Answers to these questions come from the annual Christmastime release of the Census Bureau’s estimates of the population of the 50 states and the District of Columbia as of last July.

Comparing those numbers to the decennial census count of April 1, 2020, just when COVID restrictions were put in place, provides a view of how Americans moved, or didn’t, during the pandemic and post-pandemic 27 months.

Soon after repressive regimes seized power in countries like China and Iran, language began to appear across state communications that reflects those regimes’ ideology and propaganda. Some observers say they are seeing similar trends today in Canada, with ideological terms increasingly becoming standardized throughout government communications.

In China and other communist countries, terms reflecting Marxism’s class struggle are entrenched in all aspects of society, with keywords like “people’s” and “revolutionary” added to wording used by many government bodies and entities. The same is seen in leftist theocracies like that of Iran, which, besides religious terms, espouse the notion of “protecting the disadvantaged” and “preserving the revolution.”

Denmark’s decision to end the protection of Syrian refugees dates back to 2015, when the parliament introduced a new temporary protection status — one that doesn’t exist in other European countries and carves out a particularly “thin” form of protection for asylum-seekers fleeing generalized violence, primarily from Syria. This means that as soon as the human rights conditions in their home country improves slightly, protection can be withdrawn, even if the situation remains “serious, fragile and unpredictable.”

Video shows local opening fire on looter in Buffalo blizzard

A Buffalo looter made off with nothing but his life after a man took up arms to defend his neighborhood.

The ransacker had tried to break into one of the Pine Hill storefronts on Bailey Avenue when the civil soldier chased the would-be thief away, according to shocking video posted on Twitter Monday.

The clips show a group of people, some carrying brooms and sticks, running through the Skys the Limit Hair & Beauty parking lot after the looter.

Canada ‘monitoring’ as other countries implement COVID-19 testing policies for travellers from China

Following a surge of infections, the U.S. announced new COVID-19 testing requirements for all travellers entering from China – but Canada has not said whether it will be imposing a similar policy.

“Travellers continue to be advised to maintain enhanced health precautions and follow public health measures at their ports of entry,” said a spokesperson for the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) in an email to CTVNews.ca Wednesday. “Any other updates will be communicated to travellers through a travel health notice.”

A major increase in auto thefts in 2022 has victims and industry experts calling for action

If you think car theft is bad now wait till Trudeau’s Green-Scam gets rolling.

It took about 30 seconds for thieves to steal Dave Hutchinson’s vehicle right out of his underground parking spot in his downtown Toronto condo.

He asked the concierge to see the surveillance video once he discovered his Range Rover was missing.

The footage showed a white van pulling up to his vehicle, someone getting out and within seconds they were driving it out of the parking lot.

“The fact they did it so easily, they didn’t break glass, they didn’t break into anything … it’s terrible,” he said.

According to the Star “Adults” have “Juveniles” steal luxury vehicles for 10K a pop. Car-jackings make headlines and demand a police response. It is incredible how easy it to steal a car and most like that Range Rover are gone in seconds. I wonder how much resources the TPS has to expend on car theft?

US to require arrivals from China to provide negative Covid test

The US has announced all travellers from China must provide a negative Covid-19 test to enter the country, joining other nations imposing restrictions because of a surge of infections.

The increase in cases across China follows the rollback of the nation’s strict anti-virus controls. Beijing’s “zero Covid” policies had kept the country’s infection rate low but fuelled public frustration and crushed economic growth.

From 5 January, all travellers to the US from China will be required to take a Covid test no more than two days before travel and provide a negative test before boarding their flight. The testing applies to anyone two years and older.

Many Canadians struggle to afford pricey high-speed home internet in urban areas

Ray Noyes has spent most of his life without a home internet connection.

He lives in Vanier, a densely populated neighbourhood close to Ottawa’s downtown core. Before the pandemic, he would bring his old laptop to the local library or go to his mother’s house and use her computer to check his email.

At the time, Noyes was eligible for the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), which provided him with $1,169 a month for basic needs and shelter. He said on this budget purchasing home internet was out of the question.

I don’t begrudge anyone making a profit but when it comes to cell phones and the internet Canadians are gouged thanks to our crony capitalist system.

European Union Anticipates Continued Uptick in Asylum Seekers

Although the number of asylum applications submitted this year has climbed to a level not seen since the European migrant crisis of 2015/16, when 1.3 million people made their way to the Continent, the EU Asylum Authority (EUAA) has predicted a further increase in the number of migrants seeking asylum in the year ahead.

While speaking to the German newspapers of the Funke media group on Monday, December 27th, Nina Gregori, the executive director of the EUAA said: “The geopolitical developments this year and last year had a direct impact on the needs for international protection and led to increased displacement to EU countries.”

“It is quite clear that the increasing number of applications will continue in the foreseeable future,” Gregori suggested, adding that the instability and threats which cause people to flee their homelands are, unfortunately, “not temporary.”

Germany’s shattered illusions

The complacency of the German elites was exposed for all to see this year.

In late February, just days after Russia invaded Ukraine, German chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that we had arrived at a historical turning point (Zeitenwende). It was a much-praised speech at the time. Scholz appeared to be signalling that Germany would have to change its ways. It could no longer depend on Russian gas or believe that peace in Europe would be permanent. It was time for Germany to get real. It needed to build up its energy capabilities and start investing in its military.

Ten months on and the courage and determination expressed in the Zeitenwende speech has all but disappeared.
