The toxic women of gym TikTok

Too many ladies are filming in the weights room for clout

The hashtag “gym creep” now has over 37.3 million views on TikTok. Honestly, I’ve watched hundreds of these videos and the only weird behavior I can spot in any of the clips are from the women recording the unsuspecting men while they work out. “Watch this creep,” the lady will say as a confused male just happens to glance at the camera that’s been shoved in front of him. Scandalous!

This makes me shake my head.

Pair Is Charged With Plotting to ‘Destroy Baltimore’ by Attacking Electrical Grid

WASHINGTON — Federal law enforcement officials have arrested two people accused of conspiring to “completely destroy Baltimore” in what they described on Monday as a racist plot to demolish the power grid in a predominantly Black city.

Sarah Clendaniel, 27, of Catonsville, Md., and Brandon Russell, 34, of Orlando, Fla., planned to inflict “maximum harm” by targeting facilities operated by Baltimore Gas and Electric, which serves 1.2 million customers in central Maryland, according to a complaint filed in federal court

Adam Pankratz: Maybe B.C.’s drug addicts should have to face shame and stigma

VANCOUVER — B.C. has decriminalized drug possession of 2.5 grams of cocaine, MDMA, meth and opioids, including heroin. Those in favour hail it as a victory against stigma, while opponents worry it will have unintended consequences. We will leave the public policy debate to others, but will ask another very pertinent question: what’s wrong with stigma?

Canada’s push to decriminalize drugs will be a disaster

Overdose deaths continue to rise in Vancouver, the epicenter of Canada’s addiction crisis, as barriers to drug use are demolished. After British Columbia’s decriminalization experiment came into effect, the province’s center-right Liberal Party pledged that, should they be elected, they will invest $1.5 billion into Portuguese-inspired rehabilitation-oriented treatment. This would be a significant improvement over British Columbia’s current farce. Earlier this week, the Canadian province of British Columbia decriminalized the possession of small amounts of hard drugs, such as cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl.

The Chinese Spy Balloon Over My House

Last week, when Montanans looked up at the sky—the fabled “big sky” that gives our state its nickname and remains clear and blue and well worth gazing at—they saw something odd. Some people reported the distant silver sphere to the authorities, it being a tradition in a state that was pacified by vigilantes back in the days of the frontier mining camps to keep an eye peeled for signs of brewing trouble.

The Grammys: The Glamor of Evil, Sam Smith Edition

Satan’s, aka Sam Smith’s, unholy singing at the Grammy’s.

My sincere hope for the future involves the abolition of all-star games and awards shows. They feel like lame relics from the 20th Century. I missed the NFL Pro Bowl, to the extent it still exists, but I watched part of the Grammys on Sunday just to affirm my alienation from a culture on which I do keep tabs.

I am underwhelmed by the insipidness of evil.

Where the Grass Is Grayer

In New York and elsewhere, the illegal pot market is crowding out the legal one

In December 2022, the first licensed sellers of marijuana in New York State opened their doors. That might surprise New Yorkers who saw, to their delight or dismay, hundreds of smoke shops begin selling weed out of neighborhood storefronts last year. These unlicensed, “gray-market” operations may strangle the Empire State’s legal marijuana industry in its crib, thwarting politicians’ ambitions of advancing racial equity via drug legalization.

‘Google killer’ ChatGPT sparks AI chatbot race

It has been two months since the public launch of AI chatbot ChatGPT by the firm OpenAI – and it did not take long for people to start noticing what a game-changer this really is.

Whether you have asked it to write you a song in the style of your favourite musician, sneaked in a homework question (500 words on the end of World War Two? no problem), tasked it to write copy for your company website, write a speech or even churn out specific program code, ChatGPT has proved that it can deliver – and in a convincing way.

‘Rust’ cast and crew could be called to testify against Alec Baldwin

Several members of the ‘Rust’ cast and crew may be called to testify against Alec Baldwin as he faces involuntary manslaughter charges.

Baldwin and Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed were formally charged last week for the death of Halyna Hutchins on the low-budget Western’s New Mexico set in October 2021.

Prosecutors allege Baldwin shot the gun that killed Hutchins while Gutierrez-Reed didn’t check the gun given to the hot shot actor before it was handed to him.

CHARLEBOIS: Canada can fix its milk dumping problem, easily

A video of an exasperated Canadian dairy farmer, Jerry Huigen, went viral last week. For probably the first time in Canadian history, a Canadian dairy farmer was filmed while discarding milk on his own farm. That video has now been viewed by almost 3 million people. It shocked many Canadians, who were wondering why this is even possible when food prices are skyrocketing at the grocery store.

Masking likely wouldn’t have eased respiratory virus surge in the fall: PHO document

Introducing a mask mandate when respiratory viruses surged in the fall may not have eased the crush on pediatric hospitals, a Public Health Ontario science brief obtained by The Canadian Press concludes.

The brief — which was not proactively made public, unlike the reports done by the now-defunct science table predecessor — provides a glimpse of the evidence on which Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore made his decision to go no further than a “strong” recommendation on masking in mid-November.
