The menacing actions of Trump and his acolytes are a reaction to the left-wing ideology wrecking American institutions

You don’t need to leave the country these days to get a sense of what the rest of the world makes of America. Despite the rise of alternative sources of global power, the world’s obsession with the US is greater than ever, and everyone on the planet with access to a phone can share their views of the condition of the once unrivalled superpower.

But it can still be instructive to travel abroad to get a proper sense of what others are seeing and hearing and, after a couple of delightful weeks in old Europe, I can confirm that the rest of the world clearly thinks the United States has gone mad.

Employees Cry, Scream, and Quit Over Google’s Contract With Israeli Government

An employee leading the activism said Tuesday that she does not believe in “the idea of a Jewish ethno-state.”

Google signed a contract last year with Amazon to provide cloud services to the Israeli government. Israel is using the contract in various government agencies for purposes such as education, health care, and transportation.

Many Google employees have argued that the company’s business relationship with the Israeli government is morally reprehensible, claiming that Israel is engaged in war crimes or is oppressing Palestinians.

The FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago feels like peak Russiagate. There’s the synchronized press hysteria, moving from one absurd end-of-America “bombshell” to the next, accompanied by dark intonations regarding secrets about to be revealed and blustering accusations of high treason. Donald Trump was said to be hoarding “nuclear documents,” which he planned to peddle for billions to the Saudis. Who’s buying the map of Fort Knox? Does Trump have access to Colonel Sanders’ secret fried chicken recipe, too?

Should Canada forgive student loans?

Last week, U.S. President Joe Biden announced his administration would be forgiving up to US$20,000 in student loans for low- and middle-income borrowers, reducing the debt load for more than 40 million Americans.

Some student groups, as well as the federal NDP, have called on the federal government to do the same here in Canada, but experts are divided over whether cancelling student debt is the best way to help young Canadians.

Not fair to anyone who has paid it back.

The paradox of life in our universe

It’s one of the great questions that humans have been pondering for virtually all of recorded history and likely even before we came up with the concept of a written language. Are we alone in the universe, or are there other civilizations out there, possibly even species that are vastly technologically more advanced than us? And if that’s possible, have any of them been able to cross the daunting interstellar darkness and visit us? These are all questions that are tackled this week by former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence Christopher Mellon in an article titled “The Paradox of Fermi’s Paradox.”

Back in the 1950s, Enrico Fermi posed a series of questions regarding life in our universe. People have long speculated that there must be countless other civilizations out there, given the staggering number of stars in all of the galaxies we can see. But, Fermi essentially asked, if life is so abundant, “where is everybody?”

Jack Mintz: Squandering our resource wealth

Last week’s visit to Canada by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz did little to help ease his country’s energy crisis. Germany desperately needs Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) now, not hydrogen that won’t be available in smallish quantities until years from now.

The visit also opened more wounds with Alberta, as the prime minister scoffed there is no “business case” for LNG exports to Germany — a comment that surprised many participants at the Canadian Energy Executive Association Forum held in Banff last Thursday. If anyone can judge whether LNG will be profitable or not, it’s an oil and gas industry willing to invest billions of dollars in it. The real reason Canada still does not have LNG exports today is not the “business case” but the “political case”: federal regulations focused on GHG emissions to the exclusion of Canada’s interest in contributing to the world’s energy and security needs.

Tesla driver appears to be asleep as car goes over 100 km/h on QEW

Video has emerged showing a Tesla driver appearing to be asleep behind the wheel while travelling more than 100 km/h on a busy Ontario highway.

Louise Lesser said she was driving on the Queen Elizabeth Highway near St. Catharines around 7 a.m. on Friday when her partner looked over and thought the white Tesla in front of them didn’t have a driver.

Technology is so fabulous.

When the name Peter Beinart appears in print, you know there’s trouble, and when it appears as an op-ed in The New York Times, you know it’s double trouble.

Ever since Abe Rosenthal left the building, the Times has been an embarrassment to journalism.

Rosenthal (1922-2006) was the last of the just over there, and back then, when we communicated, during the 1990s, even then he was concerned about his paper’s anti-Israel drift. He ran the paper…won a Pulitzer…and even he could not stop the leftist anti-Israel takeover of his beloved newspaper.

Canada developing path to permanent residency for undocumented workers

Canada’s undocumented workers could gain a new avenue to permanent residency through a program under development by the federal government to tackle the underground economy.

It is a pivotal turning point for some of the 500,000 undocumented residents estimated to be in Canada. Many work precarious and often exploitative jobs in construction, cleaning, caregiving, food processing and agriculture.

Undocumented residents face a range of vulnerabilities, including poor mental and physical health caused by social isolation and abusive working conditions.

The Trudeau government is fighting inflation on the backs of the poor. Mass immigration ensures depressed wages. The Bank of Canada has recently instructed the corporate class not to increase wages, how convenient.

A Deal Based on Lies: The Iran Nuclear Agreement Will Make War More Likely

As Western governments quake in the face of Russian nuclear threats, they are on the verge of striking a deal that will give Iran that same power over them.

Even after six months of war in Europe, they cannot seem to grasp the parallels between the two. Putin risked invading Ukraine because of Western weakness and appeasement, naively welcoming Russia back into the family of nations after it devoured large parts of Ukraine in 2014, while at the same time filling its war chests with ever more billions of euros from energy exports to Europe.

Over 50 Biden Administration Employees, 12 US Agencies Involved in Social Media Censorship Push: Documents

Over 50 officials in President Joe Biden’s administration across a dozen agencies have been involved with efforts to pressure Big Tech companies to crack down on alleged misinformation, according to documents released on Aug. 31.

Senior officials in the U.S. government, including White House lawyer Dana Remus, deputy assistant to the president Rob Flaherty, and onetime White House senior COVID-19 adviser Andy Slavitt, have been in touch with one or more major social media companies to try to get the companies to tighten rules on allegedly false and misleading information on COVID-19, and take action against users who violate the rules, the documents show.

Germany: Police clash with protesters outside arms factory

Police used pepper spray and batons against protesters in the German city of Kassel in the early hours of Friday morning as anti-war demonstrators attempted to block the entrance to an arms factory.

Officers said the protesters had begun to throw objects at them. At least one person was arrested.

Activists for the Disarm Rheinmetall movement have been calling for protests across the country to try and stop the production and delivery of weapons, including for the war in Ukraine.
