Amber Heard Defamed Johnny Depp, Jury Says

Amber Heard defamed Johnny Depp when she wrote an op-ed identifying herself as a domestic abuse survivor, a jury found on Wednesday, bringing a close to the alternately disturbing and surreal Virginia trial that pitted the divorced Hollywood couple against each other.

But the jury also found that an ex-attorney for Depp defamed the actress when he described her claims about Depp abusing her as a hoax.

The verdict, reached in about 13 hours, marked the end of a case that dwelled on lurid allegations of repeat violence and damaged careers, and polarized public opinion about both actors. A British judge previously found “overwhelming” evidence Depp physically assaulted Heard repeatedly and left her in fear for her life.

Quebec’s premier is being accused of stoking fears about newcomers after he gave a recent speech warning Quebec risks turning into Louisiana if the province doesn’t have more control over immigration.

Francois Legault told delegates at his party’s convention on the weekend that the survival of the Quebec nation depended on the federal government granting Quebec more power over who can immigrate to the province.

The premier even warned that Quebec risked becoming like the state of Louisiana – formerly under the control of France – where only a fraction of the population still speaks French.

Monkeypox warnings ‘went ignored,’ and now world must brace for more outbreaks: scientists

Ukraine war: US to send longer-range rockets in latest aid package

The US will send Ukraine more advanced rocket systems to help it defend itself, President Biden has announced.

The weapons, long requested by Ukraine, are to help it strike enemy forces more precisely from a longer distance.

Until now, the US had refused the request out of fear the weapons could be used against targets in Russia.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the US was “directly and intentionally adding fuel to the fire” with its weapons deliveries to Ukraine.

Himars: what are the advanced rockets US is sending Ukraine?

Joe Biden has announced the US will send advanced missile systems to Ukraine. The new weapon is the Himars multiple launch rocket system, or MLRS: a mobile unit that can simultaneously launch multiple precision-guided missiles.

Both Ukraine and Russia already operate MLRS, but Himars has superior range and precision.

Star Wars is called out for ‘don’t be racist’ tweet after unveiling Moses Ingram despite film franchise SHRINKING John Boyega on poster to please China

Star Wars was slammed over a woke tweet telling critics of its newest show ‘don’t be racist,’ even though the Disney-owned franchise previously shrunk black star John Boyega’s photo on a movie poster to appease Chinese audiences.

The tweet came in response to a slew of Instagram stories Moses Ingram – who plays Reva Sevander, aka the Third Sister, in the franchise’s new miniseries Obi-Wan Kenobi – posted revealing seemingly racist remarks sent to her by Star Wars fans.

The franchise, rushing to her defense, took to Twitter early Tuesday saying: ‘We are proud to welcome Moses Ingram to the Star Wars family and excited for Reva’s story to unfold. If anyone intends to make her feel in any way unwelcome, we have only one thing to say: we resist.’

MANDEL: What the jury didn’t hear in Jacob Hoggard rape trial

Pervert or terrorist Justin knows them all. Probably traded grope strategies.

According to court documents, the new information against Hoggard was sworn April 13 detailing the same charge — sexual assault causing bodily harm — in relation to a third complainant, this time on June 25, 2016 in Kirkland Lake, Ont. His next court date on that charge is in August.
