The University of Cambridge barred white working-class students from one of its postgraduate courses

The University of Cambridge barred white working-class students from one of its postgraduate courses, the Telegraph can reveal.

The institution’s School of Arts and Humanities internally promoted “an exciting new widening participation project” that will “give an opportunity for students from under-represented groups to experience postgraduate research at Cambridge”.

The school, one of six at Cambridge that oversee degrees across all the colleges, told lecturers it was “more reliant on Oxbridge applicants than most other schools”, at around 40 per cent per year, compared to 25 to 30 per cent university-wide.

‘There are no bodies’: Judge’s comments shock Kamloops Indian School survivor as land defenders given jail time

The former Kamloops Indian Residential School (KIRS) is about a 10 minute drive from the courthouse where six water and land defenders — including a survivor — were sentenced this week for resisting Trans Mountain’s construction in Secwepemcúl’ecw.

The evidence indicating the presence of 215 children’s remains at KIRS — uncovered through an investigation led by Tkʼemlúps te Secwépemc in 2021 — is still a raw subject for the many affected families, some of whom were present in court.

But that didn’t stop Shelley Fitzpatrick, the judge who has been presiding over the land defenders’ case for two years, from making her opinion about the findings at KIRS known.

Pew Reports 63% of U.S. Men Are Alone

Extortionist.

Getting older has its problems. Hair loss, high blood pressure, and joints that suddenly no longer work like they used to are just a few. But when it comes to marriage and relationships, I thank God every day that my wife and I got married when we did. I cannot imagine being a single man today. First of all, there is no way I could keep track of all my alleged microaggressions, mansplaining, manspreading, cis-gendered patriarchal, imperialist… wait, what were we talking about again?

I have been wrestling with the likelihood that with K’s passing I will spend whatever remaining years I have left alone.

I am not looking nor do I think it possible to have a change of heart on the matter. It just is. I don’t know that I could summon the wherewithal to make the emotional investment in a new relationship. A doubtful prospect I suspect. It’s a tough knot with issues of faithfulness & loyalty owed making it near impossible for me to contemplate.

Well for companionship there’s always Xavier who has recently learned the art of extortion.

Time is not on Ukraine’s side

Most of Ukraine’s tanks are post-Soviet models. Without ammunition, these are ‘not tanks but tractors’

General Valeriy Zaluzhny, stocky, forceful, apple-cheeked, sits at the desk in Kyiv from which he commands all Ukraine’s armed forces. I ask him what they need from the West. First, air defense. With a twinkle in his eye, he unzips his khaki fleece to reveal a garish T-shirt demanding “F-16s!” Next on his list are long-range missiles such as the American ATACMS and the Franco-British Storm Shadow, so they can hit Russian targets beyond the range of their current armory. Now the general jumps up, disappears behind a glass-fronted office cupboard into an improvised sleeping area, and returns with another T-shirt, this time calling for missiles. It seems he has a T-shirt for every weapon system.

‘Sound like Mickey Mouse’: East Palestine residents’ shock illnesses after derailment

EAST PALESTINE, OHIO – Wade Lovett’s been having trouble breathing since the Feb. 3 Norfolk South train derailment and toxic explosion here. In fact, his voice sounds as if he’s been inhaling helium.

“Doctors say I definitely have the chemicals in me but there’s no one in town who can run the toxicological tests to find out which ones they are,” Lovett, 40, an auto detailer, said in an extremely high-pitched voice. “My voice sounds like Mickey Mouse. My normal voice is low. It’s hard to breathe, especially at night. My chest hurts so much at night I feel like I’m drowning. I cough up phlegm a lot. I lost my job because the doctor won’t release me to go to work.”

Thousands in Berlin attend ‘naive’ Ukraine peace rally

Police in Berlin said on Saturday afternoon that roughly 13,000 people had attended an event in central Berlin organized by a controversial socialist politician, Sahra Wagenknecht, and a prominent writer and feminist, Alice Schwarzer.

The Rebellion for Peace rally organizers have received fierce criticism from many politicians, including Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who say the demonstration could weaken public support for Ukraine’s fightback against Russia.

Thanks to Obama’s ‘Nuclear Deal,’ Iran Now a Major Arms Exporter

The Biden administration is still attempting to revive the disastrous nuclear deal with Iran, which paved the way to lift the arms embargo on the country and helped the Iranian regime to currently become a major global arms exporter.

Among the many gifts that the Obama Administration offered to the Iranian regime was one setting October 18, 2020 as the date when the arms embargo on Iran would be removed, allowing the regime to export, import, buy and sell weapons legally, as it might wish. The arms embargo for Iran had been previously placed on it by the five members of the United Nations Security Council in 2007, during the Bush administration. The embargo encompassed a wide range of weapons, including large-caliber artillery, drones, combat aircraft, battle tanks, armored combat vehicles, attack helicopters, some missiles and missile launchers, and warships.

Zelensky: America Will ‘Lose NATO‘ if it Pulls Military Support from Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared that if America pulls military support from his country, the United States will “lose NATO” and its global leadership position.

Speaking at a press conference in Kyiv (Kiev) on the one-year anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion of his country, Zelensky responded to a question on the growing unpopularity of continued support for the war in Ukraine in the United States by criticising Americans who do not want to continue to send arms and billions of their taxpayer dollars to his administration.

I suspect NATO was on shaky ground before this crisis. If it is proven the US sabotaged the NordStream pipelines more than just a disagreement among friends can be expected.

Vegetable shortages in UK could be ‘tip of iceberg’, says farming union

Shortages of some fresh fruit and vegetables such as tomatoes and cucumbers could be the “tip of the iceberg”, the National Farmers’ Union (NFU) has said.

Certain products are hard to come by in UK supermarkets due to poor weather reducing the harvest in Europe and north Africa, Brexit rules and lower supplies from UK and Dutch producers hit by the jump in energy bills to heat glasshouses.

The NFU’s deputy president, Tom Bradshaw, said a reliance on imports had left the UK particularly exposed to “shock weather events”.

Justin Trudeau is digging a deeper hole for himself on Chinese meddling in elections

Justin Trudeau keeps digging himself a deeper hole on the issue of Chinese meddling in Canadian elections.

When troubling reports came out in November, he first said it was nothing new. Then he said he hadn’t actually been briefed that any candidates may have been helped or harmed by Beijing. Lately he’s been arguing we shouldn’t worry much because China didn’t actually affect the outcome of our elections.

Most Canadians still back Ukraine aid amid economic challenges. Elsewhere, not so much

Canadians are still largely invested in Ukraine’s struggle to stop Russia’s invasion and are supportive of Canada’s efforts to help, but that support has dipped slightly since the war began a year ago, a new poll suggests.

The Ipsos poll, conducted exclusively for Global News and released on the one-year anniversary of the invasion, found 65 per cent of those surveyed are just as concerned about Ukraine’s future as they were last February.
