Trudeau’s Gun Grab – More US Reaction

Trudeau’s Gun Ban Would Have ‘No Chance’ Under U.S. Constitution: Expert

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s new proposed gun restrictions have raised concerns that similar measures could be pushed in the U.S., but these types of reform would be barred under the U.S. Constitution, according to one expert.

The U.S. gun control debate was again pushed to the forefront last week following the mass shooting at a Texas elementary school that left 19 children and two teachers dead. Trudeau’s proposed measures, which would place a national ban on handgun sales if passed by the Canadian parliament, have drawn strong criticism from U.S. conservatives who worry that similar measures could be introduced in America.

Trudeau is blasted for handgun ban in wake of Texas massacre as critics say most crimes in Canada are committed with illegal weapons smuggled in from USA

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is facing backlash over his calls to implement a ‘national freeze’ on handgun ownership in his country in the wake of the mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

Critics claim his new proposed ban will do nothing to protect citizens as many guns ‘are already illegal’ and the ‘freeze’ doesn’t tackle the ‘root cause’ of the crime problem, which is gun smuggling.

On gun reform, neighboring Canada takes a different tack

The Canadian government’s swift push this week for tough new limits on firearms is adding fuel to the fierce debate over gun reform south of the border in the United States, where last week’s shooting massacre at a Texas elementary school has sparked Congress’s latest effort to curb endemic gun violence — and triggered new questions about why U.S. policymakers have been so ineffective at doing so.

“Dystopian future”: Republicans cry “communism” after Canada cracks down on guns after mass shooting

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday announced a new proposal cracking down on “military-style assault weapons” and handgun sales, triggering alarm among Republicans in the U.S. who have resisted any gun restrictions in the wake of deadly mass shootings.

Trudeau announced a mandatory buyback program targeting assault weapons and new regulations that will ban sales and imports of handguns. The legislation is expected to pass.

‘The Killings Didn’t Stop.’ In Mali, a Massacre With a Russian Footprint.

Civilian deaths have spiked in Mali since Russian mercenaries of the Wagner Group began operating alongside the military. In late March, hundreds were executed in the village of Moura.

BAMAKO, Mali — On the last Sunday in March before Ramadan, thousands of merchants and villagers filled the market of Moura, in central Mali, trading cattle in a vast pen and stocking up on spices and vegetables in the town’s sandy alleys.

Suddenly, five low-flying helicopters thrummed overhead, some firing weapons and drawing gunfire in return. Villagers ran for their lives. But there was nowhere to escape: The helicopters were dropping soldiers on the town’s outskirts to block all the exits.

Depp-Heard trial marks end of the #MeToo era

It is often easy to see where social movements begin, though slightly harder to discern where they end. So it is with MeToo, a movement which may be sputtering to an end in a Virginia courtroom, whatever verdict is reached.

The MeToo movement began in 2017 with the overdue revelations about Harvey Weinstein. From there it spilt across the entertainment industry, with campaigners trying to roll it out across society as a whole. A certain type of predatory male was believed to be overdue for a comeuppance. Though in general, if you are fighting for the rights of women then Hollywood, the place which invented the term “casting couch”, may prove an imperfect field of battle.

Was Canada’s orgy of self-recrimination over…nothing?

Last year, Canada began an orgy of self-recrimination when researchers claimed to have found a mass grave at a residential school in British Columbia with the remains of more than 200 indigenous children. The problem is that the ground-penetrating radar used to make this “find” yielded highly suspect results, and not a single grave has been confirmed through an archaeological dig. Now a group of dissident scholars is calling foul on this entire narrative.

Dear Friends, Sorry to Announce a Genocide

It’s really true: they know they are killing the babies.

I’ve been silent for some weeks. Forgive me.

The truth is: I’ve been rendered almost speechless — or the literary equivalent of that — because recently I’ve had the unenviable task of trying to announce to the world that indeed, a genocide — or what I’ve called, clumsily but urgently, a “baby die-off” — is underway.

Germany’s dangerous dependency on China

It is now extremely difficult for Olaf Scholz to pursue an independent foreign policy

The war in Ukraine has asked a fundamental question of Germany: how far does an aggressor need to go before Berlin rethinks its economic ties to the regime? The answer may be uncomfortable in relation to Russia. But Germany’s reliance on China is even more worrying.

Amidst inflation, war and domestic politics, the Xinjiang Police Files are only the latest cache of evidence about human rights violations in China. Yet, according to one recent survey, 94% of German companies want to maintain their presence in China; 71% want to even increase investment. Volkswagen Group China alone employs 90,000 people including in a factory in Ürümqi, the capital of Xinjiang province.

Our “Elites” are moral monsters.

Robb Elementary and the cowardice of the elites

Why did it take cops more than an hour to storm the classroom and kill the gunman?

Everything about the Robb Elementary school massacre is grim. Nineteen children and two teachers shot dead. The husband of one of the teachers dying from a heart attack two days later. Then there are the bone-chilling stories of how the kids who were targeted in this barbaric assault, mostly aged 10 and 11, tried to avoid being killed. One reportedly smeared herself with some of her friend’s blood and then played dead. This was a truly hellish event.

Incredibly, there is another layer to this terrible act – the alarming failures of the authorities. On top of the moral vacuum in which the shooter was operating, there was the bureaucratic disarray of those charged with protecting citizens from such wicked individuals. Children were stuck in the classroom with the killer, with the mass murderer of their friends, for more than an hour before police entered and shot the gunman dead. This is one of the most extraordinary facts from that dreadful day in Uvalde. It is difficult to make sense of it.

Google search results elevate China’s narratives on COVID origins, human rights record: Study

Google search engines’ results are boosting China’s preferred narratives about COVID-19’s origins and human rights abuses, according to a new study from the Brookings Institution and the Alliance for Securing Democracy.

The study found Google News and YouTube were far more likely to spread Chinese state-run media than Google’s main search engine in response to queries about COVID-19 and Xinjiang, a northwestern province in China and the location of alleged human rights abuses against Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities.

Harry and Meghan’s popularity sinks to all-time low… just days before couple fly in from LA for the Queen’s Jubilee

Harry and Meghan’s popularity has sunk to an all-time low, according to a new poll – just days before the couple are due to fly in from California for the Queen’s Jubilee.

The research, carried out by YouGov on 1,692 adults earlier this month, asked whether they held a positive or negative opinion of the Duke and Duchess.

The results, published today, showed Harry’s favourability score had dropped to -26, which means just 32 per cent of people polled see him in a positive light, compared to 58 per cent who think of him negatively.

The Vacuousness of the ‘Pragmatic Conservative’ Position

With a vote looming, and widespread disgust at polarization and ideology, perhaps we can all get behind the major political figure who said, “I am unique in that I’m neither left nor right, but I’m also not a mushy moderate. I’ve always stood for something.” Provided we can figure out what that thing was. Or in which election. Or who he was.

Was it Doug Ford, whose party is poised for re-election in Ontario for being neither left, right nor… um… can’t remember? Or someone the federal Tories will soon choose to lead them to defeat whenever Jagmeet Singh realizes blindly supporting a party he openly despises is fatuous?

Perhaps Jean Charest, who wants to reform stuff, not tear it down. Or Scott Aitchison, who would do whatever nicely. Not Leslyn Lewis, whose firm beliefs too often involve the WEF. Or Roman Baber, who everyone forgets. As for Patrick Brown, well, let’s ask him.

Justin Trudeau – best handgun salesman in Canada

He’ll also be the best Handgun Black Market creator ever. I predict over time most will not consider resorting to the black market a crime, the inevitable result of criminalizing citizens.
