Sanctions sought against FBI over Civil War gold dig videos

The FBI either lied to a federal judge about having video of its secretive 2018 dig for Civil War-era gold, or illegally destroyed the video to prevent a father-son team of treasure hunters from gaining access to it, an attorney for the duo asserted in new legal filings that allege a government cover-up.

The FBI has long insisted its agents recovered nothing of value when they went looking for the fabled gold cache. But Finders Keepers, a treasure-hunting company that led agents to the remote woodland site in Pennsylvania in hopes of getting a finder’s fee, suspect the FBI found tons of gold and made off with it.

The Washington Post’s Only Goal Is to Convict Israel

Long before The Washington Post’s June 12, 2022, report — “How Shireen Abu Akleh Was Killed” — the newspaper had reached its verdict about who was responsible for the Al Jazeera journalist’s death.

Akleh was fatally shot on May 11, while reporting on Israeli counter-terror raids in Jenin. But within hours of her death, Post staffers not only blamed Israel, but they alleged that she was “murdered in cold blood.”

Mighty suspicious that the PA has refused to turn over the bullet.

Bill Gates says crypto and NFTs are ‘100% based on greater fool theory’

Bill Gates is not a fan of cryptocurrencies or non-fungible tokens.

Speaking at a TechCrunch talk on climate change Tuesday, the billionaire Microsoft co-founder described the phenomenon as something that’s “100% based on greater fool theory,” referring to the idea that overvalued assets will go up in price when there are enough investors willing to pay more for them.

Gates joked that “expensive digital images of monkeys” would “improve the world immensely,” referring to the much-hyped Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection.

Not a fan of Gates but he is likely right on this one. To me NFT’s were a sick joke from the word go. Digital currency may yet work out the kinks but for now I have to agree with Gates.

Is It Too Late to Stop the Spread of Autonomous Weapons?

The congressionally appointed National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence recently concluded that “we can expect the large-scale proliferation of AI-enabled capabilities.” The recent Libya conflict seems to validate that conclusion about artificial intelligence (AI), with soldiers loyal to Libyan Gen. Khalifa Haftar employing a Turkish-made Kargu-2 drone that “hunted down and remotely engaged” retreating forces, according to a United Nations report. It’s not clear whether the Kargu-2 employed its autonomous capabilities, but the Turkish government acknowledged it can field that capability. Likewise, Russia has employed the KUB-BLA loitering munition and reportedly the Lancet 3 during its invasion of Ukraine. Again, the details are murky—some analysts are skeptical that the KUB-BLA possesses AI-enabled autonomous capabilities, and the claims of Lancet 3 usage come from Rostec, the Russian state-owned defense conglomerate that includes the Lancet 3 manufacturer, not from independently-verified battlefield images. Adding to the confusion: in each case, autonomous operation is clearly an option, although it may not be exercised. That makes verification quite hard.

Lesbian playwrights such as Carolyn Gage see their plays shelved. Lesbian role models such as Ellen (now Elliot) Page come out as transgender. Even gender-nonconforming girls and women from the past fall victim to the new gender creed. Joan of Arc — the subject of Gage’s cancelled play — has undergone a posthumous transition nearly 600 years after she was burned at the stake.

The alliance between Big Tech and Big Media was sealed with censorship and cash.

In the fall of 2019, Facebook announced that it would be writing selected media outlets some very big checks. The launch of Facebook News was billed as a way to give consumers more access to information, but it was actually an attempt at appeasing big media companies.

Facebook, with its older and more conservative user base, had become the epicenter of election conspiracies from the Clinton campaign and its media allies. While Hillary Clinton and her associates were eager to shift the blame for her defeat by relaunching their existing Russiagate smears with false claims that Russian Facebook ads had tilted the election to Trump, the media’s obsession with Facebook was even more corruptly self-interested.

Californians fleeing the expensive state for Mexico

Mexico’s Pacific Coast has long been a popular vacation spot for Californians who could either drive or catch a low-cost flight to relax on the beach and escape the rat race.

And Tijuana remains a must-have destination to fill up on gasoline and purchase baby formula, prescription drugs, and other overpriced items back home.

Now, the occasional trip is becoming permanent for a good portion of the 360,000 who left the Golden State last year for more affordable living conditions, a Baja California realtor told CNBC.

Probably safer under the Cartels.

Navy fires five officers within six days over ‘loss of confidence’

The US Navy has dismissed five commanding officers in less than one week due to “loss of confidence,” a strikingly short timeframe for such disciplinary action.

On Tuesday, the Navy announced it was relieving Cmdr. Peter Lesaca — of the destroyer USS Preble — of his duties “due to loss of confidence in his ability to command.”

“Navy commanding officers are held to high standards of personal and professional conduct,” the Navy said in a statement. “They are expected to uphold the highest standards of responsibility, reliability and leadership, and the Navy holds them accountable when they fall short of these standards.”

Beverly Bain, a professor at the University of Toronto and a member of the No Pride in Policing Coalition, told a room full of reporters and Toronto police’s top brass Wednesday.

“This has nothing to with the Black community. In fact, the Black community never asked for an apology. Neither did I think that you were apologizing to the Black community. You were apologizing to your rank and file,” Bain said.

I doubt their claim to represent the community. They seem the usual cast of rent-seekers.

New polling suggests Liberal and New Democrat voters think Jean Charest or Patrick Brown would make the best leader of the federal Conservative party.

The data released by the research firm Leger is based on an online survey it did of 1,528 Canadian adults last weekend using computer-assisted web interviewing technology.

It cannot be assigned a margin of error because internet-based polls are not considered random samples.

U.S. continues to receive Russian oil via third parties, report says

Tankers laden with Russian oil are arriving at U.S. ports thanks to a loophole, industry observers say.

A “significant” share of Russian crude oil is being re-exported through refineries in India to the U.S. and Europe, according to the report from Helsinki-based think tank Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air.

Since Russia’s invasion in late February, global oil prices have soared, giving refiners in India and other countries an added incentive to tap oil. Moscow is offering them at steep discounts of $30 to $35 a barrel, compared with Brent crude and other international oil now trading at about $120 per barrel.

Before I watched the videos and interviewed some of their makers, I didn’t expect to like trans influencers. Many of the parents I’ve interviewed regard them as cult leaders or drug dealers. But I didn’t dislike them. Riven with piercings and stamped with tattoos, battling the bouts of depression that strike like a summer storm, furiously and without warning, obsessing endlessly over their changing bodies: If these influencers are relentless evangelists for a dangerous cause, they also need all the love and care they can get.

As a black man who refuses to be a victim, I have a very different definition of who the white supremacists are

What exactly is “white supremacy”? People these days seem to have their own definition for this ever-present phrase, molding it into whatever suits their particular agenda. Since it appears to be fluid, I’d like to present another definition.

White supremacy is a belief system that holds black people as continuous victims in a white-majority society, deeming them incapable without the benevolence of white people or the government and constantly portraying them as impoverished, weak-willed, overly emotional, mentally fragile and without fortitude.
