The Quran-burning protester in Sweden and his complex past

… France24 researchers verified a number of videos showing Momika in military clothing, associating with members of other militias. They concluded he was the same man who founded a political party in Iraq, the Syriac Democratic Union Party, in 2014, as well as an associated militia.

Momika’s own militia, which, like many others at the time, was originally set up to fight the extremist “Islamic State” (IS) group, appears to later have been linked with a motley variety of other groups in Iraq. That includes militias with Shiite Muslim affiliations that support, and are supported by, neighboring Iran, as well as Kurdish militias that espouse a more atheist and communist agenda. Iraqi journalists wrote that Momika left the country because of a power struggle with the leader of another Christian militia.

Momika is also thought to have supported the cleric al-Sadar at one stage, and then to have also agreed with anti-government protests in Iraq. A town council member told the publication The New Arab that Momika had committed fraud in his hometown.

CBC head Catherine Tait’s comments in Globe interview ‘blindsided’ staff

After the head of Canada’s public broadcaster gave a newspaper interview earlier this year that promised CBC would eventually become a digital-only product and that criticized Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, senior managers were quick to refute her comments, internal emails suggest.

The Globe and Mail reported in February based on an interview with Catherine Tait that she was preparing to end traditional TV and radio broadcasts and move completely to a digital platform, but that this likely wouldn’t happen in the next decade.

Bottom line, CBC staff are worried about job loss under the proposed digital platform.

Everything else is just smoke to hide the CBC’s hard left cultural bias in the hope of currying public sympathy.

Inside A Ukrainian Baby Factory

War has destroyed much of the Ukrainian economy. But one key industry — delivering babies via surrogates — continues amid the epic strife.

KYIV, Ukraine — When Tanya, a 45-year-old woman living in Los Angeles, paid $10,000 and sent two embryos to a surrogacy firm in Ukraine hoping to build a family six years ago, she says she never expected the uncertainty and heartbreak the process would bring.

Tanya desperately wanted a child but found out she would be unable to conceive herself. After discovering how expensive surrogacy in the U.S. can be, she and her husband began pursuing options abroad — and came across the Kyiv-based company BioTexCom. Tanya’s parents were originally from Odesa, so she felt there was something fitting about her future child being born in Ukraine.

Conrad Black: Towards a more humane Canada

In the National Post last Saturday, Paul Racher, an archaeologist, replied to my column here a week before on aspects of the Indian Residential Schools (IRS) controversy. He did not mention me but specifically took issue with several of the points that I made. Mr. Racher is more cautious in the formulation of his argument than has been the habit of others who are sympathetic to the charge that Canada as a jurisdiction and Canadians as a nationality conducted “cultural genocide” against our native people and came close to attempting physical genocide and ancillary crimes such as disposing of murdered or negligently killed native children in unmarked graves on a large scale. Any progress in conducting this important discussion back to a sober recognition of the known facts is welcome.

Hollywood royalty avoiding Harry and Meghan to stay in William and Kate’s good graces: report

Snitches don’t make friends in Tinseltown, as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are finding out.

Celebrities, including their high-profile neighbors Steven Spielberg, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Rob Lowe, are staying away from the exiled royals in fear that they will spill their secrets — and alienate them from Prince William and Kate Middleton.

I bet Harry get’s knifed to death.

‘When hell freezes over’: Inside the Ontario court battle over Jordan Peterson’s tweets

His lawyers call Toronto psychologist and bestselling author Jordan Peterson a colourful and controversial “online provocateur” whose YouTube videos and tweets are liked by millions.

Peterson’s detractors see him as a showboater who uses controversy to make money, espouses anti-feminist and anti-trans views and spreads misinformation about areas he knows little about; his climate change commentary on a podcast last year was derided by scientists as “stunningly ignorant.”

Canada’s standard of living falling behind other advanced economies: TD

A new economic report from TD says Canada is falling behind the standard-of-living curve compared to its peers.

According to the report published last week, Canada has been lagging behind the U.S. and other advanced economies in terms of standard of living performance (or real GDP per capita), despite recent years of “headline growth.”

“Economic growth does not necessarily equate to economic prosperity,” TD economist Marc Ercolao wrote

I don’t understand how anyone could have misinterpreted  Justin’s Trudeau’s  cornerstone policy of “Mass Immigration Good”.  It’s clearly working as now there’s a smaller piece of the pie for everyone! Journalists and Bankers just don’t understand economics.

Below are just a few of Justin’s positive initiatves deliberately overlooked by Canada’s hostile press.

He’s ruining the resource industry and destroying livliehoods across the entire economic spectrum as a personal sacrifice!

He’s imposing onerous taxes that he assures us will change the weather in China.

