Ottawa commits $25M to create Canada’s first-ever LGBTQ entrepreneurship program – Fine if they open a bakery and leave everyone else alone

The federal government has committed $25 million to create Canada’s first-ever LGBTQ entrepreneurship program, an investment one trailblazer called a “game-changer.”

Small Business and Economic Development Minister Mary Ng said the program will help build a more inclusive economy and society.

“This is the first program of its kind in the world,” she said in an interview after the announcement at the Global 2SLGBTQI+ Business Summit and Supplier Diversity Forum in Kingston, Ont.

It’s the only one because no one else is dumb enough to waste money on this crap.

Terence Corcoran: The wildfire syllogism that just doesn’t add up

Are we done with the Canadian wildfire smoke crisis? Here in Toronto, the post-wildfire week began with a cold snap and what seemed like record-breaking rainfall that caused traffic accidents and kept people off the streets. Missing were CBC and other media reports, along with political and environmental group statements, that this local weather event is hurting the economy and creating risks that are typical of what we can expect from the ravages of fossil-fuel-driven climate change.

Asylum seekers sleeping on Toronto streets as at-capacity city shelters overwhelmed … and housing starts decline 23% nationally

Two weeks after the City of Toronto said it would begin referring refugee claimants seeking beds in its at-capacity shelter system to federal programs, asylum seekers who recently arrived in Canada are struggling to find places to sleep.

Birck Teklau arrived in Toronto from Ethiopia on June 3 hoping to claim asylum because, he says, of political persecution in his home country.

The 34-year-old says he’s been sleeping on the streets ever since — after being turned away from the city’s shelter system day after day.

“I tried many times…. They say that we don’t have [a] place,” Teklau said in an interview. “I never expected this from Canada.”

Rex Murphy: For schools and apparently the PM, parents are the new ‘deplorables’

School boards, schools, and particularly individual teachers should make a choice: are they involved in education or social justice and woke activism?

Because from every bulletin they put out, and all the preachments about their “commitment” to diversity and inclusion and equity, and safe spaces, and above all their latest deep commitment to “trans rights,” it is ruefully clear that their passion is for activism.

Living With Rats: A Parisian Ambition?

The proliferation of rats in Paris has become a matter of international concern. The French capital is suffering from an ever-increasing rodent population, to the effect that not a day goes by without residents coming face to face with these animals—whether in parks, on the metro, or in the city’s busiest streets. Unable to solve the problem, the socialist Town Hall has proposed the creation of a ‘committee’ to study how to ‘cohabit’ with these animals.

It is currently difficult to estimate the exact number of rats, a population that is by nature hidden and shifting. However, rat control professionals estimate that there are around 5 million rats in the whole of Paris, representing a ratio of 1.5 to 2 rats per inhabitant. Parisians come across them every day.

Court Rules White Starbucks Manager Was Fired Because Of Her Race, Awards Her $25M

A federal jury awarded a white Starbucks regional manager — who was fired after staff at one of her stores called the police on two black men in 2018 — over $25 million, finding that the coffee giant fired her because of her race.

In the unanimous ruling, the jury awarded Shannon Phillips $25 million in punitive damages and $600,000 in compensatory damages. Phillips’ lawsuit against Starbucks alleged that the company fired her on the basis of her race, in violation of New Jersey law and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Why Donald Trump Cannot Get a Top-Tier Lawyer

Former President Donald Trump has now been arraigned and pleaded not guilty. He was represented by two lawyers, neither of whom he apparently wants to lead his defense at trial. He has been interviewing Florida lawyers, and several top ones have declined. I know, because I have spoken to them. There are disturbing suggestions that among the reasons lawyers are declining the case is because they fear legal and career reprisals.

ABC ADMITS Downtown San Francisco Too Unsafe Even for a War Reporter

On Wednesday, ABC’s Good Morning America continued to highlight how dire things had gotten for downtown San Francisco, California as yet another major retailer, the Westville Mall was closing due to losing 45 percent of the shops it housed. But despite admitting that San Francisco was becoming a “zombie city” and the area around the mall and downtown were too unsafe for their crew, they refused to mention that the city’s purely liberal policies were the source of the problem.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.
