Ukraine says ‘foothold’ on Dnipro River’s east bank will open up route to Crimea

Ukrainian troops have established a foothold on the eastern bank of the Dnipro River, officials from Russia and Ukraine have acknowledged, in an operation that Kyiv says will open new avenues of attack toward Crimea.

Estimates of the number of Ukrainian troops involved range from dozens to several hundred and they are reported to be engaged in heavy fighting with Russian forces on the far side of the river.

In Ukraine’s first official confirmation of the beachhead, Andriy Yermak, the head of Ukraine’s presidential administration, said that the crossing showed that Kyiv was still making advances in a months-long counteroffensive that has so far failed to yield major territorial gains.

How Harvard befriended Hamas

The roots of the elite university’s antisemitism and Nazi association run deep

In the aftermath of the October 7 attack on Israel, when videos were circulating on social media showing the enormities perpetrated on Israelis by Hamas terrorists — women raped, old people and children abducted, civilians murdered en masse — students of Harvard’s leftist groups banded together to condemn… Israel. Members of thirty-four student organizations signed a letter declaring that they “hold the Israeli regime entirely responsible for all unfolding violence.” The spectacle of America’s elite youth engaging in a shameless act of victim-blaming sent shockwaves through the world.

Erdogan declares Israel a terrorist state but says Hamas are NOT terrorists but ‘a political party elected by Palestinians’

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan today said Israel was a ‘terror state’ committing war crimes and violating international law in Gaza, while repeating his view that Hamas gunmen are not terrorists but a ‘political party elected by Palestinians’.

In a fiery speech to members of his party, Erdogan said Turkey would work to ensure that Israel’s political and military leaders are recognised as ‘terrorists’ and brought to trial in international courts.

A ranting Erdogan said Israel was a ‘terrorists state’ intent on destroying Gaza along with the thousands of people who live in the besieged territory.

A FedEx tractor-trailer was blocked by several cars in a Memphis, Tennessee, intersection before dozens of people pillaged the back of the truck for packages, leaving boxes discarded all over the road during the brazen weekend theft.

Video from the scene shows multiple people running through parked cars in the road toward the FedEx truck as the driver attempts to escape the ravagers who are carrying their loot.

Why Buffy Sainte-Marie’s ‘pretendian’ case strikes a nerve

Prominent figures in North America have faced allegations in recent years of lying about being indigenous. But none have touched a nerve quite like the recent allegations about Buffy Sainte-Marie – an Oscar-winning folk singer long celebrated as an indigenous icon.

When playwright Drew Hayden Taylor learned that questions were swirling around Buffy Sainte-Marie’s indigenous ancestry, his “jaw literally dropped”.

Mr Taylor, from Curve Lake First Nations, is a long-time fan of the singer, known for songs like Until It’s Time for You to Go and the anti-war anthem Universal Soldier.

Governments should get out of home-building, Poilievre says in visit to View Royal construction site

This is my fear for Toronto.

… Asked by the Times Colonist whether he would increase federal involvement in affordable-housing construction, Poilievre — still dressed in a construction hat and a high-visibility vest — said governments should get out of the home-building business and sell off federal buildings and land to developers. “We need to get the government out of the way and have the fastest building permits in the world.”

Poilievre said his plan requires that cities permit 15 per cent more “housing completions” per year or lose federal funding.

Ukraine charges officials tied to Hunter Biden probe and Russia

Three Ukrainians who aided the Donald Trump campaign’s efforts to discredit the Biden family have been charged with treason.

The 2019 drive was led by former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who was Mr Trump’s personal lawyer at the time.

It centred on unproven allegations that Joe Biden had corrupt dealings with Ukraine as vice-president.

Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) said the three men charged were paid by Russian military intelligence (GRU).

This stinks.

Gad Saad: Concordia University is unsafe for Jewish students and professors like me

I was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon. We were part of a dwindling population of Lebanese Jews who had remained in our homeland despite the growing tension facing our community. Growing up, I faced countless instances of Jew-hatred (see chapter 1 of my 2020 The Parasitic Mind: How Infectious Ideas Are Killing Common Sense). When the Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser died in 1970, I vividly remember, as a five-year-old child, the procession of protesters walking by our home screaming with great zeal “Death to Jews.” I suppose that the mourning is rendered less painful if accompanied by a call for the extermination of Jews.

Hamas supporters and Anti-Oil protesters clash with riot police as thousands descend on San Francisco to ‘shut down’ APEC summit

Hundreds of anti-oil, pro-Palestine protesters clashed with riot police outside the APEC summit in San Francisco ahead of president Biden and Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s widely anticipated meeting on Wednesday.

A motorcade of around ten vehicles was stuck in front of a human barricade as police officers in riot gear tried to control the crowd of demonstrators on Fifth Street near Mission.

The demonstrators, wearing yellow vests, tried to block people from attending the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum and yelled at summit attendees who were stepping into the security zone.

Report on Toronto quality of life paints bleak picture, calls for civic action, engagement

Torontonians are less civically engaged, are more lonely, and are struggling more with mental health, according to a report that tracks the city’s quality of life.

The 2023 Vital Signs report, from the Toronto Foundation, released Wednesday, paints a picture of a city struggling with social isolation, and failing to rebound from trends that worsened during the pandemic.

However, it also aims to offer an optimistic look to the future, and serve as a call to action for Torontonians to work together to make the city a better place to live.

Toronto is no longer the “Toronto” of old.

It’s a city suffering from government sanctioned racial hostility, increasing poverty and ghettoization.

The city like our nation was sacrificed to mass immigration. It will not get better.

Corporate interests will continue to demand that the immigration floodgates be kept wide open. Our politicians will comply.

They do not care about your social, economic or physical well being.

“Looking out for your own best interests will see you labeled a threat and obviously a racist.”

Hamas supporters seem to like it though.

Suella Braverman’s resignation letter in full: ‘You never had any intention of keeping your promises’

A genuine loss.

Suella Braverman has accused Rishi Sunak of “betrayal” over a promise to stop small boat crossings in an incendiary letter after being sacked as home secretary.

In a broadside aimed at the Prime Minister, she accused him of having “manifestly and repeatedly failed to deliver” on key policies, and said his “distinctive style of Government means you are incapable of doing so”.

She said Mr Sunak had not lived up to his promise to do “whatever it takes” to stop small boat crossings by failing to override human rights concerns about the Rwanda plan.
