International aid agencies ask for more money in letter to Freeland ahead of budget

OTTAWA – Dozens of Canada’s international aid agencies are asking Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland to increase the country’s foreign assistance contributions.

The request comes in a letter signed by 75 non-governmental organizations, including the Canadian chapters of groups such as Oxfam, Save the Children, Unicef and World Vision.

They’re asking Freeland to increase international aid funding from the $8.15 billion pledged in the last budget and to gradually ramp that figure up to $10 billion by 2025.

We gain nothing. International aid is just a job scheme for the virtue signaling class and often a slush fund for corrupt regimes like Trudeau’s.

Jamie Sarkonak: The counterproductive ‘decolonizing’ of the national anthem

National identity depends on having a shared set of values, often represented in our cultural products. These cultural products include the obvious: our songs, our statues and our broadcast media — and the less obvious: the way we name roads, bridges and city wards. The great thing about Canadian national identity is that it’s (traditionally) based on the liberal democratic tradition, where all citizens are equal before the law regardless of background.

I’m sick of these racists.

Disinformation Inc: Government-backed group tried to punish sites boosting COVID lab leak theory

A State Department-backed “disinformation” tracking group blacklisting conservative news outlets pressured advertising companies to punish websites boosting the COVID-19 “lab leak” theory, which a federal agency now says is the most likely origin of the virus.

The Global Disinformation Index, a British group with two affiliated U.S. nonprofit organizations, has continued to come under fire for feeding conservative news blacklists to advertising companies. This same government-funded entity repeatedly applied pressure on companies to cut ties with websites promoting the once alleged right-wing “conspiracy” that COVID-19 emerged from a lab — which the Energy Department recently concluded is probable based on intelligence.

Eviction applications spike in Ontario as rents soar, vacancies dwindle

As Ontario faces a chronic shortage of housing and rapidly climbing rents, landlords in the province are increasingly trying to evict their tenants and take possession of those rental units.

In 2022, the Landlord and Tenant Board, which adjudicates rental-housing disputes in the province, received more than 5,550 eviction applications in which landlords sought units for themselves, family members or new buyers. That was an increase of 41 per cent from 2019, according to numbers provided by the province to The Globe and Mail.

The People Onscreen Are Fake. The Disinformation Is Real.

Guy Smiley – The last anchor you could trust. Until that unfortunate incident with the Thai Ladyboys.

In one video, a news anchor with perfectly combed dark hair and a stubbly beard outlined what he saw as the United States’ shameful lack of action against gun violence.

In another video, a female news anchor heralded China’s role in geopolitical relations at an international summit meeting.

Combine AI with Deepfake tech. Oh boy.

Poilievre denies speaking with anti-immigration German politician

Federal Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is denying that he has ever spoken with controversial far-right German politician Christine Anderson, despite her claims that they have conversed on more than one occasion, and that she found him to be a “decent guy.”

“Mr. Poilievre has never spoken to Christine Anderson, and any suggestion that he has is categorically false,” Sebastian Skamski, media relations director for the Office of the Leader of the Official Opposition, said in a statement on Sunday.

San Francisco’s woke public defender is slammed for condemning plans to deport opioid pushers ravaging city

A public defender in San Francisco is pushing back on a newly proposed law that would target illegal immigrants convicted of selling fentanyl for deportation.

The law was proposed last week by Supervisor Matt Dorsey, who is himself a drug and alcohol addict in recovery, who says the law would be a ‘hard line’ against the individuals selling the addictive synthetic opioid that has claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans.

Peter Calloway, a public defender in San Francisco, recently took a public stance against the new policy when he tweeted: ‘Supervisor Matt Dorsey seeks to end the city’s Sanctuary City policy for ppl accused of dealing fentanyl. Keep in mind that many such ppl deal under threat of violence to them/their families.’

Trudeau creates instant Haitian Diaspora in Niagara Falls – Hilarity ensues

Bused out of Quebec, francophone asylum seekers struggle to get medical services

Over the phone, the woman’s voice is regretful but hurried — she says she’s sorry, but if the French-speaking migrant on the other end of the line cannot find someone to translate English, the doctor won’t see him for the medical exam he needs in order to claim asylum in Canada.

CBC News obtained a recording of the phone conversation the man says took place Wednesday in Niagara Falls, Ont.

“It’s not possible to speak with the doctor if you can’t speak English,” the woman tells him in French. “You have to find someone at your hotel to help you.”

“I don’t know anyone here,” Guirlin — whose last name CBC News has agreed to withhold because of his precarious immigration status — replies.

Robot lawyer that drafts legal contracts in the offing after chatbot deal

RobinAI, which has just secured $10.5m (£8.8m) in equity funding, is developing a lawyer bot that can pick apart contracts and suggest new wording to solicitors.

It says the technology can cut the time to review a document by up to 80pc, saving on legal fees.
