Trump: I want ‘friendly takeover’of Cuba’
The United States is discussing a “friendly takeover” of Cuba, Donald Trump has said.
The US president said Washington was pursuing an amicable form of regime change in Havana, as sanctions continue to cripple the communist-run island.
Tensions between the US and Cuba have risen since Mr Trump imposed an oil siege on the island following the capture of Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela, a key ally and oil supplier of Cuba, in January. He has threatened to impose tariffs on any country that exports oil to Cuba.
Quebec company charged with hiring 21 unauthorized foreign workers
The Canada Border Services Agency says charges have been laid against a Quebec company that hired several unauthorized foreign workers.
The CBSA said charges were laid on Thursday against Camping Havana Resort, 9267-1551 Québec Inc., company directors Ariane and Dominic Perrier, and an employee named Oscar Fuentes Labrada.
30 More People Are Indicted in Anti-ICE Church Protest in Minnesota
The Justice Department announced on Friday that 30 additional people have been charged with disrupting a Sunday worship service with a protest during the peak of the immigration crackdown in Minnesota. The new indictments bring the total number of people accused in the protest to 39, including Don Lemon, the former CNN anchor.
The demonstration on Jan. 18 took place at Cities Church in St. Paul, Minn., where one of the pastors, David Easterwood, is also a senior official at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Mr. Easterwood was not at the church during the service that day.

In the 2024 local elections, a Green councillor celebrated his victory in the Gipton and Harehills ward in Leeds with a cry of “Allahu Akbar”, adding: “We will not be silenced. Violent mass school fight which left teacher in hospital and injured staff was caused by ‘community tensions’
A headteacher today blamed bubbling ‘community tensions’ for a chaotic outbreak of violence that saw pupils fighting running battles across school grounds, leaving one staff member hospitalised and others injured.
Up to 20 police cars swarmed the school gates as the mass fight broke out at 1,000-pupil Fir Vale Academy in Sheffield at midday yesterday.
Several staff members and students were injured and South Yorkshire Police said a member of staff was sent to hospital with wounds that were not life-threatening.

The Conservatives believe the cost of the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP), which provides health-care benefits to refugee and asylum claimants living in Canada, needs to be curtailed. And the Liberals might not entirely disagree — in last fall’s budget they announced plans to require claimants to cover a share of some costs.
But the Conservatives are pushing much further, both in proposed action and rhetoric.

UK Court Backs Man Who Burned Quran
A man who burned a Quran outside the Turkish consulate in London has won his latest court battle after the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) failed in a bid to overturn his acquittal at the High Court.
Hamit Coskun had been cleared of a religiously aggravated public order offence following a prolonged legal dispute stemming from the incident, during which he set fire to the Islamic holy book in public and was subsequently attacked by a knifeman at the scene.
