Indian diplomat accuses RCMP of investigating ‘fantasy’ allegations of interference

India’s top diplomat in Canada says CSIS has been politically compromised and that the RCMP are investigating “fantasy” allegations that Indian officials are involved in crimes against Canadians.

In a sweeping interview with The Globe and Mail, High Commissioner Dinesh Patnaik went on the offensive, attacking the integrity of Canada’s national-security agencies, while pushing back against assertions from Canadian authorities that the Government of India has directed multiple homicide plots and foreign-interference campaigns on Canadian soil.

Mr. Patnaik asserted that the Canadian Security Intelligence Service has been compromised by Sikh separatists using Canada as a base for their campaign to carve out a breakaway state in northwest India, which they call Khalistan.

Gun charges stayed against Canadian Sikh Khalistani leader

Inderjeet Singh Gosal, who leads the Sikhs for Justice movement in Canada following the 2023 assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, has had gun possession charges against him stayed in an Ontario court.

Gosal was charged in September 2025, when Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped his car in Whitby, Ont. Police alleged they found a loaded handgun in a car, and charged Gosal along with two companions.

Charges against Arman Singh of Ontario and Jagdeep Singh of New York were dropped two months later, but continued against Gosal.

Carney should call for extradition of Indian officials linked to Nijjar killing, says ex-Liberal minister Dhaliwal

A former Liberal cabinet minister and prominent Sikh-Canadian is calling for Prime Minister Mark Carney to urge for the extradition of Indian officials in relation to the 2023 killing of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

In an interview with The Hill Times, Herb Dhaliwal said he hopes the first item on Carney’s (Nepean, Ont.) agenda in India is “the full co-operation of the Indian government in the murder of a Canadian where Indian officials were involved,” as well as the discussion of extradition of Indian officials.

Our new trade partner India still a main perpetrator of interference, espionage in Canada: CSIS

OTTAWA — Canada’s spy agency says India remains one of the main perpetrators of foreign interference and espionage against Canada, contradicting a claim by a senior government official last week that Indian agents are no longer linked to such crimes.

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) has repeatedly cited the Indian government as one of the main perpetrators of foreign interference and transnational repression in Canada in recent years.

Canada lists the Bishnoi gang as a terrorist entity

OTTAWA — In a major escalation of Canada’s response to transnational organized crime and geopolitically motivated diaspora violence, the federal government today designated the India-based Bishnoi gang, led by Lawrence Bishnoi, as a terrorist entity under Canada’s Criminal Code. The listing bars Canadians from financing or aiding the group and allows authorities to seize property and freeze accounts.

Canada lists the Bishnoi gang as a terrorist entity

Canada has listed India’s Bishnoi gang as a terrorist entity, allowing the federal government to seize property and freeze money owned by the group in the country.

The federal public safety minister announced the move on Monday, saying the gang created a climate of fear and intimidation in Canadian diaspora communities.

Last year, Canadian police alleged that agents of the Indian government were using Bishnoi members to carry out “homicides, extortion and violent acts” and target supporters of the pro-Khalistan movement.

Inside the alleged Indian intelligence plot to kill Sikhs in Canada and the U.S.

Two officers with a U.S. task force, one of them a special agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the other a detective with the New York City Police Department, had flown to the Czech Republic for the anticipated takedown of a man wanted in an extraordinary, politically sensitive murder-for-hire case.

The U.S. officers knew exactly when their target was to arrive in Prague on a flight from India and had given all the details to Czech authorities. International paperwork requesting the arrest and extradition to New York had already been sent for their wanted suspect: Nikhil Gupta, 53, known as Nick.

CSIS flags extremist Khalistani activists as national security threat

Canada’s spy agency is warning that a small but militant group of Sikhs are using the country as a base for promoting, fundraising and planning violence in India in support of an independent homeland in Punjab, a caution some see as a sign of shifting policies toward New Delhi.

In its annual report to Parliament in June, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service said these homegrown extremists represent only a small group among Sikhs who are otherwise pursuing non-violent advocacy for a state they call Khalistan.

The spy agency says the presence of Sikh extremists in Canada “continues to pose a national security threat to Canada and Canadian interests,” without pointing to any specific examples. It’s the first time CSIS has highlighted Khalistani extremists in its annual report since 2018.

Liberals agree to change language in a report on terror to avoid singling out Sikh extremism

Friday evening, hours before Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is set to visit one of the biggest Sikh temples in Canada, his government agreed to change the language in a report on terror to no longer explicitly mention Sikh extremism.

The 2018 Public Report on the Terrorism Threat to Canada released in December drew ire from Canada’s Sikh community for talking about Sikh extremism for the first time as one of the top five extremist threats in Canada.

Majority of Canadians say Air India bombing not treated like national tragedy: poll

Forty years after the Air India bombing, the worst terrorist attack in Canadian history, more than half of Canadians say that it has never been treated like a national tragedy.

On June 23, 1985, Canadian Sikh terrorists blew up a bomb aboard Air India Flight 182, en route from Montreal to London, with a final destination of Mumbai. The plane exploded over the Atlantic Ocean, killing all 329 people aboard. The debris washed up in Ireland.
