The suicide epidemic

The United States continues to set records under the Biden administration, but few if any of them are anything you’d want to brag about. We’ve broken records in terms of illegal immigration and gas prices. But an even more depressing statistic emerged this week. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more Americans died by suicide in 2022 than at any previous time in the nation’s history.

Generation Z—Americans born between 1997 and 2012—will be the last generation in U.S. history with a white majority population, with ‘generation Alpha’ (those born after 2010), set to inaugurate a new ‘majority-minority’ age sometime in the mid-2040s, an analysis of census data has revealed.

Months After Closure of Quebec’s Roxham Road, More Asylum Seekers Arriving by Air

The closure of a rural southern Quebec road used by thousands of asylum seekers to enter Canada from the United States hasn’t stopped would-be refugees from arriving, federal data shows.

The number of people claiming asylum in Canada dropped sharply after the end of March, when the government negotiated a deal with the United States to turn away asylum seekers at unofficial border crossings like Quebec’s Roxham Road. However, the numbers have been climbing back up in recent months, propelled by an increase in arrivals at Ontario and Quebec airports.

65 Afghan terrorists were let into the U.S. after Biden’s chaotic withdrawal

Militants who left fingerprints on IEDs meant to kill Americans in Afghanistan and a prisoner freed by the Taliban were among more than 65 terrorists allowed into the United States after the catastrophic withdrawal.

Most of them could still be roaming the country, and the government cannot track them down.

The damning revelations made in a new book add to the laundry list of blunders from the Biden administration during and after the disastrous evacuation of Kabul in August 2021.

Blackie’s Star Generously Offers Career Advice To Poilievre

Pierre Poilievre wants to rebuild a ‘broken’ Canada but first must fix his own image

OTTAWA – A pile of puzzle pieces spills onto a table.

“Everything feels broken,” Pierre Poilievre says in a voice-over as the shot tightens in on the federal Conservative leader’s face as he appears to be concentrating on sorting the pieces in his palm.

He has repeated that line countless times in speeches, on social media and at rallies, but now he is doing so in a slick 29-second advertisement. It is one of several the party rolled out this week as part of a campaign, worth more than $3 million, throughout the rest of the summer and into the fall.

BC Hydro bids to raise EV charging fees, but customers say time-based fees are unfair

Nanaimo resident Rick Butzelaar bought an electric vehicle less than two months ago and the savings so far have been significant, but he doesn’t have a home charger and a recent bid by BC Hydro to increase public charging rates has him concerned.

The provincial Crown corporation wants to raise rates at public electric vehicle charging stations by 15 per cent from Sept. 1, which the company says would allow it to recover the costs of providing them over 10 years.

Some consumers say the proposed rate hike would reduce the incentive for others to make the switch to an electric vehicle.

GOLDSTEIN: While our carbon taxes increase, so do global emissions

Every time the Trudeau government levies a new charge on Canadians to pay for greenhouse gas emissions, it’s useful to keep in mind that global energy-related emissions rose to their highest level in human history last year.

As reported by the International Energy Agency, at 36.8 billion tonnes, global emissions in 2022 were 0.9% or 321 million tonnes higher than in 2021, when emissions totalled 36.5 billion tonnes.

Toronto’s housing market is so expensive, families earning $100,000 are now eligible for Habitat for Humanity help

Habitat for Humanity’s threshold for providing its famous interest-free loans to struggling homeowners is just the latest example of how dire things are for prospective buyers in Canada’s most expensive cities.

For decades, the national non-profit has helped homeowners afford a place of their own through mortgages that require no down payment and aren’t tethered to Canada’s historically high interest rates. However, Habitat for Humanity does require prospective homebuyers to handle its interest-free mortgages on 30 per cent or less of their income. In Toronto, that means some families earning $100,000 are now on their watchlist.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Weimar!
