McDonald’s to exit Russia after more than three decades … maybe Arby’s will step up!

May 16 (Reuters) – McDonald’s Corp (MCD.N) said on Monday it would sell all its restaurants in Russia after more than 30 years, making it one of the biggest global brands to exit since the country’s invasion of Ukraine.

The company expects to record a non-cash charge of $1.2 billion to $1.4 billion following the sale. Last year it generated about 9%, or $2 billion, of its revenue from Russia and Ukraine.

Arby’s manager caught urinating in milkshake mix

An Arby’s manager allegedly urinated in the milkshake mix at the fast-food eatery for his own “sexual gratification” on at least two occasions, cops said.

Stephen Sharp, who was being investigated for child pornography, admitted to police that he enjoyed relieving himself in the restaurant’s milkshake mix while working as a night manager at a Vancouver, Washington location, according to police.

Moscow city government to take over Renault’s factory to revive Soviet-era car

‘Moskvitch’: the triumph and sad end of a famous Moscow car plant

The Moscow city government will take over a factory belonging to the French carmaker Renault and use it to revive the Soviet-era Moskvitch in Russia’s first major nationalisation of a foreign company during its war in Ukraine.

The development, which Russians who remember the Moskvitch as a clunker ridiculed, is part of a wave of western companies such as McDonald’s and Siemens leaving the Russian market as the war in Ukraine nears its fourth month.

Mop & Pail scribbler upset Conservative candidates don’t share his genteel tastes in TV fare

The cultural ignorance of the Conservative candidates is a revealing insult

You can’t make it up, although one suspects some of the people involved did make it up. The people in question are the ones who want to lead the Conservative Party of Canada. You’d think they’d want to be accurate and you’d think they’d be superpositive about good Canadian-made productions in storytelling and themes. Especially supersuccessful Canadian TV in the international market.

Not so. In that eccentrically organized but revealing Conservative leadership candidates TV debate the other night, the candidates were asked about their personal taste in books, music and the last binge-watch TV they enjoyed. Not hard questions but good, get-to-know-you questions.

The list of shows they mentioned amounts to a telltale revelation. These people seem to be completely ignorant of Canadian-made TV that’s renowned, award-winning and made in their own backyards. It was like dirty laundry being aired; it was an excursion into the mind-boggling.

The snobbery nears self-parody. Roman Baber is called out for stating he learned to speak English from Al Bundy in ‘Married with children’ and you can practically see the author hyperventilating on his fainting couch. Hell that makes me like Baber even more, I thought he came across as a genuine human being during the last debate. I’m probably voting PPC again given the CPC’s leftward drift but this biased crap outdoes the CBC.

CanCon is typically humourless PC garbage that force feeds the lived experience of transvestite migrant farm labourers or other such drivel. That’s because all arts funding eventually becomes toxic lesbians funding other toxic lesbians with your tax dollars. It’s a grift and people instinctively know to stay away. (Go incognito)

Russia’s invasion not going to plan, Nato says

Nato’s secretary general says Russia’s war in Ukraine is not going to plan and that its attempt to capture the eastern Donbas region has “stalled”.

Jens Stoltenberg also said Ukraine could win the conflict.

Britain’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) estimates Russia has lost about a third of its ground combat force since the war began in February.

The Russian invasion has been hampered by stiff Ukrainian resistance and logistical issues.

Only Internet fascism can save democracy

Free speech on the internet endangers democracy, Barack Obama told Stanford University.

The widely hailed speech at Big Tech’s favorite university claimed that autocrats are “subverting democracy” and that democracies have “grown dangerously complacent”. In the slow parade of teleprompter clichés he even warned that “too often we’ve taken freedom for granted.”

To Obama, the threat to democracy doesn’t come from government power, but the lack of it.

A Speech for the Ages Aptly Describes the Corruption of the Western Elites

On April 20, 1653, Oliver Cromwell came to the English parliament and gave a brief speech to his country’s assembled leaders. In that speech, he condemned their self-seeking, greed, corruption, trickery, thievery, and venality. He looked them in the eyes and told them the truth about how they had cynically sold out the country and the people whose interests and well-being they were tasked with protecting.

It is striking how accurately Cromwell’s words apply to today’s Western elites. Selfish, egotistical, and rapacious, all they care about is how to enrich themselves at the expense of common people whom they shamelessly manipulate and fleece in their insatiable quest for ever more wealth and power.

I Am a Woman and You Do Not Speak for Me

A former “unwanted fetus” on abortionists’ hypocrisy, bigotry, and misogyny.

This essay is not an argument for or against legal abortion. I think, for reasons I won’t detail here, that abortion should be legal. Even if Roe is overturned, abortion will be legal in many American states in the east, west, Midwest, north, and south. These are heavily populated states: California, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Team Pro-Abortion is fomenting coat-hanger hysteria for Machiavellian reasons. “Democrats, looking to hold on to their slim control of Congress, are hoping that abortion will galvanize their voters in an otherwise tough year for the party,” reports the New York Times.

This essay does not address abortion in the case of rape, incest, maternal or fetal health.

Ukraine Is in Worse Shape than You Think

… Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense is not releasing combat casualty numbers to maintain morale, but experts believe it has lost at least 25,000 troops — up to 11,000 deaths and 18,000 wounded —since the February 24 invasion. Over two and a half months into the war, Ukraine’s losses are at least 10% of their now undoubtedly exhausted army of under 250,000. This is, however, many, many fewer than Russia’s casualties, believed to be over 35,000, and buttressed by an astonishing loss of weapons and equipment, such as tanks and warships.

AP Is Aghast That the GOP Would Use Biden’s Failures as a Political Weapon. Aghast!

The Associated Press is well known — and rightfully so — for writing long, detailed articles on “what it all means.” They’re called “thumbsuckers” in the news business, and the AP has perfected them.

A thumbsucker article presupposes that the reader is an ignorant rube and needs to be guided from Point A to Point B of a topic in order to have it explained to them. The problem for the reader is that the AP reporter writing the story — or most other mainstream reporters writing the story — almost always allows his or her own bias to permeate the story, making a “what it all means” story into a “what it should mean to you, you ignorant wretch.”

‘Let Someone Whack You’: Russian Troops Are Now Deliberately Wounding Themselves to Get Out of Putin’s War

Nearly 90 days into Vladimir Putin’s “special military operation” in Ukraine, Russian troops have apparently become so demoralized and desperate to quit they’ve begun deliberately injuring themselves.

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate on Saturday released audio of what it said was an intercepted call revealing the batshit new trend.

FUREY: Canada still needs inquiries, commissions, into our COVID response

It’s nice to not have to think about COVID-19 all the time these days. People don’t really talk about it much anymore.

The anticipated hostility between the masked and unmasked never materialized. It was all a social media creation. People have been easygoing and respectful of each other’s choices. As for the division of society into places that do and don’t require voluntary vaccine passports, that never really happened either.

Joe Rogan on classroom groomers, ‘there’s a lot of f**kin’ crazy people that wind up being teachers’

Superstar podcaster Joe Rogan has demonstrated a unique gift for rattling the cages of the “woke” left and he has now gone after one of their most sacred of cows, the groomers who are preying on young children in classrooms under the cover of being teachers.

Having survived a well-organized effort to have him fired by Spotify over his views on COVID restrictions and mandatory vaccines that ran counter to the official policies of the Biden White House along with smears that he was a racist, Rogan has emerged unscathed and continues to speak out during his trademark extended interviews with a diverse collection of guests.
