Canada must loosen Taliban sanctions amid multiple Afghanistan crises: aid groups

Major humanitarian groups are urging the Trudeau government to loosen its restrictions on working with the Taliban in Afghanistan.

The Canadian Red Cross, Oxfam Canada and Amnesty International are among 18 groups arguing that Ottawa has fallen behind its peers in finding loopholes for humanitarian aid while isolating the Taliban regime.

They say the Canadian sanctions are blocking their response to a humanitarian catastrophe in Afghanistan.

National Police Commissioner Anders Thornberg has described the violence as “an entirely different kind of brutality than we’ve seen before” and his deputy, Mats Löfving, says that 40 criminal clans now operate throughout the country. Spreading fear are “humiliation robberies,” targeting children and youth, in which victims are subjected to degrading treatment by assailants, such as being urinated upon. Just this week, four men were sentenced for robbing, beating and urinating on an 18-year-old, who was also filmed by his tormentors.

Climate change and loss of biodiversity were no different from the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping the globe, he said. “In fact, they pose an even greater existential threat, to the extent that we have to put ourselves on what might be called a war-like footing.”

2 Windsor Police Officers Who Allegedly Donated to Freedom Convoy Face Misconduct Charges

Two officers with the Windsor Police Service (WPS) are facing misconduct charges for allegedly donating money to the Freedom Convoy, a large-scale protest against federal COVID-19 vaccine mandates in Ottawa earlier this year.

The charges against constables Jason Michael Brisco and Brooke Fazekas fall under the Ontario Police Services Act, the WPS said on Sept. 20. A third civilian employee has been suspended without pay for a day, also over allegations of donating to the convoy.

Indigenous population hits 1.8M, growing at twice rate of non-Indigenous Canadians: 2021 census

The number of people identifying as Indigenous in Canada grew almost twice as fast as the non-Indigenous population and now stands at 1.8 million — about five per cent of the population — according to newly released census data.

From 2016 to 2021, the number of people in Canada identifying as Indigenous grew by 9.4 per cent. The non-Indigenous population grew by just 5.3 per cent over the same period.

While that growth rate is high, it’s almost half the growth rate for the population that identified as Indigenous between 2011 and 2016, which was 18.9 per cent.

The appearance of a transgender teacher from Oakville, Ont., who went viral on social media and has since received international attention, is, to be very kind, perplexing in the extreme. Regardless of one’s psychological or political disposition (identity is very political these days), it cannot be consistent with simple notions of appropriateness and professional dignity to take to a classroom of high school students wearing mammoth prosthetic breasts and a tight-fitting shirt.

Woke is the new mass hysteria.

RBC Says Canada May Soon Face Energy Shortages …

Canada’s biggest commercial bank says the country will struggle to meet soaring electricity demand in coming years unless governments make tough decisions.

Energy consumption is expected to surge 50 per cent in the next decade but the country’s ability to meet that demand is constrained by its commitment to a net zero grid by 2035, Royal Bank of Canada said in a report Tuesday. Ontario, the country’s economic engine, could face power shortages as early as 2026, the bank warned.

Alberta’s minister of labour and immigration has taken to social media to criticize Ottawa’s “tyrannical” pandemic travel restrictions and thank “freedom convoys” for their efforts against them.

In a tweet responding to news about the federal government potentially ending COVID-19 border requirements, Kaycee Madu said the measure was “never was about science but about political control and power.”

“Thanks to all those citizens, freedom convoys, who had the courage to mobilize against these tyrannical policies,” read the remark on Madu’s Twitter account on Tuesday.
