As mental health, addiction crises surge in cities, B.C. looks to involuntary treatment for aid

The patients at the Red Fish Healing Centre for Mental Health and Addiction are here after failing all treatment options at B.C. hospitals, with more than two thirds also having become violent either with health care staff or while committing a crime on the street. All of them are battling severe addictions to drugs.

And more than half of the 100 or so patients are here against their will after being certified under British Columbia’s civil Mental Health Act.

It is the best option available to solve the “homeless crisis.”

Most Canadians feeling less safe than before COVID-19 pandemic: poll

A new poll suggests most Canadians feel they’re less safe now than they were before the COVID-19 pandemic, and most think the provincial and federal governments are doing a poor job of addressing crime and public safety.

In an online survey, Leger and the Association for Canadian Studies asked how the level of crime and violence in a respondent’s home community today compares to how it was before the pandemic began in early 2020.

Just how gross was it at that San Francisco Whole Foods?

Whole Foods on Monday shut down its ritzy new flagship store in San Francisco, after just a year in operation, citing crime and safety concerns.

I wrote about that astonishing event yesterday, brought on by the city’s failure to enforce its own laws, noting that the company had a good customer base and had shelled out big to make the place attractive, but that was no match for the chaos the one-party government had allowed the area to fall into. Whole Foods may have had a punchbowl for themselves and its customers, but with the city’s coddling of bums and criminals, someone dropped a deuce in it.

Biden Proclaims ‘Transgender Day of Visibility’ Right after transgender shooter’s murder spree at a Christian school.

Three children and three adults were brutally murdered by a transgender shooter, Audrey Hale, at the Christian Covenant School in Nashville on March 27th. The attack was planned “over a period of months,” according to the Nashville police.

On March 30th – three days after the massacre — President Joe Biden proclaimed March 31st as “Transgender Day of Visibility.” Instead of honoring the memory of the victims murdered in cold blood at the school, Biden decided that it was more important to honor the “joy, strength, and absolute courage” of “millions of transgender and nonbinary Americans.”

The New Elite is in complete denial

The not-so-liberal establishment refuses to acknowledge its own power.

“I was surprised and delighted to find my new book, Values, Voice and Virtue, in The Sunday Times bestseller list this week. But I was even more surprised to read some of the reaction to the book from our media and political class.

Values, Voice and Virtue offers a sweeping account of why British politics has come unstuck over the past half-century. It throws light on the big divides which I argue are now shaping British politics and society. There are divides over the values society holds. Divides over whose voices are heard in our public institutions. And divides over whose voices and values are considered to be virtuous, or morally worthy.”

John Lydon on loving and losing Nora: ‘I don’t have self-pity – all it does is arm your enemies’

As he releases a new PiL album, the ex Pistol reflects on Vivienne Westwood, the ‘spiteful’ Sussexes and caring for his beloved late wife

“She is loved, and she knows she is loved. And her personality has always been vivacious, outgoing, bright and looking for the best in things,” John Lydon told me a few days ago from his home in Malibu where he cared for his beloved wife of almost five decades, Nora, who suffered from Alzheimer’s.

Why are Americans getting dumber?

IQ scores are nosediving after a long increase

New research from the United States confirms a worrying trend — a long-term decline in IQ scores. In cruder terms, Americans are getting dumber every year.

According to a report in Popular Mechanics, researchers from Northwestern University used “survey responses from 394,378 Americans between 2006 to 2018 to examine if cognitive ability scores changed within the US in those 13 years”. What they found was a general, though not uniform, drop-off in measured ability.

German police call for knife-free zones in cities

Germany’s federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, of the center-left Social Democrats (SPD), says she wants to take stronger action to combat knife crime.

“We should think about banning knives on public transport, on buses and trains,” Faeser told the Funke Media Group. “After all, anyone traveling by plane is not allowed to take a knife with them.” Apart from increasing security measures on public transport, Faeser said another solution could be weapon-free zones in certain urban areas.

Ross McKitrick: The important climate study you won’t hear about

An important new study on climate change came out recently. I’m not talking about the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Synthesis Report with its nonsensical headline “Urgent climate action can secure a liveable future for all.” No, that’s just meaningless sloganeering proving yet again how far the IPCC has departed from its original mission of providing objective scientific assessments.

I’m referring instead to a new paper in the Journal of Geophysical Research-Atmospheres by a group of scientists at the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) headed by Cheng-Zhi Zou, which presents a new satellite-derived temperature record for the global troposphere (the atmospheric layer from one kilometre up to about 10 km altitude).

Trudeau Foundation will exonerate itself with independent review of ChiCom Payola Scandal

The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation says it will be launching an independent review of the organization’s acceptance of a donation “with a potential connection to the Chinese government.”

The foundation’s board reached this unanimous decision prior to dissolution, according to board chair Edward Johnson.

“This review will be conducted by an accounting firm instructed by a law firm, neither of which were previously involved with the Foundation,” Johnson said in a statement to CTV News.

Joel Kotkin: China wants to vassalize the West — Trudeau and Biden want to let it

Throughout history, more powerful nations have preyed on smaller ones, as is now being demonstrated by Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine. Yet for those outside Europe, China’s economic power makes it a far more formidable threat to democracy than neo-tsarist Russia; Russia’s GDP is smaller than that of Canada or Australia’s, and barely a 10th of China’s.

Un-returnable Chinese donation triggered governance crisis at Trudeau foundation: newspaper

The taxpayer-backed Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation was plunged into crisis in March, several weeks after the Globe and Mail reported that a major 2016 donation ultimately came from the Chinese state rather than a Beijing billionaire, according to an internal document obtained by La Presse.

Shortly after the Globe story broke, the foundation publicly announced it would return $140,000 to the Chinese benefactor.
