No Charges: Ottawa Cops Opt To Appease Muslims Who Shit All Over Christmas At Bayshore Mall

No charges laid following pro-Palestine protest at Bayshore Shopping Centre

Ottawa police say no charges were laid after a protest erupted at the Bayshore Shopping Centre in Ottawa last Friday that was targeting the clothing retailer Zara.

A crowd of approximately 100 demonstrators with Palestinian flags, signs, and drums marched through the Bayshore Shopping Centre Friday evening to protest the Spanish fashion company, which has come under fire for a recent advertising campaign that critics say references the Israel-Hamas war and the resulting devastation in Gaza.

A decade after she was first elected, Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland says she plans to run again in the next federal election, while sidestepping the question of whether she’s eyeing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s job.

In an interview on CTV’s Your Morning, Freeland was asked about the Liberals’ current standing in the polls and the sentiment among some voters that Trudeau should step aside, and whether she would like to lead the Liberal Party of Canada if the job opened up.

Ukraine war: Kyiv forced to cut military operations as foreign aid dries up

Ukraine has warned it is already being forced to downsize some military operations because of a drop-off in foreign aid.

Top general Oleksandr Tarnavskyi said troops faced ammunition shortages along the “entire front line”, creating a “big problem” for Kyiv.

It comes as billions of dollars of US and EU aid have been held up amid political wrangles.

Ukraine said it hoped to boost its own ammunition industry with western help.

The Curious Case of the Biden Administration and Hamas

As Israel is waging war on the Iran-backed Hamas terrorist group, whose members murdered more than 1,200 Israelis and kidnapped 240 others to the Gaza Strip on October 7, the Biden administration appears to be doing its utmost to sabotage Israel’s efforts to defend itself against terrorism.

Iran and its proxies, including Hamas, Hezbollah, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and the Houthis, can only be ecstatic about the Biden administration’s new restrictions, especially the pressure it is reportedly exerting on Israel to end the war in the coming weeks.

OpenAI has suspended the account of TikTok parent ByteDance following a report that the China-owned firm was “secretly” using its “GPT” AI technology to build its own rival chatbot service.

ByteDance, whose ties to the Chinese government have prompted intense federal scrutiny of TikTok’s operations in the US, has reportedly relied on OpenAI’s application programming interface, or API, “during nearly every phase of development” of its AI product, The Verge reported, citing internal company documents.

As the holidays approach, Canadians say they’re being tipped over the edge

Cathy Khalil recently tipped five bucks on an $18 box of doughnuts at one Ottawa store — and says she has no regrets.

“I think when people see [the options on the debit machine] they feel obligated, sometimes, to tip,” Khalil said. “[But] I’m not tipping for the sake of tipping. I’m tipping because I want to tip, and it’s coming from me.”

She may be in the minority: As the holidays approach and Canadians shell out money for gifts, food and other festive purchases, some experts say people are recoiling from all those tip requests that come with an increasingly wide variety of debit or credit card purchases.

Have A Jolly Corporate Crony Christmas! Canadian Job Vacancies Are Falling Sharply As Excess Labor Rises

Canada’s once tight labor market, a key driver of wages and shelter costs, is loosening. Statistics Canada (Stat Can) data reveals job vacancies declined further in Q3 2023. The drop is a double-edged sword: roles being filled is good news, but job creation is failing to keep up with population growth. Canada is adding roughly 2 workers for every job filled, which will quickly transition a tight labor market to one with excess labor in a short period. Expect unemployment to rise and wage growth to fall if this trend persists.

Pope approves blessings for same-sex couples if they don’t resemble marriage

ROME (AP) — Pope Francis has formally approved allowing priests to bless same-sex couples, with a new document explaining a radical change in Vatican policy by insisting that people seeking God’s love and mercy shouldn’t be subject to “an exhaustive moral analysis” to receive it.

The document from the Vatican’s doctrine office, released Monday, elaborates on a letter Francis sent to two conservative cardinals that was published in October. In that preliminary response, Francis suggested such blessings could be offered under some circumstances if they didn’t confuse the ritual with the sacrament of marriage.

From Vancouver to Toronto, tent city dwellers carry on despite the constant threat of being swept aside

In Toronto, more than 20 years ago, I lived in a shantytown that was then North America’s largest. Then as now, people with no other place to go are villainized – but increasingly, encampments are treated like the new normal

Two blocks from where I live, in downtown Toronto, is Saint Stephen-in-the-Fields – an old red-brick church, surrounded by thick, gnarled maple trees. Across the street is the fire hall, and halfway down the block used to be a daycare where my son, a decade ago, once spent his days.

Back then, we’d often pass by Saint Stephen’s, and one morning, a heavy, life-size bronze statue appeared – set down in the earth between the corner of the Anglican church and the sidewalk. It was the figure of a cloaked man, sitting on the ground, his hand held out as if asking for change. And if you looked closer, his palm was cut open. Though originally titled Whatsoever You Do by his sculptor, Timothy P. Schmalz, the bronze beggar became known as Panhandler Jesus.
