Canadian home energy costs to spike by up to 100 per cent on average this winter: analyst

Most Canadians who pay for natural gas or electricity can expect their bills to rise by between 50 and 100 per cent on average this winter, according to one energy analyst.

Some consumers could see their bills rise by as much as 300 per cent while others could see minimal increases, but the overall trend is clear, says EnergyRates.ca founder Joel MacDonald.

Most of what will drive up the cost of home energy this winter is the rising price of natural gas, which generates 8.5 per cent of Canada’s electricity.

Freeland grossly exaggerated Freedom Convoy impacts on economy

Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland grossly inflated estimates of the Freedom Convoy impact on the Canadian economy, internal documents show. Freeland cited figures described in one Department of Transport memo as an “extreme case” that did not reflect actual data.

“The blockade of the Ambassador Bridge has affected about $390 million in trade each day,” Freeland told reporters last February 14. “This bridge supports 30% of all trade by road between Canada and the United States.”

“Everyone,” says the Charter of Rights, has the fundamental freedom “of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication.” Everyone, that is, except Tamara Lich, one of the organizers of the truckers’ Freedom Convoy protest in Ottawa in January and February.

Most egregiously, under her bail conditions Lich must remain publicly silent pending the result of her court hearing in September 2023—including no social media use whatsoever—all for exercising her right to protest in a free country.

French energy giant accused of ‘fuelling Russian fighter jets’ that bombed Ukraine

A French energy giant has been accused of “complicity in war crimes” over allegations it helped fuel Russian fighter jets that bombed Ukraine.

TotalEnergies faces an anti-terror investigation after two associations filed a legal complaint against it.

The complaint comes at a delicate time for the company, which is locked in a battle with hardline unionists who continued to block its petrol refineries in France on Friday in a row over pay, leaving thousands of motorists scrambling for fuel.

Police Cite Ramifications of Liberal Policies in Shooting of Three Philadelphia Officers

Three SWAT officers and one civilian were shot this past Wednesday at approximately 6 a.m. on North 10th Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The policemen were shot by a 19-year-old murder suspect while serving a homicide warrant.

The officers were listed in stable condition at Jefferson University Hospital. The civilian had a gunshot wound to the head and subsequently died.

Yukon Legislature Passes Motion to Oppose Using Police Force for Ottawa’s Gun Confiscation Program

The Yukon Legislative Assembly has adopted a motion to say that local RCMP resources shouldn’t be used for the federal government’s gun buyback program. The governments of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba have taken similar positions in recent weeks.

The motion was brought forward by Yukon Party Justice Critic Brad Cathers and passed with the support of the Yukon Party and the Yukon NDP MLAs. All Yukon Liberal MLAs, who formed a minority government in the territory after the 2021 election, voted against the motion.

Migrants targeted in Canadian immigration scam on Facebook

Scammers posing as Canadian immigration lawyers have targeted Facebook groups with tens of thousands of users, a new report reveals.

The posts, documented in a new report by the Tech Transparency Project (TTP), the research arm of watchdog group the Campaign for Accountability, have been flagged as potentially fraudulent by Latin American and Canadian authorities but continue to proliferate.

Purporting to be authored by Canadian immigration lawyers, the posts claim that Canada is recruiting more than 400,000 people for a jobs program that will grant those accepted an immediate work permit.

The author, 57, saw the tweet and attacked the singer, saying she was ‘enjoying the recent spate of bearded men stepping confidently onto their soapboxes to define what a woman is and throw their support behind rape and death threats’.

But Bragg did not define what a woman was at any point in his initial tweet, and simply supported Norton’s suggestion that people discuss trans issues with the parents of trans children or doctors and psychologists instead of referring to celebrity viewpoints.

After Ms Rowling seemed to suggest both Norton and Bragg were ‘misogynists’ she received a widespread backlash from social media users for the claim, for which she provided no evidence.

Netflix’s new Jeffrey Dahmer movie is revisiting stereotypes of serial killers as white men. The FBI however informs us that, “Contrary to popular belief, serial killers span all racial groups. There are white, African-American, Hispanic, and Asian serial killers. The racial diversification of serial killers generally mirrors that of the overall U.S. population.” We’ve come a long way, baby.
