In jaw-dropping court documents filed on Friday morning, Baldwin says she’s the one that asked the gun be pointed at her; that the production was a smooth, well-oiled machine; that her widower, Matthew, has inexplicably gone from amenable to vengeful — and oh, how confusing and upsetting this is to Baldwin; and that hey, no matter what, Baldwin’s contract indemnifies him for any damages.

Trudeau-selected senator introduces bill to lower voting age from 18 to 16

The Canadian Senate is considering a bill that seeks to lower the voting age from 18 to 16.

Senator Marilou McPhedran, who was appointed to the Senate in 2016 on the recommendation of Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, has introduced Bill S-201. The bill is currently in its second of three readings in the senate.

The move to lower the voting age has been pushed with varying degrees of effort by the political left in in both Canada and abroad in recent years.

Conservative leadership candidate Jean Charest says claims he’s a Liberal are ‘ludicrous’

Federal Conservative leadership candidate Jean Charest is pushing back on claims made by his rival Pierre Poilievre that he is a Liberal, calling the allegation “ludicrous.”

“When (Poilievre) says I’m a Liberal, is there anyone in the country that doesn’t already know that I went to Quebec politics to fight the separatists’ cause in a coalition party that was called the Liberal Party, as is this case in British Columbia,” said Charest, in an interview airing Sunday morning on CTV’s Question Period with Evan Solomon.

Poilievre and his surrogates have been attempting to paint Charest as a Liberal, due to Charest serving as the Quebec premier from 2003 until 2012 as a member of the Quebec Liberal Party.

Lots of media push for Charest. That should be a Liberal red flag.

Ontario reports 20 more COVID-19 deaths, 722 people in hospital

Ontario reported 20 net new COVID-19 deaths on Saturday along with 722 people hospitalized with the virus.

The Ministry of Health says 16 of the deaths reported today occurred in the last month and four deaths occurred more than one month ago.

On Friday, the ministry began a new method of reporting COVID-19 deaths by providing the “fatality type” including whether COVID was the underlying cause of death, contributed to the death, or if the cause of death is unknown or missing from provincial data.

‘They aren’t medical experts:’ Premier Ford warns boards not to maintain mask mandate in schools

Premier Doug Ford is discouraging school boards from seeking extensions to the lifting of the mask mandate later this month, telling reporters that trustees “aren’t medical experts” and should simply follow the advice of Ontario’s top health official.

Trustees with both the Toronto District School Board and the Toronto Catholic District School Board have formally asked that the scheduled lifting of the mandate in schools on March 21 be put on hold for an indeterminate period of time amid concerns about the potential spread of COVID-19 as students return from March Break.

Russia strikes near Ukraine’s capital; mosque reported hit

LVIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russian forces pounding the port city of Mariupol shelled a mosque sheltering more than 80 people, including children, the Ukrainian government said Saturday as fighting also raged on the outskirts of the capital, Kyiv.

There was no immediate word of casualties from the shelling of the elegant, city-center mosque. Mariupol has suffered some of the greatest misery from Russia’s war in Ukraine, with unceasing barrages thwarting repeated attempts to bring in food and water, evacuate trapped civilians and to bury all of the dead.

“The Least Woke City in America”

Miami’s increasingly conservative political culture reflects the influence of immigrants fleeing socialist dystopias.

They’re still talking about the caravans: the miles-long lines of cars, their passengers waving American flags, Cuban flags, and Donald Trump banners, that painted streaks of red, white, and blue down Calle Ocho and around Little Havana, bringing much of Miami to a halt for hours at a time ahead of the 2020 election. On a recent trip to the city, those I spoke with—Republican operatives and supporters, as well as more impartial observers of Miami’s political scene—described these demonstrations vividly. The multinational, multilingual expressions of support for a Republican presidential candidate were unmistakably Miami. They displayed a flavor of GOP enthusiasm that couldn’t happen anywhere else, at least not on this scale. The demonstrators took cues from the city’s proud anti-Communist past. Some of the organizers of the events—officially known as the “Anti- Communist and Anti-Socialist Caravans for Freedom and Democracy”—included groups established to fight the Cuban dictatorship. The parades were a rejoinder to pollsters who warned not to read too much into enthusiastic displays of support for a given candidate. Miami was the site of major political change in 2020, and if you watched the car parades, you saw the indicators earlier than most.

War is hardly a game. Nevertheless, in trying to discern the true winner of a conflict, we should always look to the edge of the board.

If a power is present but not directly involved, then it is well-placed to benefit. Having not paid the price of war — or at least not the heaviest price — it has a head start when it comes to winning the peace.

After Ukraine, Could Central Asia Be Next?

When Ukraine appeared to be on the verge of exiting Russia’s orbit in late 2013, it took an almighty effort from the Kremlin to drag the then Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych back from the precipice. Yanukovych was gone within three months, fleeing into exile in Russia as the Euromaidan demonstrations consumed Ukrainian political life. These events sowed a seed in Russian president Vladimir Putin’s mind about the need to act, which found fertile soil in thinking we can trace back to his fear of the color revolutions and his 2007 speech at the Munich Security Conference. The tragic events we are witnessing now, as division after division of Russian troops pile into Eastern Europe, are the direct result of that seed.

If you blinked you might have missed the momentous occasion of the release of the second part of the UN IPCC’s sixth assessment report of how we’re all going to die unless we all board jets and attend global warming conferences. Or give lots of money to those officials who do it for us.

Since no one reads these things anyway, by the time the fourteenth chapter of the second part of the sixth assessment rolled around, everyone was drunk and decided to take shots at conservatives.

Amnesty International: Hell Yes, We Want to Destroy the Jewish State

Amnesty International’s fixation on Israel veered into antisemitism with the publication of a “report” accusing the liberal democracy of employing “apartheid.” This ludicrous accusation — Arab Israelis, not without their own troubles, are perhaps the freest Arabs in the Middle East — is meant to associate the Jewish state with the defunct racist South African regime in mind of Westerners to help spark an effort to isolate and economically destroy it.

You may recall the federal government’s invocation of the Emergencies Act. About a year and a half ago it was, in news-time. Editorial reaction around the world, including in outlets international investors read, was generally negative.

The Economist was especially disapproving: “The truckers have every right to express their disagreement. A wise government would listen to them and respond politely, taking their complaints seriously and patiently explaining why COVID restrictions, though onerous, are necessary for the time being … The police already have ample powers to quell disorder. Yet on February 14th Mr. Trudeau invoked emergency powers under a 34-year-old law that had never been used before. It would allow the government to declare protests illegal and freeze the bank accounts of protesters without a court order.”

Black Middle School Kids Who Jumped White Kids Charged With Hate Crimes

Five black children who attend Lyons Creek Middle School in Broward County, Fla., are being charged with hate crimes after assaulting several white students.

The incident happened Wednesday morning at the Coconut Creek Recreation Center, just a short distance from Lyons Creek Middle School. At least one of the victims was targeted because of his race, according to police.

No doubt traumatized by the Jussie Smollet saga!

Russia makes claims of US-backed biological weapon plot at UN

Russia has accused Ukraine and the US at the UN security council of a plot to use migratory birds and bats to spread pathogens, raising alarm among other council members that the accusations could be intended to provide cover for future Russian use of biological weapons.

The Russian permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, delivered a lengthy account of the alleged biological weapons plot, and said the birds, bats and insects supposedly intended to spread disease would cross Ukraine’s western border.
