We need to know when government is trying to alter our behaviour

You think you’re always the one making your own decisions? Think again.

For some years now, governments have been using a new tool that allows them to guide our choices furtively, without the need for regulation, coercion, or taxation. It’s the nudge, a technique that mobilizes the cognitive biases of individuals, which is to say the unconscious and emotional part of the human mind, to influence our behaviour.

Since the early hours of the morning, the Hamas terrorist organization has begun a massive shooting of rockets from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory, and terrorists infiltrated into Israeli territory in a number of different locations.

According to initial reports, there are nany casualties and a concern that Israelis have been abducted and brought to the Gaza strip.

Civilians in the southern and central areas are required to stay next to shelters, and in the area surrounding the Gaza Strip, inside shelters.

Does not yet seem a determined effort by Hezbollah

Cracks are showing in support of the war in Ukraine

The U.S. has kept Ukraine’s armed forces in the field, but support for the war among Americans is falling.

The future does not look good for those battling the Russians in Ukraine. The long-promised spring offensive against the Russians has never really taken place.

Over the past few months there have been some pitched battles that have cost Moscow much. But so far, the Russians still control much of Ukraine’s territory. More important, there are divisions developing within the anti-Moscow coalition.

Hunter Biden withdrew $20,000 from daughter Maisy’s college fund and spent it on hookers and drugs

Hunter Biden withdrew his daughter’s college savings to help fund a months-long drug and hooker binge – and still hasn’t paid the taxes on it, documents unearthed exclusively by DailyMail.com reveal.

The First Son’s profligacy was cast in sharp relief in papers from an IRS whistleblower who investigated him for tax crimes, released by Congress last month.

In late 2018 Hunter was in his ‘penultimate odyssey through full blown addiction’, according to his memoir, skulking in Connecticut motels and frittering away thousands on prostitutes and crack cocaine.

Federal Prediction on Break-Even Period for EV Subsidies ‘Wildly Optimistic,’ PBO Tells MPs

The Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO) says the federal government’s estimate of five years for it to break even on subsidies to auto giants Volkswagen and Stellantis was “wildly optimistic,” citing the PBO’s recent report that found it would take more than 20 years.

The federal government relied on a report by the non-profit group The Trillium Network for their claim, but Yves Giroux told MPs on the Standing Committee on Industry and Technology Thursday that the Trillium report contained “a lot of assumptions.”

Cameron Ortis trial: RCMP documents detail alleged multi-billion dollar terrorist money laundering scheme in GTA

Newly released documents show Canadian involvement in an international investigation of an alleged money laundering ring in the Greater Toronto Area that authorities believe is linked to a man accused of laundering money for terrorists.

Altaf Khanani, a Pakistani national, has been on the radar of international law enforcement since at least 2008, when he was arrested in his home country for allegedly transferring money illegally.

The U.S. State Department accused Khanani, once described in a media report as “one of the world’s most wanted fraudsters,” of laundering billions of dollars for organized crime and terrorist outfits, including al-Qaeda and the Taliban.

In the disaster that is Chicago, its teachers union plays a starring role

“… Minority pupils compose 89 percent of Chicago’s public-school student body. In third through eighth grades, the percentage of Black students proficient in reading and math are 11 percent and 6 percent. Hispanics: 17 percent, 11 percent. The percentage of 11th-graders proficient on the SAT in reading and math: Black students 10 and 8; Hispanics: 16 and 17. In 22 schools, not a single student can read at grade level; in 33, not a single student can do math at grade level. Even the supposedly good news is disgusting: Last year, the graduation rate was a record high 82.9 percent — even though chronic absenteeism is 49 percent among low-income students.”

NZ doctors avoided Covid jabs while insisting the public had them

THE New Zealand Ministry of Health granted vaccine exemptions to hundreds among its key staff whilst hypocritically insisting that the public be vaccinated.

An Official Information Act (OIA) request to the ministry dated August 2, 2023 asked the following question:

‘According to the legislation at the time in 2021, there were operational exemptions available for those who were not getting vaccinated against Covid-19. How many requests were received? How many were approved by the ministry?’

Email blast from ‘Florida Dems’ show how uninformed and perverted the political elites really are

When I hear the word “books” I think of great literary works like The Last of the Mohicans or the Lord of the Rings trilogy, full of noble heroes who lay down their lives for others, or disturbing exposés like The Real Lincoln or Marx & Satan. I certainly recall haunting dystopian fiction like 1984, and philosophical gems like Rand’s The Virtue of Selfishness and Bastiat’s The Law. And, when I think of book bans, I think of the ritualistic bonfires of the far-left Nazi regime, which sought to destroy (in Joseph Goebbels’s own words) the “intellectualism” of men like Ernest Hemingway and women like Helen Keller.

Can pluralism be low-crime?

There’s a reason shoplifting is rife

My small Shires market town reported a handful of crimes a year when we moved here a decade ago. Over the past year or so, every garage on my street has been burgled. Only last week an escaping shoplifter shoved my daughter to the ground while fleeing the local Londis. Police don’t even attend when you report incidents. The area has not seen a decline in prosperity — only in civic orderliness. And it’s a vicious cycle that burns out local civic participation. I know one town councillor who joined full of enthusiasm, only to resign a year later when officials suggested that, as there was no prospect of any police response to rising drug-taking and antisocial behaviour in the local park, maybe he and another councillor should themselves form a citizen patrol.

The Last Days Of George Orwell

George Orwell

For a man who breathed his last at the young age of 46, Eric Arthur Blair—better known as George Orwell—had an almost unparalleled impact on the Anglosphere he left behind. A journalist, novelist, and diarist, his works have been read by generations of schoolchildren and his name is invoked by politicians of both the Left and the Right to accuse their opponents of the Orwellian practices of state surveillance, gaslighting, brazen lies, mob trial, and more. He likely would have despised them all.

When will the EU take France’s Islamist concerns seriously?

Last week the European Parliament hosted an event in Brussels entitled ‘Close Guantanamo’. It was hosted by two Irish left-wing MEPs, and among the invites were representatives of Cage, which has been described by the French government as an ‘Islamist’ organisation, an allegation Cage denies. Cage was briefly infamous in Britain in 2015 when its director Asim Qureshi called Islamic State butcher Mohammed Emwazi, aka ‘Jihadi John’, who made a living hacking off Westerners’ heads, a ‘beautiful young man’ and blamed security services for his radicalisation. Qureshi later said he regretted his ‘inappropriate description’ of the Isis fighter.
