Torstar owners ‘deadlocked’ in feud over direction of company including Toronto Star
NordStar Capital Inc. co-owner Paul Rivett is seeking a court order to wind up the company after a breakdown in his relationship with business partner Jordan Bitove, raising uncertainty about the control of Torstar Corp. and the Toronto Star newspaper.
Mr. Rivett detailed the significant rift with his partner in an application filed with the Ontario Superior Court of Justice on September 1, alleging Mr. Bitove thwarted business plans they had agreed to, ignored proper corporate governance, and attempted to sideline him. “There is complete deadlock between Rivett and Bitove,” the application states. “They can no longer work together.”

Green energy subsidies and other government giveaways have been tried before, and failed, but not at this scale. With so much money at stake, you might have expected the administration to choose someone with a strong background in energy technologies or perhaps someone possessing deep experience in the energy business who can spot the good (and bad) uses for all that money.

Ontario trying to delay shutdown of Pickering nuclear station amid electricity ‘supply crunch,’ sources say
The Ontario government will ask the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission for an extension to run the aging Pickering nuclear plant until 2026 to cover a looming shortage of electricity, the Star has learned.
Although Energy Minister Todd Smith said as recently as last month there were no plans to seek an operating extension for past Pickering’s long-planned closure date of 2025, he will detail the application Thursday, sources said.
