat Secretary of State, Shenna Bellows, to keep Donald Trump off of the state’s primary ballot.

Does that sound like hyperbole? Allow me to explain.

Why the full extent of Hamas’s sex crimes may never be known

First responders to massacre saw raped and abused bodies, but the rapidity of events – and cultural taboos – may leave the truth uncovered

Under the shade of an orange grove next to a deserted road, the body of a young woman lay face up with gunshot wounds to the head and left arm, piercing through to the chest.

The crotch area on her jean shorts was soaked blood red, and the shirt she was wearing was wide open.

Haim Otmazgin was not looking for evidence of sexual assault when he joined the desperate mission to recover the dead, the murdered, and the mutilated in the aftermath of the Hamas terror attacks.

2023 has exposed the moral depravity of the radical left

Jews, women, the working class – leftists have betrayed everyone they once claimed to speak for.

What does it mean to be radical, left-wing, progressive? Well, in 2023, it meant making excuses for a genocidal anti-Semitism, refusing to believe evidence of mass rape and naysaying about the terroristic murder of infants. This was the year the ‘right side of history’ brigade exploded their phoney moral superiority for good.