He’s making it mandatory that everyone drives Electric Vehicles while ensuring Canada lacks the energy infrastructure to support them. Well actually Justin and his friends will have EV’s just not the rest of us but that’s OK cause we’ll sing songs of praise while crammed like cattle on the BIG Electric Bus!

He’s managed Canada’s international stature to “Pariah” status as we are now considered a deadbeat laughing stock and security risk by our former closest allies.

He’s made life better for Canada’s China Class by subcontracting security and policing to the CCP in the name of efficiency.

He’s made it clear that Canada stands for the sexual mutilation of children and the on demand surrender of your kids to perverts of all stripes.

He’s made Canada the world’s biggest DEI experiment by destroying our nation’s heritage and values in the name of diversity & multiculturalism all while importing the 3rd World with all its prejudices, hate for western values & conflicts.

He’s making good on his promise of equality for all by ensuring most Canadians can’t afford food and shelter.

And remember it was Justin Trudeau who gave us 10 Dollar Butter!

Electric vehicles struggle to hold up amid heat wave roasting US

Electric vehicle owners can expect to take on additional preparations as the summer months heat up and vehicle performance declines.

The United States has broken a number of extreme heat records this year, and millions have received weather advisories as the heat wave is set to continue in the U.S. Southwest. An increase in temperatures means EV drivers may see their car battery power running low more frequently.

David Krayden: If Pastor Pawlowski Goes to Jail, All Canadians Are at Risk of Losing Freedom of Religion and Speech

On Aug. 9 an Alberta judge will decide the fate of Calgary Pastor Artur Pawlowski, a man who has become both a lightning rod and a litmus test for freedom of religion and speech in Canada.

What did Pawlowski do to receive the opprobrium of the justice system and the Alberta provincial government? Did he misuse church finances or defraud his parishioners?

‘EWOK VILLAGE’ homeless encampment appears in trees high above Seattle

Seattle vagrants have now constructed a homeless encampment in the trees above the crime-ridden city, prompting one stunned local to liken it to the Ewok Village from Star Wars.

Local journalist Jonathan Choe stumbled across the ramshackle treehouse high in the city’s trees on Friday, and deployed a drone to get a closer look.

The Ewok encampment has a wooden stepladder to let its residents reach the ground below it. Its floor appears to be comprised of foam blocks, with a net supporting the soft material, which likely gives the shelter’s residents a comfortable sleeping experience.

Native Hawaiians Charge Trudeau Government With Participation In Colonial Exploitation Of Indigenous Peoples To Further Conquest Of Outer Space

Colonial space program cleverly disguised as Tacky tourist trap.

Opponents are calling out Canada over its role in the development of a controversial telescope on Hawaii’s tallest volcano, Mauna Kea, citing human rights abuses.

… The proposed telescope is part of a new, bigger generation of technology, allowing astronomers to study the cosmos in greater detail than ever before, often in search of exo-planets and extraterrestrial life, according to Maile.

It’s caused scholars and advocates to draw comparisons between colonization 600 years ago and today, as astronomers are looking for new worlds that can one day be discovered and colonized.

“The techno-scientific conquest of other planets and life hinges upon the colonial conquest of Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous sacred sites on this planet,” he said.

No one likes Trudeau.

More voluntary carbon offset firms are listing in Canada. Some environmentalists aren’t sold

A small stock exchange in Toronto has become a global hub for companies trading in voluntary carbon offsets and more growth is expected, raising questions about the effectiveness of the new investments for fighting climate change.

The Cboe Canada exchange has become the “most public venue” in North America for companies selling voluntary carbon offsets to list their shares and raise capital, a senior executive said.

“I have not seen any other exchanges pushing that agenda [of voluntary carbon offsets] the same way we have,” Erik Sloane, chief revenue officer for the Cboe Canada exchange, said in an interview. “We are certainly the most public and transparent about it at this stage.”

Mob wars: Montreal gripped by reckless and dangerous violence

The Montreal Mafia was once the apex of organized crime. There are few clearer signs of a desperate mob than messy public fighting

There was little prospect Francesco Del Balso would age gracefully. Or even at all.

Men who were hunting him understood this when they placed a quarter-million-dollar bounty on his head. Police realized it too, after searching his home and finding a pistol stashed and ready.

Del Balso knew his peril best of all.

The Biden Family’s History of Influence-Peddling, Explained

Before Ukraine, the president’s playbook seems to have worked like a charm in Romania.

It was the spring of 2014, and Kyiv was in tumult. For all its talk about democracy, the Obama administration had enthusiastically supported the mass protests in western Ukraine that, on February 21, had ousted the democratically elected president, Viktor Yanukovych.
