OTTAWA — The Liberal government’s announcement of new sanctions against the Iranian regime Monday, in response to protests there over government oppression, was met with skepticism by observers concerned about Ottawa’s lack of transparency and “follow-through” with past sanctions.
ONLY a few decades ago, the far right were defined by hating Jews and non-whites and opposing all immigration while trying to convince people that Hitler was a victim of demonisation. In Western countries, people who espouse such views haven’t come anywhere close to power since the end of World War Two. And no, Italy’s newly elected leader Giorgia Meloni isn’t one of them.
However, over the past decade or so, the predominantly left-leaning media and their woke activist allies are constantly warning us of the ever increasing threat from the ‘far right’.
Music icon Kanye West called the Black Lives Matter movement “a scam” on Tuesday, just one day after wearing a “White Lives Matter” shirt to a Paris Fashion Week presentation alongside commentator Candace Owens.
America’s supply chain crisis is far from over. Persistent backlogs at West Coast ports have led shippers to reroute their cargoes to the east. As a result, container ships now sit offshore at ports such as New York, Houston, and Savannah, waiting in queue to offload.
What first triggered the unfamiliar phenomenon of our barren shop shelves was COVID-19 and a series of ill-advised policies implemented to “stop the spread.” Suddenly, there were too few dockworkers, too few warehouse workers, and too few truckers, creating what Lori Fellmer, chair of the ocean committee for the National Industrial Transportation League, called “a horror show.”
This is a recipe for losing the next big war.
Last week, I illuminated how President Joe Biden is forcing “wokeness” on our military and explained its inevitable effect, which is to lower both the lethality and readiness of our forces.
This is worse than the social experimentation of the Clinton and Obama days. Biden’s policies are changing the culture of the military, perhaps irreparably.
The other half of the equation is how we are — and aren’t — planning our military budgets to meet the threats we face from China, Russia, Iran, and other adversary nations.
When I was about eleven years old my favorite Barbie was Midge from the California Dream collection. Barbie’s BFF, she had auburn hair and freckles. Midge came with roller skates and a blue visor and I loved her. My sister had California Dream Barbie and we would pop in the Beach Boys Greatest Hits cassette tape and pretend we were living in California for hours upon hours, day after day. We wore that cassette tape out, screaming the lyrics to “California Dreamin’” on cold winter days in Connecticut. I imagined Midge was me, cruising down the boardwalk with the wind in my hair and the sun on my cheeks. My dreams of being a California girl began in those afternoons lost in fantasyland.
A common line of argument between Russian state propaganda and American conspiracy circles is proliferating these days, namely: the war in Ukraine was allegedly fomented by the Americans to destroy Europe.
For example, the American conspiracy website Revolver News easily refers to the geostrategic considerations of a leading expert on the war in Ukraine, Andrew Korybko. Incidentally, Korybko is also a ‘Moscow-based analyst’ financed by Russia’s autocratic government: a mere detail.
In this thesis, which charges Europe with being the victim of an American plot, everything is false. It is a childish and disempowering falsehood — which makes it attractive to unquestioning minds.
Did you see the news out of Chicago? A group at the prestigious University of Chicago decided to have a discussion on race – because we need another one of those so much – but they cut one race out of the discussion. Guess which one?
If you guessed white people, you guessed correctly.
On college campuses, in progressive organizing spaces, in some professional contexts, and even among friends, Americans are increasingly being told their Zionism is disqualifying. For many Jews, that means an aspect of their own identity makes them persona non grata in spaces where left-wing views are paramount. For non-Jews, maintaining until-recently mainstream, pro-Israel opinions means risking social stigmatization and professional harm. Although this problem has begun to gain some visibility, it’s time Americans understood the extent of the social pressure to self-censor or else face the mob.

I’ll never forget the moment I uncovered Umm Muthanna Al-Britannia’s real name. Back in early 2015, she was a brazen British propagandist and recruiter for the Islamic State. I’d been tracking her for months, almost marvelling at her shamelessness: she had posted pictures of herself brandishing an AK-47 on social media; she had justified the beheading of Western aid-workers; she had celebrated the 2015 Paris attacks; and she had scolded other Muslim women for not covering their faces (and eyes). She was terrifying, tormented and terrible. But who was she really?

Urooj Rahman is an attorney, not a bartender, but she knows her cocktails. She tossed a Molotov cocktail at an NYPD cruiser during the 2020 George Floyd riots in New York City. But now, in asking for a light sentence, she is serving up a different cocktail: vodka with a dash of Islamophobia. And really, it’s the Islamophobia that gives it its flavor.
The author T.K. Kanwar lives the Canadian Dream, and he lives it in peace. As a second-generation Indian Canadian, he’s never admonished for his race, nor excluded from opportunity. On the contrary, he’s free to love and advocate for his people.
So why rock the boat when he could quietly live a life of opportunity and splendor? If anything, Kanwar might bolster his status by preaching the evils of white racism, the oppression of Black and Brown People.

It’s hard to put your finger on exactly when and where it was that democracy’s global eclipse began, but a darkness has been encircling the world throughout the 21st century. While the current insurrection in Iran is cause for some hope, overall, the dictators have been winning.
