Tribe that worships Prince Philip to hold ‘big’ Coronation party

The remote South Pacific tribe that worships Prince Philip is preparing to hold a party for the Coronation of King Charles III.

Villagers on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu will raise the Union flag, dance and drink kava, an intoxicating drink made from pulverised roots, according to a local leader.

As the King is crowned in Westminster Abbey on Saturday, people will gather 10,000 miles away in the villages of Yakel and Yaohnanen.

How Palestinians Are Trying to Destroy Lebanon

Many people in Lebanon are worried that the Iranian-backed Islamist group Hamas and other Palestinian terror factions might drag Lebanon into another war with Israel.

The concern was expressed after several rockets were fired in early April from south Lebanon into Israel. Several reports have suggested that Hamas was behind the rocket attack. Indiana Councilman Comes Out as ‘Lesbian Woman of Color,’ and Yet Leftists Are ENRAGED

It should have been cause for celebration. According to a Monday report in the Daily Caller, Ryan Webb announced that he was “honored” to “shatter that glass ceiling” as he became the “very first lesbian woman of color” to serve as a county councilman in Delaware County, Indiana. Yet instead of celebrating, Leftist Hoosiers are enraged, and are calling for Webb to be removed from the county council altogether. Webb has even received death threats. Wait a minute: Don’t they love men who claim to be women, and women who claim to be men? Doesn’t today’s Left celebrate gender confusion and mental disorders? Not in this case.

Hollywood writers’ strike vs. AI

“The Writers Guild of America, representing scriptwriters in Hollywood, is sending its members to the picket line starting today, declaring that its members are facing an “existential crisis” in terms of wages and job opportunities. This has happened before and it always seems to be worked out eventually. (The last Writers Guild strike lasted 100 days.) But perhaps this time it’s going to be different. Emerging technologies have significantly changed the way the entertainment industry operates, including how it is monetized. “

Pope Francis pursuing Ukraine peace mission without Zelensky’s blessing, says Kyiv

A secret Vatican peace mission to end the fighting in Ukraine appears to have been shot down by Kyiv as the country prepares for a long-awaited counteroffensive to drive out President Putin’s invading army.

Pope Francis said on Sunday that the Vatican was involved in behind-the-scenes efforts to end the war. “There is a mission in course now but it is not yet public. When it is public, I will reveal it,” he said after a trip to Hungary that involved talks with Viktor Orban, the Hungarian prime minister, and a Russian Orthodox bishop. “Everyone is interested in the road to peace,” the Pope added.

Under the deal, Casillo pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor, she will have the charge reduced to a disorderly conduct violation if she fulfills her sentence and stays out of trouble for six months, prosecutors and her lawyer said.

RCMP’s recruitment plight could threaten its ability to do its job, advisory board warns

The RCMP’s recruitment situation can be described accurately as a crisis, says the force’s independent advisory board — one that could threaten its ability to serve as Canada’s national police force.

That’s the conclusion of a report by the Management Advisory Board, an oversight body that advises the RCMP commissioner, following a review of the RCMP’s cadet training program. The report was written by a board task force focused on the issue of training.

The report, shared with CBC News, recommends an overhaul of what cadets are taught at the RCMP’s depot in Regina to keep pace with modern policing.

Focus of 9/11 Families’ Lawsuit Against Saudi Arabia Turns to a Saudi Student Who May Have Been a Spy

Twenty years after the Sept. 11 attacks, declassified FBI documents have changed a big piece of the story about possible Saudi government help to the hijackers. Families of the victims want more information.

From the first weeks after the 9/11 attacks, suspicions about a possible Saudi government role in the plot have focused on a mysterious, 42-year-old graduate student who welcomed the first two Qaida hijackers after they landed in Los Angeles in January 2000.

The Saudi student, Omar al-Bayoumi, claimed to have met the two terrorists entirely by chance; he said he was just being hospitable when he helped them settle in San Diego. Both the FBI and the 9/11 Commission supported Bayoumi’s account, dismissing the suspicions of agents who thought he might be a Saudi spy.

After nearly 20 years, however, the FBI has changed its story. In documents declassified last year, the bureau affirmed that Bayoumi was in fact an agent of the Saudi intelligence service who worked with Saudi religious officials and reported to the kingdom’s powerful ambassador in Washington.

So the FBI has been lying all these years? Hoodathunkit!

Bill C-11: Why is YouTube mad at Canada?

A new law that seeks to give Canadian artists a leg up online has left many influencers and tech giants alike seeing red.

They took out subway ads, they posted TikToks, but in the end, the score was Silicon Valley-0, Ottawa-1.

After many twists and turns, and over two-and-a-half years of review, the Canadian government has passed a new law that makes tech giants like YouTube and TikTok support Canadian cultural content.

A pox on both their houses YouTube is Orwellian and Trudeau’s Liberals are Woke Stalinists.

“Content creators” fear both being included in the government’s planned forced diet of CanCon which will relegate them to a digital Ghetto, and to a lesser extent being excluded as not Canadian “enough” by the CRTC’s annointed “God’s Of All CanCon.” I plan to continue ignoring CanCan as I have always done. Let’s face it with rare exceptions most of it is unpalatable government agenda swill.

I will now reveal an ugly personal truth: Overplay due to CanCon destroyed virtually all pleasure derived from listening to Gordon Lightfoot’s music.

Vice Media prepares to file for bankruptcy

Vice Media is preparing to file for bankruptcy – after attempts to find a buyer for a company once valued at $5.7 billion appeared to be going nowhere.

More than five companies have expressed interest in acquiring Vice, The New York Times reported on Monday, but the chances of a sale are seen as increasingly remote.

The decline of Vice comes a little over a week after BuzzFeed News announced its closure, and three months after Vox laid off 130 people, representing 7 percent of staff.

Vice, Buzzfeed, Vox. Commonality? All left all the time. The market is saturated.

John Robson: The Contrast in How Striking Federal Workers Were Treated Compared to the Truckers’ Convoy

It’s just as well that striking federal public servants didn’t use trucks to block roads, interfere with critical infrastructure, and cause Canadians major and lasting inconvenience if not harm. Someone might have said something. For instance, “seize their bank accounts.”

Just kidding. Not about blocking roads, etc. Those things really happened. But the only drawback if PSAC had used trucks is that it would have made the contrast that much more awkward. Or would it? These people don’t embarrass easily.

China ‘barring thousands of citizens and foreigners from leaving country’

China is increasingly barring people, including foreign executives, from leaving the country, according to a report and research.

Scores of Chinese nationals and foreigners have been ensnared by exit bans, according to the report from the rights group Safeguard Defenders, while a Reuters analysis has found an apparent surge in court cases involving such bans in recent years.

Foreign business lobby groups are voicing concern about the trend, calling it a jarring message as the authorities say the country is open for business after three years of tight Covid-19 restrictions.
